I'm after a manual gearbox. Well in saying that, i'm thinking seriously of going to a manual conversion, and am looking to see what boxes are available in sydney cheaply to help sway my mind.

Otherwise i'm about to spend a lot doing up an auto.

PM me with what you've got and what you want!

Happy to pay accordingly for boxes that have a tex clutch, or rip shifter.

Cheers,
Daniel

Daniel,

Ironically I've been considering an auto conversion for mine. What state is your auto in? Perhaps we could work a clean swap and only shell out for labour. Mine has Tex and ripshift as you know and 2800rpm stalled auto would suit me nicely.

If ya wanna discuss further ... I would suggest ya ring me but that hasn't worked in the past

cheers Dave.

if your quick theres a M6 on ebay at the moment finishing tommorrow night so far it only going for a bit over $400.

Also in the very near future i will have a full auto conversion up for sale as i'm also converting mine from auto to manual in the next couple of weeks.

I have all the bits needed for a conversion such as, Pedal Box, Master Cyl, Flywheel/Clutch, Talshaft and X-member. All from a VY Sedan.

All you will need is the actual box

Drop me a PM if your interested.

Keep in mind a built box probably wont be any dearer than a conversion...if you want a manual go for it but dont just do it for dollars.

Around $3500 got me a built box from Als Raceglides with a 2 year unconditional warranty... and yep that includes the track!

Well ... gear box number 2 just went ;)
And this was a built auto :yup:

Damn those turbos can be torquey muthas :)

Am getting another auto built at the moment now. But once it's in, Tiger SS and I might do the old swaperoo - dependant on labour costs.

The prospect of Sydney peak hour and a manual doesn't sound fun, but atleast it should be bullet proof.

And Dave's getting old, so probably needs the auto to save his leg from a knee injury :) (plus turning round and smaking the kids is soo much easier :D)

Hey Seedy,

How did you break it? and what was rated at???

Mine goes in next week for a new built box.

Cheers

Darren

Gearbox was supposed to be rated as "what ever you can throw at it" and "bullet proof"

I guess a daily driven 1200 nm of torque is going to be expensive to run ;)

oh, and it didn't really 'break' as such.

I have lost 3rd and 4th.

Am still driving it, with it stuck in 2nd. Quite useable in my sydney peak hour crawl. In fact, my fuel consumption has only gone up 2 L/100.
What do you reckon about that Dr Data?

Chances are very good that you just have a broken the sunshell.Common problem especially with FI.Too bad your not close to Brisbane-As I could fix you up with a new "beast" sunshell and most likely your trans problems would go away.James

seems like you were on the money James.

Got the car back yesterday with a strengthened box. at the moment the shift points need some major work.

I went back today and asked about getting my existing 'bullet proof' box freshened up, so I might resell it to recoop some costs. He replied "it's ready to go".
WTF?!? was my reply.

He then started talking about the sunshell, and it all made sence.

Just between you andd me, I think there's a lot of money being made on auto's, where simple fixes are often overlooked.

Though that is exactly what modern society does. Discard rather than repair.

I'm just going to spam a couple of Auto to Manual threads.

So I've been just about to commit to this conversion myself. Having just got my car back with its 3rd Auto rebuild, I needed the shift points readjusted. So I trot off to Marrano's yesterday.

Whilst i'm there, a VERY tough VT Calais is there thumping away.
Whilst the owner was in the shop I went and was checking it out.
mmmmmm Black .... nice
mmmmmm HBD Body kit all around .... nice
mmmmmm double din LCD screen in place of stereo .... nice
mmmmmm HSV 6 speed gear lever .... WTF ?!?!?!?!!!!!

I've gotta talk to the owner about this.

Now, the owner is a member here, who basically never posts ... but I really do need to say a public THANK YOU to Eugene.

His car is a VT Calais, with a 224/228 112lsa cam, with 1.8 roller rockers, and it sounds the business  :diddy:
I asked about his manual conversion, and Eugene threw me his keys.
Now I HATE driving other people's cars, and Eugene didn't know me from a bar of soap, although he had read the Auto to Manual thread, and said "why would you do that without knowing what you're getting yourself into ... take my car around the block".

Now I can comment on the difference.

Previously I've only ever driven stock manual cars, and its been nothing but pleasant. I've now experienced the tex + rip shift + torque monster LS1.

Once again, Thank you mate for letting me stall your car, kangaroo hop your car, stall your car, jerk the clutch out awkwardly, stall your car ... you get the idea :)

That tex may be bullet proof, but geez, made me reconsider my plans as I do the traffic crawl every day.

although it was nice having such a short throw gear lever there.

My old man used to hit me when i'd ride the clutch, slip the clutch or generally did anything that would give him an excuse to call me a grandma.
You defintely need to treat these things differently to a stocker, and I don't know if I could do that on a daily basis.

Great to have the experience though.

Thanks Eugene!
