The differences between Vy SS and Vy SS II

Hey, i was curious as to what the differences between the first series and second series VY SS's are.

Also i recently bought a 03 VY SS sedan, and the ss symbol on the rear doors is higher than the rest of the ss's i've seen. Would the previous owner have just moved them, or is there more to it than that??

The badges should be in the same spots.
Series 2 would have a Series 2 badge, and chrome badges as opposed to satin chrome (looks like brushed alloy).

series 1 has 235kw compaired to series 2 245kw.
I dont think there would be many cars with the badges in exactly the same spot. I seen heaps on the rear that angle up, others angle down and others are straight.

For what it's worth, I think Hothouse green was dropped after series 1, and series 2 had a different diff ratio as well. Also the obvious 235 --> 245 kW increase. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though...

If you have cloth interior the Series 1 had a triangular pattern to it, the Series 2 has squares..
Series has a S2 badge under the SS one on the rear..
The badge on the grill is silver on the S1 and chrome on the S2...
For the S2 the front lower bar is body colour and the upper bar is blacked out, also has a strut brace..

Series II has different tail lights also. And the letters light up on the steering controls...

VY2 - VZ has the cats closer to the headers than on VT-VY1.
I think the VY2 also has a revised Sump compared to VT-VY1.

one difference i know of between the VY SS and the VY SS II is the steering wheel.
on the VY models the steering wheel rim is thin and just all rounded while the Series II model got a fatter stitched steering rim and with thumb rest too.

Series 2 had satin finish gear shifter (manual as I had one of each model) and handbrake.

I Do have red squares on my cloth seats though.

So I dunno, maybe i've a got a Vy 1.5 ss haha...

Unless the previous owner just made several changes.

Have you got all the other bits though? Like the steering wheel/strut brace etc (above mentioned)
Maybe the last owner got a new bumper and didnt spray in the front cross pieces. My ute hasnt got the rear SeriesII badge or SS badge....anymore.

I think most of these have prob been mentioned, but here goes..


*satin chrome badges on SI, chrome on SII

*strut brace on SII

*different shape upper seat bolsters on SII (SI were carryover VX)

*SII got 245kw, although this would be impossible to spot.

*color coded lower front bar (black on SI)

I have noticed SS badges at wierd and wonderful angles on some cars too, and wondered why. Do you know the history of your car? I only ask since in most states, police cars have deleted rear door badges to accomodate the reflective markings on the sides. I guess most would be replaced after auction, and this might account for non standard fitment??

Anyway, nice car. Iv always like the tough angular look of the VY SS.

SII is also 50odd kgs heavier so the 10kws that you get extra is lost by the weight :(
they are both nice cars though.

Series one has Satin silver badges, Series II has the chrome.

Series one has the black lower front lip Series II has the colour coded.

Series one has the spare 18' rim with potenza tyre, Series II didn't.

Series one has the black topped 6 speed shifter and black buttoned handbrake with round steering wheel with holes top n bottom for better breating/grip series two had the silver with leather.

Series on has the triangular style pattern on the velour, series II has a different pattern again..

Series one doesn't have the climate control, where as the Series II does i think.. unless asked for in options.?..

Series one had claimed 235rwhp/fwkw Series II had 245rwhp/fwkw's.

umm.. yeah lol..

and few other things regarding paint colours and so on :).. mines an '03 Series I but has full chrome series two badging on her.. roughly $120 to change over.
