Well First I'll tell you what car it is, for those of you playing at home..
a 2004 VYSS II M6..
Problem is as I thought to be a flat battery, might not be..
When I try and start my car ANY time of the day, any temprature it has trouble starting, all the lights dim down and it only just cranks over.. then all is good.. But it only does that when the head lights are on..
turn them off and the car starts like it was new..
Battery is fine.. can do 2x movies at the drive-in without needing to start and charge inbetween movies.. seems like it looses current somewhere ONLY when the lights are on when I try and start it..
and this is only recent.. maybe the last 4 weeks?
Any Thoughts?
Cheers..

check your earth lead
Worth a look.. but if there was something wrong with me earth lead would it not give me problems starting ALL the time.. instead of only when my lights were on?

I might be wrong, but I was under the assumption your battery is what starts the car, until the motor is running, to drive the belt, which drives the alternator, which powers everything..
Any more suggestions?

Just because the battery holds it's charge under a very light load (e.g. drive in) doesn't mean it's ok for a large load like a starter motor. I'm willing to bet the battery is low on electrolyte or has popped a cell.

That would be my call as well. Dud cell in the battery - or poor battery/earth connections.

Would say dead cell too. Try another battery and see if it has the same effect

in order
Take it to an auto sparky or good work shop, test the battery voltage, should be around 12 volts with nothing turned on. if it's below remove the batt lead and recheck, if it comes up, with bat lead disconnected conduct a load test (bat mut be fully charged), this will identify any other probs with the battery. Just remember batteries have a life span to a certain extent and fail all the time.
If the battery is ok then check your charge voltage (check battery first as if it is us this can alter your charge voltage giving you a false reading)
If it found not to be the battery or alternator you need to remove the starter and have it checked for current draw, failing starter can draw a hell of a lot of current but have poor performance.
Good luck
in my experience this is nearly always the battery, have you checked the water levels lately? if the water is ok youre better off just replacing it, they arent that expensive and even if it isnt rooted its good for peace of mind.

Hey all.. just wanted to say thank you for the input .. i don't buy anything or like to change anything without relevant info.. after so many people being sure it was the battery, I changed it..
got a super hi-performance century (68VT) ...starts like a new car now..
Thanks to all for their input
