This is the new 2008 Chevrolet Aveo, which in turn will be a facelfit for the current TK Barina.

I quiet like the front, but it just makes the rest of the car look so old, and they din't even bother changing the alloys :(

LOL @ the vents on the gaurds.

Is this biult on the same body of the current barina (that is just cosmetic differences) or it new engineering?

Hopefully they can get the safety crash star rating up as that has generated a heap of bad publicity for this particular model..

Just got back from Europe this week and saw the latest Barina (Corsa) over there, very very nice car. It's miles ahead over the previous model they imported. This is the Mattel version we are getting from asia!!!!!

At least they pumped both the front and rear guards on the Hyundai. Whats with pumped front guards and straight rear ones.. hmm.. Mind you we are not really the target audience for these types of cars, if it's priced well it will sell well (like most other small cars) and be called a success.

I can see a bit of suzuki swift in the front end, not by features but by the overall shape and proportions... I don't mind the look of the outside but I'd have to see the interior.

for the safety of the good australian public, i hope they are not. have you seen the safety rating of these things? one of the worst in history. probably a blessing in disguise though, as GM will learn from a stupid mistake of importing crappy korean cars.

Saving $$$ may well cost them their repuation in years to come, before we know it the Commodore range will be made in Korea too...

who knows they might improve the quality of the commodore. ha-ha

Koreans can make good cars. Hyundai now builds world class quality cars, they regularly rate at the top of customer satisfaction surveys and are amongst the most reliable manufacturers around

you can bag Daewoo quality but bagging Korean car quality is ill informed

And to think, if they'd stuck with the euro car (ie. Corsa), we could have had this

nope i drive an SS Ute

and don't get me wrong, aussie built cars are pretty good quality, especially for their price. but Korean's can build some pretty good cars these days (albeit some ugly, well built cars ha-ha)

But i do agree that Opel Corsa is a really cool looking little car, a shame we dont get that one. i think GM would have been better builing the corsa in Korea as well rather than having a seperate model

They use to say that about Jap cars too !

Alot of other so called established brands and prestige ones aswell are made in some questionable countries like Thailand, South Africa, Brazil etc -
I wonder if people consider them safe cars ?

I wonder if people consider them safe cars ?It's not where any car is made that is so important, it's the original engineering behind it and the adhearing to componentry specifications and assembly that is all important. A car with the most brilliant assembly build quality is totally useless if the original engineering is below average. My only "issues" with the Korean sourced products is that the vehicles they replaced were considered better built and safer to drive, we shouldn't have to go backwards in this area no matter which manufacturer it is.

Im with you mate. How TF did that sh1t end up on this forum.

I know its a 'Holden' Forum but that is just a piece of Korean crap no better than anything else that comes from there. Just cos its got a Holden badge on it dun give it any credibility if u ask me.

Now wheres that Hyundai thread...... we may as well have one if theres one on a bloody Daewoo!!

Leave him alone.. he had a hard enough time logging in lol.

The previous opal sourced cars had their fair share of ownership gripes. My Mrs has an astra, and I can't wait to get rid of the thing.. parts so damn expensive.

But that car is a step in the wrong direction!

Above pics don't work, nor do the opel ones. Agree the new barina is shite. Had a '98 model, was a good car. Actually had 2, one from new, sold with 20k on it when the first kid came along as it was a city model and lacked room, no issues with it. Second one was a few years back, another city (kids are older so no dramas anymore), but it 150k on it when we bought it. Just after the ex and I split it started playing up, speed sensors were going, two of, $300 a pop and no way of telling which of the 2 were faulty. All up about 2 grands worth of work, wasn't my problem anymore, lol. She still has it, don't know if it was ever fixed, or who paid if it was, she wouldn't have paid for it.

Overall Exterior and interior look a lot better than the current model, more sporty looking which should appeal to its target market. Gauges makes the interior much classer now compared to the old dull green gauges. They should have given the scalloped doors a bit of a make over, would have cleaned the overall image up, but they probably ran out of money. Should let it hold onto a few more much needed sales, especially with the new Mazda 2 coming out.

Just and interesting point i noticed, it says that this is a Europe Only model...So it wont be coming to OZ/NZ???? If it does will the sports kitted model be making it over?

Hamico

This is definitely an improvement in the right direction.

The interior has a more quality up market look now, and the exterior looks well put together, very tight panel gaps.

I'm sure they have improved the safety rating as well.
This is one of the major reasons it has had a quick mid life make-over.
You will see it perform much better in crash tests.

If Holden can hold the price at $13,990 drive away, I think you will see a huge improvement in sales for the new Barina.
