View Full Version : Best Looking Commodore - Last 10 Years
SS_Fury

What do you think is the best looking commodore in the last 10 years?
I may be biased, but I like the smoother lines. The aggressive VX SS particularly in black still looks menacing to me, and is only let down by the interiors (compared to todays VE).
I was never turned on by the VY/Z square butt. The front looks ok, but it just doesnt do it for me. Same with the VE.
Am I alone here or do the older commys look better to you? Maybe you even prefer the VS era? :)

I like the vx... like the shape/lines and the ass.. i like the interior compared to the vy/z silver boring futuristic style interior bits and pieces... i like things to look like what they are and meant to do...
the ve is very strange and not like it just yet... and interior.. no... but if one was to pop up in my driveway id not say no...

The VT Commodore for sure, it was the only model desinged by Australians the rest are based around Vauxhall.
The VT was also designed around a Vauxhall/Opel. The only Commodore not based on an overseas model is the VE commodore.
I was always a big fan of the VX HSVs. These are starting to look really dated now especially on the inside. So I'm gonna go with VE

VE for sure. Basically perfect proportions and its more subtle... perfect for late-generation visual upgrades.

Park any Commodore next to an E Series GTS and it looks old ... without a doubt the VE is the best looking Commodore ever !!!
IMO anyway ... :)

sorry thats not quite right, the VT was also based from the Vauxhall Omega platform
http://www.vulpine.co.uk/images/omega1.jpg
The VE is the only commodore designed from the ground up in australia, all models before that were given major re-skins fromVauxhall
edit*bearz beat me to it, but heres a pic of the vauxhall anyway
I still think you cant go past the VR/VS with a clean HSV Bodykit!

VT for sure! Followed by the VY/VZ.
The VE's are still ugly to me. However the HSV VE's do look good at the back.

The VT Commodore for sure, it was the only model desinged by Australians the rest are based around Vauxhall.as has been said VT based on Opel.
i think it was the Opel Senator back in the mid 90s...looked sooo much like it.
anyway for me i cant go past a black Coupe4...total package and one hot looking car....NickS's one for example
the VX HSVs are one hot car too
but being biased i gotta say that the VE is my pic...
the agressive front of a black SSV with the massive guards with some nice black 20s dumped on its a$$.....:drool::drool::drool::drool:

Would have to be the Coupe 4 for me with the VZ Monaro bonnet.
Best standard rims on a HSV ever as well.
If only they came in manual. :bawl:

I vote for the VT because the first time I saw one 'back in the day' I was much more impressed than when I first saw A VB, VN or a VE.
It looked hot with the guards 'stretched' over the front wheels.
By the way, I would gladly swap my VT Calais for a VE Calais V.

VZ R8 for me. I reckon the model took the best parts of the VX and VY HSV's and molded it into a refined yet agressive look without being too over the top.

I am def a Vx series fan, had the best shape and lines of all the pre Ve series cars.
That is why i own one of the last Vx ss ser II made.
I would say in time the Ve SS and HSV ser once it grows on people will start to tke over this view.

VT and VX SS's get my vote the VY is ok but don't think it was an improvement just a change for change sake. Still not sure on the VE bit too big and bulky and don't like those front flairs they look wrong from front on.
Might grow on me with time. All personal taste though they're all ok.

VT/X / CV8...
The VTSS' just screamed aggression and fatness, and the rear infill looked awesome on the Tiger and White SS's . The VX took that and made it a little softer in lines, but gave it a more V8SC look, and as for the HSV's, well the VXIIR8 looked like it just wanted to kick some ass!
Personally though I liked the concept VT Monaro a little more than the first CV8 (although I love them too)

I like the VT But i am biased as i own a VT SS . I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder as they say. Just personal choice really isn/t it. All good cars.

78 VB, so modern and luxurious, for those days.
87 VL, sloping front and up turned boot, just loved it.
88 VN, what the F#%K were they thinking, a car with spats, this was the only time I thought the falcon looked better.
93 VR, 95 VS, my thought at the time was that they couldn’t possibly build any thing better.
97 VT, I was wrong.
06 VE, and wrong again.
Makes me think that Holden are due to build a fugly some time soon, hope they don’t take any design clues from the French.

Would have to be the VU utes (biased 100%). VT - VX shape were the better of the pre VE series. The rounded middle body just really did not suit the angled approach of the VY onward, particularly the VZs poor attempt to make the old shape somewhat resemble the VE.
And for all those Opel files out there heres a classic.....makes the aussie VN look dog ugly

There are a few that have a special place in my heart...
1. The VL Walkinshaw..
2. VR/VS GTS - Cherry Black especially
3. VE SSV or VE GTS
Had a VR and loved it, upgraded to the VT and while the VT is a great car just cant connect with it like I did with the VR.. But when the VE SSV rolled down the platform at the launch, it was love at first sight...

Owning a VE GTS I'm a bit biased towards the E series.
Take the VE out of the equation and I'd love to own a VYII GTS sedan (preferably black).
I think only 20 were made and having the 300kW (307kW DIN) C4B callaway enhanced LS1 makes it pretty special.
Rare, tough, modern muscle :)

i think its a tough question to answer, for its time the VT-VX was an awesome car, and a huge leap ahead of previous models.
however by todays standards its dated and has that typical "doughy" look that was common in late 90's automotive design.
it still looks good and has aged pretty well, but by todays standards i dont think you can beat the VE, maybe the monaro gives it a run but thats about it i think
anyway thats just my opinion

I nominated the E Series GTS earlier as I don't consider the Coupe 4 to be a Commodore ... however in terms of looks I'd put my C4 ahead of any other Holden.

VX Clubsport (or any HSV for that matter). The combo of the tough looking body kits and the upspec boot garnish, just make them much more cohesive than most.
They just do it for me evertime I see one...... (and the fact that, historically, I am a fairly one eyed Ford guy, and yet was driven to buying one is proof (to me anyway) of thier looks).
I have to say that they look best in Shanghai Mica, and a close second in Phantom Black and you need the R8 wheels.

Considering, in my shed is a Devil CV8 with the lot and 30K, I would definately say "no"
Not saying the VE is a bad shape, I like them, but the aggression and sizing of the VT/X is great, the VE's are getting too porky for my 5'7" build, and the reduced car parking space size.
If the swap was a VE for a VT/X SS, i'd definately jump... SO who wants to swap their VE for my 88 Rodeo
