Did Salem own the MRCV8 that was in Street commodores? cause that name rang a bell, than realized that my desktop wallpaper atm is that monaro from a street commodores. If it is and if that awsome looking R8 is his as well, one he has a little $$$ and he spends it well. :smilesandbanana:

nah doesnt look "overwheeled" imo. Factory 20's mean an aftermarket 2 inch upgrade looks ok.

I like them. Suits it fairly well.

They dont look that big on the VE those size.

Only problem is do they have decent tyres for 22s yet such as the better brands like brigdestone, yokohama, pirelli etc. Otherwise are tyres just the cheap chinese ones which would be crap. Thats what would stop me getting 22s for a VE

Plenty of good brands available.
A local to us has also put 22,s on his ve gts (intro showwheels billet) but chose a custom offset allowing the rim to sit a tinny bit more inside the rear guard and looks shit hot. Has the same stance as above but doesn,t look like the wheels are sticking out past the guards.

Above looks good too!:):)

In my opinion the only thing wrong with that is the lowering.

Too low in the back compared to the front, needs a slight angle adjustment, touch higher in the back touch lower in the front.

Oh and slightly bigger profile tyres!! (those tyres r like skin on the rim!)

Other than that, pretty sweet

i agree with nick. there is such a thing as too big.

just like 19's where the shit with the vt-z, 20's are it with the ve's.

any bigger make them look silly and impracticable.

i also agree with throttle happy, $210 for my hankook's is enough for me to spend on rubber.

Have got the same wheels on my gts, just chrome. 245/30/22 front & 285/25/22 rears. A big footprint but rubber bands for sidewalls. The ride is very good just a little harder on rough roads but i like it firmer . Drive all day with track on.

Ive never been in a car with such huge wheels but I bet the Ride doesn't feel like $70k car anymore.

Cool holden man! For a daily driver i think i will leave it alone. But that looks tuff so low & the grey i had tried , the first set i put on where silver & got the painted same colour as the original wheels. But saw the chrome on & that was That. the photos do no justice to my car i think. In the flrsh its tuff & everything fits.

Oldskoolpushrod
15-08-2007, 03:27 PM
Yeah I know i didnt read the rest of the thread, but youre all soft anyway.

You must all drive on some mega crappy roads to be hatin' on the 22s. You can get around Melbourne on big wheels, just watch out for potholes, but they could cause you issues even on "little" 18" wheels.

There is a point where wheel size is silly i.e. rappers with donks/bubbles/boxes on 26" wheels and lift kits, but that Clubby is phat.

chrism697
15-08-2007, 04:24 PM

Its not that about being soft, i just think they are so big they become rice/bling, stock 19's look great imho Deep dish 20's is as far as i will ever go...

The other note to make is that alot of people think there car is hot because it turns heads, but its people thinking completely the opposite...

might as well jump in whilst we're all sharing the love, I think that not only are the wheels too big , the back is far too low. IMHO the wheel should fill the guard, but not disappear into it , buggers up the proportions to my eye :eyes:

Mungrel
15-08-2007, 04:56 PM
Agreed with plonkerchops,
the rear looks a little too low and the wheels are a little too big.

But hey, each to their own, good on him for being different.

Oldskoolpushrod
15-08-2007, 05:08 PM
It's different. Every bloke with a VE Clubby is getting around on those rims, so you need to GO BIG to get an edge and make your car less common.

I know I'm preaching to those who dont want to be converted, but f--k off big wheels jammed under the guards IS COOL. The AutoSalon generation says so :D

Agreed... IMO the look goes out of balance cos it makes the rotors look too small and there doesnt even look like there's rubber on it... doesn't do it for me.

The style of the wheels are good though, I think I would be drooling on my keyboard right now if they were 20s.

PS I have no idea if I fit into the "auto salon" generation (i'm 18) but you'll never see me in a four-banger with neons and a milo tin exhaust.

i think if all you notice about a car is the wheels, they have screwed the car. really nice cars are the ones that you look at and go "oh man that is awesome...........what have you done to it"

thats real style in my opinion, and its also a lot harder to achieve. anyone can go down to a tyre shop with a wad of pineapples and say "give me 4 of those big ass dinner plates"

Oldskoolpushrod

doubtful.

theres at least $3500 in wheels there before you even buy rubber to fit a 22 inch rim....

that's not pocket change.

yeah exactly, like I said anyone with a stack of cash can just walk into a shop and say "slap some of those big ones on my car"

in my opinion it takes no sense of style to achieve that............yes wheels do play a big part in the cars look but good wheels compliment the look of the car, not detract from it.

in this case the guy has spent a shitload on a really nice car, then walked into a tyre shop dropped a heap more cash, the end result is people look at it and just say "whoa!!!! those are some big ass wheels" anyway that's just my opinion

**fist waving** ... listen hear you young whipper snapper !!!!!

Actually ... the shots above look much better than the earlier cars, and I think I know why. When you make the wheels wider front and back it starts to look like a lowered Landcruiser, the earlier cars have done that and IMO it just doesn't work.

The car a few posts up seems to have wheels that actually fit in the wheel arches, not exactly my style, but they do look much better.

Is it just me but the pics at the start of the thread are at different locations ?

I can see a kerb in 2 or so of the pics but not in the other 2 looking at the passenger side.

The only problems with big wheels besides ride *comfort* is that your so afraid to scratch them that you park a mile away from gutters and your car hangs out of the "box" its meant to be in.

Wouldnt he just cry if his car was sideswiped by something ... i guess he'd be in the wrong.

Back OT, i dont think any of them look all that bad , besides that god awfull bonnet scoop catastrophe.

I'll second that !! photoshop that anyone please?

Cheers

PS whats the name of these rims as I'm very tempted, Red R8 with black tints and about to be lowered with Lovells springs next week I hope. Ive been looking for 20s with Blackspokes, alloy/chrome rim but these 22s might be the ticket!! Also been thinking about the Senator or G8 rear wing as Ive got to admit the couple of R8s/GTS with those wings Ive seen on here have looked very nice.

Don't cave in to em Nick they still are too big IMHO rubber bands for tyres etc etc I'm with you on this ... stay the course. :)

I seem to remember me saying something like this about 20" rims until I bought a set of 20" for my VE . Last night I was looking at some new rims and started wondering how 22" rims might look on mine.

cheers

What it comes down to is, its your ride, if you want to go huge 22' up why not (you cant please everyone). I love the look of the 22' but i could not justify them for every day driving. i would be scared by gutters and pot holes

Haha Holden Man those chops look the goods esp the black rims not sure about the oldschool shannons stlye though.

Personally i still think 22" are too big but they don't look that bad depending on the mag stlye but i reckon its impractical.

I nice set of 20" lowered look very nice and you dont have rubber band tyres haha. Although on my VZ the biggest i would go is 19" lowered...just gotta save up some more penies haha

Had my first drama with mine today. Hit a pothole about a week ago thought f---k at the time, that hurt. How true that statement was. Got a phone call from the tuner saying cant put it on the dyno after fitting the blower. A dirty big crack in the rim on the inside.Anyway got it sorted & tuning starts tomorrow.
