View Full Version : Black HSV Rims VE
It looks like black mags are really starting to take off. Years ago nobody would have dreamed of having black wheels. I love em.
Does anybody have shots of Black VE HSV rims, Clubsport inparticular.
I am thinking of getting mine Powdercoated black. I think it will look awsome on a Black VE Clubbie.....I think? Maybe satin black instead of full gloss.
Also sick of looking at brake dust covered wheels all the time. Original pads must be really soft.:banghead:
Any other colour choice or ideas out there?
Thanks

Ive seen a white VE R8 with the Wheels powdercoated black.. looked real nice. I've been thinking about getting the HSVi 20's done in black :)
Im not sure how black on black would look.. probably pretty nice too.

Thanks for the pic I think it looks good.
Does anyone do photochops on here. Maybe someone can have a go at changing the wheel colour. I wouldn't know where to start with these programs.

Hi,
Did you end up powder coating your wheels? I also am thinking off changing wheels or colour. Maybe Red wheels with Black clubbie?

Dido, anyone know a vendor on Gold coast or Brissy that does wheels. Have a black R8. Thinking of some colout to offset the Black.
DC - SSV looks great with stripping and wheels. I would like to do something similar to offset the black on my black R8
Exclude my ignorance, but what's the durability painting the wheels - eg will the paint stone chip or is it a lifelong product

here in the states (ima yank) reputable shops are powdercoating anywhere from 75$-150$ a wheel. most however are staying toward the bottom end of that price range, and the products turn out great. ive had wheels powdercoated black in the past, and the look is amazing! you guys would love it :) im actually going to consider doing this when the g8 comes out if i dont decide to go with the ccw's i want.

about painting the wheels, if your going to do it yourself you may get some chips in it after time. ive done a set on my last car and they turned out good... even the new owner now still has em and they still look great. if your talking about a shop doing it professionally, you will not have to worry, alot of shops should warranty it as well. mine have always lasted a long time, however i take great care of them and never use anything abrasive on them ;)
one more thing, if you guys want to widen your rims anytime in the future, you may want to do that before you get the powdercoating done, heck, they may even strike a deal with you for haveing it all done at once... good-day

This is one of the more disturbing trends at the moment. We really need a poll to see if it is truely appealing to the majority of people to have their rims look like they are caked in brake dust. I personally think it severely takes the polish off the new car look and is tragically short of good taste.

Had my HSVi 20's done in Chrome Shadow a few weeks back. No Powdercoating though. Wheels were stripped,
then a high gloss black applied, then the Chrome Shadow paint, then the clear. Came up pretty good and look nice on the car..
Had them done at Race Paint in Melbourne.

What do you recommend? I think the SSV in earlier post looks great. Not a brake dust finish.
My Mrs will not allow me to spend another $4-5k on new wheels, and with the right finish I think this could be a solution.

Currently looking at these for my VE SV6 in a 19inch but cant decide how the black would look against the Nickel colour. Maybe just the shadow Chrome style instead. I keep chopping and changing

Price is around $200 per wheel.. chrome shadow paint is pretty pricey. Luckily I had my mates spare R8 Rims whilst they were getting done.

Yeah you could get some for your VY.. I took this pic with them on this VX Ute. Just have to get them modified to fit I believe...
they are 20 x 8's front and rear. Be great if they came in 9.5 though for the rear :)

Speedy Cheetah's
You can get them in 19" with the machined lip. not quite a shiny as chrome but it would match up good with the stainless trimming on the calais v body. speedy make these in 18x8,18x9,19x8.5,19x9.5 and 20x8.5. the 20" comes with the chrome lip all others have a machined lip.
If i was to go 19's it would be with the 8.5" front and 9.5" rear. I priced these up in melbourne last week in this size at a baurepairs for about $2100 with tyres.

I'm sure you can get the SSW rims in black like the pic. Have enquired myself at a few places but prices vary so much. Some places have quoted me anywhere from $3300 to $1950 for 19inch SSW black with Maxxis MA-Z1 tyres. Cant understand the price differences

In dubbo nsw here i was chasing up a set of speedy envy's befor in 19". i got prices varying from $450-$550 a rim from the wheel shops here. that was per rim, when i asked about the cheetahs when i was in geelong vic they said it was about $2100 with tyres. My current rims and last few lots of tyres have all come from geff at payless tyres in sydney and he has looked after me. when i get a couple of more sets of wheels ill be going back there again. i would love to buy local but the guys just cant come anywhere near what the metro shops can do. Its all about bulk selling and the metro shops ship so much more out and in turn they get it cheaper.

Four years ago before this trend started I had black metallic wheels on my white VK Brock and similar colour wheels on my red VX R8. No one like them, thought they looked disgusting:spew::spew:. I thought they looked great in a sinister kind of way.
I never considered myself a trend setting kind of guy!
