Just received a newsletter from my local Holden dealer. In it it has an article about a new Holden limited edition model.

At the end of July Holden will be releasing the limited edition GTR. This fantastic vehicle is loaded with extras and there is only a total build of 202. The model will not be available in Aussie and is exlcusive to NZ. The GTR has the 195Kw V6 engine with a 5 speed auto, 19" veloce wheels, full leather and roof mounted DVD entertainment pack. This is an actual model and will be registered as a GTR. The colours are limited to Phamtom, Red Hot, Nickel, Morpheous

GTR v6? Sounds like a croc mate. Like a C2R or something like that. And HSV are putting there name to it? Does not sound right. I wonder if it comes with 6.0 badges and neon lights underneath.

NZD = $51000. Which is cheaper than a SV6 with leather.

Its not a HSV its a Holden model.

Very professional.

Thats my typing, the letter was a written one. It was glossy paper with a picture on the back (which I have only just noticed so I will scan and post in a minute).

So it's an SV6 with extras and a really cool badge?

The badge will be worth more than the car.

At the end of the day this vehicle will be a limited run with a few extras that will hopefully give the purchaser a bit of resale...sorry but isn't this what holden is all about with all of their "special limited edition models"?

But if you are in the market for a new vehicle and this one fits the bill then you are silly to pass it up!.....or you could just buy the SV6 if you think the resale might be better!!!!!!

they always do this in the NZ market. anyone remember the Holden (yes, Holden, not HSV) VN GTS? no, probably not! anyway it was an S-pack V6 5spd with different badging and a letterbox grille. whoopdydoo. from memory there was also a VT GTR 'dealer special model' in south australia aswell. they are good marketing ploys for boy racers but not good for much else IMO.

Yep, see plenty of those around here and just think 'why?'

Not worthy of a GTR badge in my opinion.
Bad and desperate move to be honest.

I remember the VN-GTS: I bought the blue one for my wife and it was such a reliable car she only agreed to sell it to friends of ours when it had run 250,000kms!!! Then we bought her a VTII Berlina which we dressed up.

Now she's waiting to get delivery of her new VE-GTR (Morpheus) on Wednesday next week, as Holden are only releasing it today (Friday 20th/July).

Post up some pics. I have seen quite a few Morpheus cars now (including a R8) and I like the colour.
Would like to see it dressed up as GTR

There is one at the local delear in black, Gotta say looks the goods with the GTR badge and the different alloys, thou it still has the SV6 tail lights rather than the SSV one which is shown in the webpage? Should help push sales along!

What a crock, that thing is no better than a pov-pack skyline with GTR badges on it or is that a BMW 318i with M badges on it? Either way it's plain wrong.

Went and saw the wife's Morpheus GTR yesterday and I must admit it looks really good with the 19" wheels. The only worry I have is the temptation by some young idiots to try to steal the GTR badges: had the same thing happen with the VN-GTS and we had to replace the badges twice.

I really think Holden NZ have missed the boat with the GTR: they could really have had a go at the XR6-Turbo market by releasing the GTR with a Turboed or supercharged power plant, even if it added another NZ$3-4k to the price, and pitching the power output @ around 250-255KW to keep it below the VE-SS, or even taking it up to 270KW and pitch the GTR between the SS and SS-V.

As it is, I think the GTR is a very nice car for a female (this is not a sexist or chauvinist comment, just an opinion) - this is why I've purchased one for my wife. I'll wait 'til it's done a few kilometres before looking at a turbo or supercharger performance enhancement...
