Hi guys

I know theres been heaps of info on the exhaust for the ve but christ i am more confused than ever now.

these are my requirements:

- moderate v8 rumble but not small and not loud just right. :eyes:
(maybe once in a while like to thrash it and listen to the lion roar)
- got a baby in the car also
- no drone (or little)
- 3 inch only not 2.5 inch (no fighting over this one ok guys :vpo:)
- stainless steel catback only

i've been quoted $2500 for difillipo and $1800 for the xforce both stainless and 3 inch catback.
so if anybody has any of these can you please tell me what your opinion is.

The reason im going stainless cos in a couple of yrs i'll move to the gold coast to live so could be prone to seawater spray.

Any opinions much appreciated.

Cheers

I have driven a VE SS with stainless 3" Xforce and found it to have a nice note and was not loud in anyway but had a nice clean note , maybe Matt will tell you more about it ,re:drone etc.

cholo,

in all honesty after doing all the research on VE exhaust my honest opinion is for a dual 3" stainless cat back the DiFillipo wins hands down between it and the XForce

it has a nice note thats not loud nor quiet with no drone, well built system.
yes its more expensive but worth every penny.

the XForce 3" dual catback in stainless steel drones bad when you use 6th gear at 100km/hr
Matt (Silver VE SS) did say his XForce has no drone but doesnt use 6th gear on the freeway.
Len (SV8er) put the XForce dual 3" catback on his VE SS and found it droned worse than his modified factory one especially in 6th gear on the freeway. it was on his car for no longer than a day before he took it back.

Personally if it was me with your requirements and only between the two you state i would go the DiFillipo without thinking.

Cheers,

Dean

thanx EXCESSV

Yeah I've been leaning towards DiFillipo but this workshop keeps saying its too quiet. Thats why I've been confused as hell.

Thanx for those good examples.

My tuner has the difilippo duel 3 inch and i found it to be quite a nice exhaust.
Not to loud at idle or to quiet either its just a nice balance enough so you no its a V8, while on the cruze it isn't to loud and doesn't drone. When given a bootfull or at WOT you definetly no its a V8 and it sounds like it means business, to some it up i would suggest from the difiilippo i heard it would definetly meet your requirments.

ive got a ve ssv m6 and just had a 2 1/2 cat back Difillipo in and it sounds perfect. the only problem is that it holds its revs when u slow down like drone type sound til u put the clutch in.

I arranged for a customer with a VE GTS the supply of a Difilippo 1"7/8 4 into 1 and intallation with a Xforce catback stainless twin 2"1/2
It was a great hybrid and sounded awesome. The best sounding stock LSX i have ever heard. Lots of beat but not loud and after a tune it went really well as well.

The Difilppo large headers are brilliant and give a rich sound. The X-force Catback was a good quality budget system.

Mate have you tried the HM Headers stainless steel VE Catback System? They also ive been told manufacture all the walkinshaw systems.

I have just fitted one to my VE SS M6 and its sound great on idle and great throughout the midrange and top end.It does not drone or boom at all.

The exhaust shop i purchased it through said street commodores did a article on it and it made like 12 rwkw with a tune.

hmm let me search it thanx man.

yeah Oztrack its been said that extractors will pretty much get rid of the drone but i just cant afford a full system at the moment. I only wish. Later on in the year I will or else my boss will kill me.

Large Long Tube Difilippos chop up the drone and make it into something pleasant to the ear :) I would just get the extractors and cats changed if you wanted to do something first. Maybe just substitute the middle mufflers with smaller ones.

Its great to see good sponsors on here. It takes about half a day Kit? cos I got the 15k service that you guys are doing for me too. I'll probably ask for a loan car from you or else I am gonna be next door all day. hahaha...

I have a set of X-force 2.5's that droned a bit, mainly on light throttle. Got a set of short pacemakers put on a few weeks ago, drone now totally gone. Car now loud(er) outside and quiet as a mouse inside, regardless of speed, revs, throttle postition etc.
Therefore, might I suggest that the stock headers might have something to do with the drone associated with cat-back systems.

Yeah, I've read a number of times that decent extractors (usually long) will eliminate drone. What cats did you use?

I've got a KPM dual 3" system on mine and everyone seems to think it sounds bloody good but it does drone, although apparently not much worse than a dual 2.5" Powersound according to someone who has one and had a ride in my car.

KPM are going to replace it shortly with a later version with hopefully no drone (mine was one of their earliest 3" systems on an auto and they have been working on improvements), but if it is still a bit droney I might have to try some X-force or DF or Pacey long 4-1's to hopefully fix it. It currently has GTS extractors and cats.

If it is the same system as the one on their Orange SS it does sound
bloody good, very bloody good imo :)

The exhaust is the medium volume one (ie one muffler mid-way, then the two rear mufflers). The cats are the standard holden ones but opened up on the inbound side to accomodate the pacemakers. Also replaced standard air filter with a K&N filter. To be honest its a tad quieter than what I would like - which is better than a tad too loud. Keeps with its stealth theme.
Will be getting it tuned after its 15K service. Can't wait to find out what it is pumping out.

Just an update guys.

I ended going for Difillipo 3 inch stainless catback. Sounds like heaven every morning I start it up and settles after about half a minute. It drones on highway cruising in 6th but I down gear it to 5th and sounds much better.

Its got a nice v8 rumble at idle and not too loud just right I reckon. Would be nicer to get extractors and cats but finance does not permit so gonna have to stick it out til I have more money. It certainly is better than the standard factory system which sounded like an electric car.

If you don't want to go through a page of S.C. stuff then click on difillipo exhaust 3inch catback ve video by loco_cholo - Photobucket (http://s187.photobucket.com/albums/x295/loco_cholo/?action=view&current=366ff56c.flv)

Unfortunately I can't comment on the sound as just found my speakers are playing up - get loud static through one and nothing recognisable from the others. :bawl:
