Hi guys and girls. i'm a newbie here.
I recently graduated from uni and have found a job, and now that my bro got his P's, we're constantly arguing on who to take the car out. Therefore i'm thinking about buying my own set of wheels. I'm seriously considering buying the SV6, although I have considered the SS, i found that fuel consumption is slightly higher and the higher insurance costs means more strain on my finances.
The other day I rocked up at Doncaster Holden when a young bloke approached me as I sat in the blue SV6 they have there and we started talking. He seems to know a bit, but I felt that he's trying to shoot me in the foot when i asked him "so how much is one of these things?".
"$45875 on road", the young car salesman said.
My jaws literally dropped.
"I thought the RRP is $40,900 for an auto."
the salesman then explained government stamp duty, delivery fee etc etc.
I looked away and asked about the SS. he quoted me $42k for a ex-demo SS.
So i went home that day and did the calc's myself, the driveaway for the SV6 shouldnt be more than 43k.
I dont think i'll be going back to Doncaster Holden anytime soon. :vpo::vpo:

Mate it always really depends stamp duty is an extra couple of thousand on top of the car. You can get a basis for price on the holden site www.holden.com.au. But remember the salesmen have at least a $6000 room to move so you could get it down a lot more than that with some dealing just dont rush into it and get as many quotes as you can it took me about a month and half to get the price i wanted to pay for my car which was over $6000 less than the originial quote

Got a VE SS for $38k from Penfold Holden at Burwood East just b4 easter and drove back to Adelaide. Best thing I ever did. Go for the ex-demo. You dont pay for dealer delivery and they want to move them out so you get a good deal. I think if youre paying over $40k for a demo '06 model youre paying too much. You still get at least 2 years warranty. Thats my input. Good luck.

Based on the RRP, the stamp duty should only be $1022.50, since the May 1 changes in Victoria.
Dealer delivery varies a little, but shouldn't be more than $1695, then there's CTP and rego (approx $615), transfer and plate fees, maybe another $60, so I'd make out full retail drive away in Vic to be about $44,300. He possibly was using a pre May 1 price, which would double the stamp duty to $2045, but I'm not sure where the other $5-600 would have come from.
Edit:
What colour was it? If it was anything but white, add another $420 to the price (option cost + stamp duty), and it may have a had some other minor extras.
On the other hand, if it had any other significant options (sat nav, leather seat pack, bigger wheels, sun roof, etc), then he might have been quoting less than retail.
Most likely though, the number he's quoted is about right for an SV6 auto with metallic paint, if he hadn't adjusted for the May 1 drop in stamp duty.

Best price for a NEW SV6 VE would be $37,300.90 + ORC and taxes. Includes GST. RRP is $40,990 + ORC and taxes.
Excluding GST price would be nice if you could claim it back at $33,909.91 + GST + ORC + Stamp duty.
Sounds like you got a good deal.

i'll note your number down in my phone and thanks for the recommendation by the way, Penfold was very polite and definitely above par compared to the other holden dealers; the doncaster holden and watson holden dealerships were less keen for my business.
i'm now applying for finance-hopefully will be able to get my Phantom Metallic SV6 in late july/August!!!
(PS, FYI for $40,000-ish driveaway, i get the semi-auto SV6, with a full-size spare and metallic paint at no-extra cost-what a steal!)
