Gday,
Well I have finally got the gears ticking, and I am about to start looking for an Adventra for some dusty track, general shopping trolley duties to replace my 1988 Diesel ute...
Where do I start!?! I want something reasonably priced, and preference for a 6.
So the question is, where do I hunt down these things, as they seem to be getting popular on the second hand market.

There's about 450 to look at for a start. Do you want your bum wiped for you as well :jester:

Good choice but why get a 6 when a V8 with a good tune will probably get you better economy?
Go the V8 My wife drive's our LX8 daily with usual bolt on's & with mafless tune & APS vapour injection LPG & love's it great car & you can get them pretty cheaply now to

Yeah, I agree that they are a great car. After my recent loan Cross8 experience I would love to own one.
I also think you should look at an 8, the LX8 is the pick, plenty on carsales.com.

Hey idiot, the circus is recruiting, but with your brain I am sure their are so many crimes you should be solving rather than wasting your time on a forum. I have checked the usual places, but their are some pretty well connected people on here that I thought I would utilise.
The reason I was thinking 6 was simply for economy, I have a 5.7 sitting in the shed, and the reason I like the adventra is simple... SPACE... I lug around a lot of band gear, and either the Monaro goes, or the ute, and I like belting through the bush! (I like heavy 4WD but somethings gotta give)
True the 8's can be had cheaply, and the thought of gas had crossed my mind.

Even a few second hand avalanche wagons being picked up at good prices at the moment. some of the second hand addys are asking more than a ava with less kms. you wont have any hassles bashing them on dirt roads loaded up, i have done plenty in the ava & it hasnt missed a beat. just a few bushes here & there to replace every now & then. ive just been for my mid tyre wear, wheel alignment check & wheel balance at heasmans. wheel alignment hasnt moved & tyres were in need of a balance as they are 60% worn, now all is good. good luck with the hunt. had a friend who just bought a second hand ava & put gas on & is stoked, costs him 8$/100km.

Thanks avalanche.... great info, exactly the sort of stuff I was looking for. It seems they have found a niche in the second hand market.
Really I have the Monaro for go fast, but travelling with the dog, and doing it in comfort are becoming damn attractive!

you could ask vx-355 how his goes with the dogs. we often have both german shepards in the back of ours. Nemo ( a member on here ) had his for sale for $29000.
I was a bit worried how the 18inch wheels would go on dirt roads, apart from a fair few stone chips i havnt had any issues, no flats either. i tend to find that driving faster on rough roads smooths the bumps out & allows the suspension to actually work a bit. my trailer gets hammered by stone chips. the ava has a lot of clear protection strips that are in all the places that get hammered on the dirt. Another thing to look out for on either the ava or the addys is the self levelling suspension. this is a must if you are towing. it has worked flawlessly on mine. i was told holden rear ends are crap for towing. well with the self levelling rear susp , it has been unreal. my front & rear tyres wear almost identical. some of the lower spec addys dont have the levelling rear susp, so for towing you would have to look at some polyairs for heavy towing loads. otherwise you will look like every terri i see towing something ( arse dragging on the tar). i will try & get some more feedback on the gas injection system that my friend has put on his ava. we tend to only pass on the freeway latley.:headbang: also if you are wondering, fuel ecconomy 13-15.5l/100 round town 10.5-12.5l/100 as soon as i hit open road. 15.5-19.5l/100 towing depending on load, speed & wind. the 19.5 was on the long weekend towing in the pissing rain & 60km/hr head wind on the way to braidwood, on the way back the overall average was back down to 16.2l/100 for the whole day ( tail wind).

The Adventra has good 4WD capabilities. There a segment on the Car Show on the link below comparing the RAV and Landcruiser 4WD capabilities. There is one part where they both climb a step hill and the RAV fails. I did the exact same track on a Holden test day in the Adventra, it easily made it up the hill.

If you tune the V8 you'll be getting similar mileage, and there is a lean burn program the tuner can activate which knocks down highway mileage even more. They're too heavy for a 6... I've had a few 8's and you wont regret it.. but the 6 you might?
