View Full Version : Which AP Racing Brakes do I have?

VVTi

I managed to acquire some AP Racing 6 piston (front) and 4 piston (rears) including associated pads and rotors, just wondering what model they came standard/optioned on as I have idea whatsoever. I have the adapter brakets also, but no idea what it will bolt up to?

The front rotors measure 14.25 inches which equates to roughly 365mm and I have yet to measure the rear rotors.

Any ideas what they'd be worth second hand?

Thanks for help in advance...

Maybe have a look on their website. Should be able to find all the info you need there

I have looked on the website but pics don't seem to look the same...although I have emailed an AP seller to try help identify them.

AP racing didnt come standard on any holden or HSV models that im aware of, may be wrong though, they are generally an aftermarket accessory/mod

They are probably the ones from the GTS (GTO option on z series i think) in vx2 - vy2 guise... They are probably 362 mm (14.25 in x 25.4 mm / in) fronts and 343 mm rears like the ones on my car. they work a treat!!

they were standard on vx2 GTS onwards i think, and an option on z series gto also from memory.

There standard item's on a VY GTS and would be worth around $4500 to $5500 depending on cond and km, i also have a set if anyone is in need :):)

I dont know what adapter brackets you gave though as they should bolt straight on

Ah sweet. thanks for that! Any ideas what they'd be worth second hand? I don't have the brake lines... also, the front side logo has been shaved off which is why it made it hard to try identify them.

Greg aren't the 362mm ....32mm wide I think you'll find 25.4mm to be the min. thickness??

could be any of these... so long as they are AP Racing calippars and not Harrop

VY Onwards - http://www.hsv.com.au/cars/eseries/cars_classics.asp?car=cars/vy2/gtssedan/gtssedan.swf

The 6spot piston front cam out for the VY GTS ONLY as an option and ALL VZ's as an option(R8 & GST)

In short they will fit VT/VX/VY/VZ so long as you have 19" rims.

Hi Paul,

I was showing the conversion from inches to mm (i.e. 1 in = 25.4mm).

They were also fitted to all GTS coupes. There wasn't a z series GTS either i think you'll find

I think you are right, VX GTS sedan didn't have AP, but VX2 GTS coupe did. The point oldyella was making is that they were standard on all GTS coupes (VX2, VY, VY2).

HSV271 - yours look like 4 pistons and 1 piece rotors.

The ones I have are 2 piece rotors for the rear and front. damn I wish I could post some pictures up.

They look like the baby 4pots and thy're not a 2 piece Rotor as the 6pot AP's are on my GTS Coupe...My Rotors 362mm x 32mm 2 Pieces Slotted and Drilled...and 6 Piston Calipers... the rears are a 1 Piece Rotor..those pictured definitely look like 4Piston???

Is the pictured what people on here are refering to as a premium brake upgrade..Maybe???

does the thickness off the rotor matter as to whether you can custom if a brake kit to another car? I would've thought that as long as you have the calipers and rotors taht are suitable for each other then it would be fine...but someone is telling me otherwise in regards to the thickness of the rotor?...

Everyone seems to be assuming they are the HSV AP's, but if they are these, they can't come with adaptor brackets you say you have on either the front or the rear calipers. HSV AP's have the mounts cast in with the caliper, whereas the aftermarket AP's come with adaptor brackets from Racebrakes or whoever else.
Genuine HSV's also have a two piece 362mm front rotor, but the rears are still a one piece rotor, 343mm in diameter.

In that case, I highly doubt that they are HSV AP's.

I Thought these rears were one piece!! So i went out and on looking at them i thought they must have screwed on to a hat from the rear behind the dust cover and not visible from the outside ,never had them off to know better.:eyes:

They are AP Racing's own caliper package, not HSV's. Hsv have never
had radial mount calipers.

The adaptor brackets can make them fit anything, as long as the piston diameters and fluid displacement suits the master cylinder of the application. Are you sure they are even off a Holden, as there is no real way of telling with the info you have provided?

Unless you trial fit them up to something from VT onward, you aren't going to know.
