Hi All :)
Just a quick and probably stupid question. Was giving the old girl a bit of a sting off the lights, nothing crazy, and the oil light came on. This has happened a few times, but strictly only under WOT from a stand still. Oil levels are fine etc, is there a reason for this? Is it something simple like the force bringing all the oil to one section of the engine, or am i alone here with this oil light goin troppo at wot?

Check the oil level again...When did you last put oil in it? Give it a little drink,250ml to 500ml or so.

Hi , has the oil been changed regulary all its life. If not the pickup could be blocked. You need to put a master gauge on to check the pressure. By the sounds off when the light comes on you should do this asap.

My 2 VX's have both done this and both times it was a little low on oil. Boot it from the lights, especially after a long trip when the oil is very thin and beep, beep, beep.

How much power have you got? I know when I was unopened and gave it WOT going up a steep hill I could get the oil light come on. When I popped the cam in I could get the oil light come on on a slight incline at WOT. When the heads got done I upgraded the oil pump and she hasnt come on since. Depending how much go you have the oil maybe pooling in the sump under hard acceleration.

Happens to me all the time at WOT. I just assume it's pulling the oil away from the sensor. I check the oil and it's fine so I don't worry about it.
Could be it's a bit thin? Just a thought...

Oil light coming on is the reason I and alot of other blokes I know run an extra 500ml of oil.

Please dont take me as a smart arse, but the oil pressure sensor is right at the top of the engine and it works off pressure as the name says. Not sure on the stats but it might come on if the pressure drops below say 5 psi, Normal operating pressure could be up around 60 odd psi. The sensor just doesnt sit in the oil. Depending on your bearing clearances, pressuming they are standard your engine may only last a few seconds at full noise if your light comes on for the real reason (no oil pressure).
When I get a LS powered vehicle (one day) the first mod i will be doing is fitting a quality aftermarket oil pressure gauge.

Yep, same here, always put in 6litres come oil change, otherwise under hard excelleration check engine light would come on. Oil pressure was dropping to low.

thanks for the help guys, well overnight the dipstick was just over 3/4 full when looked at this morning, so i guess they are sensitive to a slight drop in oil volume...will top up a little more now, thanks :)

Have you had anymore drama's with the oil check light after topping up the oil?
I've just had a mafless done on my VX and the oil lights come on and beeped once under WOT and just this morning it came on for about 2 seconds after the car had started then went off but i was parked facing up a slight incline.
I think i'll do an oil change and give her 6ltrs on the weekend and see if it corrects it.

Hey mate,
Might sound silly but have you had the high oil pressure switch tested?
Mine went on my old vu ss ute and the symptoms were the same as yours. I checked the oil thousands of times and eventually went to holden who diagnostic checked and found that. Replaced for 150 if i remember right and never happened again.
Worth a check.
Cheers,
Andy.
