Not sure but it sounded american to me.
I'm no armed forces expert but why didn't they just floor it through? It didn't look like the road was blocked, but if I was setting up an ambush I would have had a second explosion or a bunch of guys with guns coming up from the rear.

They did'nt go thru as it may have been a come for a larger attack or maybe daisy chained IED's so they wanted to get away from the killing ground until it is cleared as there vehicle dont provide fark all protection from IED's

That was big but was definitely a IED the "I" being important, "Improvised"

That was a low grade explosive judging on the propagation of the Primary Secondary and tertiary blast waves.

Still big don't get me wrong! But actual explosives move at over 8000m/s


That IED was made up of fuel of some sort, the amount of flame and black smoke coupled with the propagation of the blast waves.

Either way I hope no one was in the killing ground when that went off!!!

A common ploy for the ‘baddies’ is to set up a kill zone staggered on both sides of the road including RPG’s and dug in 50 caliber machine guns so if they floored it through the first IED they may be getting into something far worse for the next few 100 metres.

Obviously the road behind was relatively safe so they probably took the best option and fell back to safe ground and detoured round that area.

Good money doing that work over there but you still have to be alive to spend it at the end of your contract.

The thing is they are starting to do the same thing most of the time in an ambush situation, prime example there, reverse out of it. Now i gather that they are setting off the last IED first- so then the rest of the convoy drives though the other IED's when they are reversing. Very uncool.
