Hey guys - with the VE SS (although this question probably applies to the SV6 and Omega as well) --if you set the climate to the windscreen vents and then turn up the fan does the air con switch on?
I can understand why the air con would switch on - good idea actually - but why cant I switch off the air con when this happens. Every time I switch it off it comes back on a few seconds later. :vpo:
In the morning I like hot air flowing from the windscreen but not the air con running.
Is there a fault with mine or is this Holdens stupid idea that you cant switch off the air con when the climate is set to the windscreen.
Thanks for your help

Mine does exactly the same thing.
Mine too. I turn it back to upper vents once windscreen clear cause I dont like the air bouncing off the door window

I've got climate but also found the same thing i.e. using screen demist forces on A/C and even if you press the A/C button to turn it off it flashes the A/C on symbol on the screen for a few seconds and then turns it back on again. Only way I've found to turn A/C off is to turn it so the screen isn't demisting.
They obviously work on the (sensible) principle that a misted screen is due to moisture and the best way to eliminate moisture is use the A/C as it dehumidifies.

Same on my SV6. I asked the dealer and he said they are all programmed that way. He said its actually better for the car as the air con doesn't use engine power which I found hard to believe. As long as they are all the same then I suppose its the way they were built

Guys this is a standard feature.
The aircon switching on means no moisture gets through and causes the windscreen to fog up even more. You should always use the aircon when demisting.

Yeah I believe this is done to demist the window properly... the A/C takes the moisture out of the air hence allowing the air to absorb the moisture on the window. In my VX I can leave the A/C on and get hot air at the same time for that very reason.

This issue has been around since the VN - VS series Climate control systems. Mine VS is the same deal, switch to demist the windscreen, the aircon is automatically switched on, and you are not able to turn it off whatsoever. I find it really annoying, but there is nothing I can do about it. It is all well and good to run the air con whilst demisting, but the problem is when you switch it off after selecting any other vent, the windscreen just fogs up again.
The problem is that the system is designed to run in the auto mode all the time, which means that 99% of the time it will be using the air conditioning in spits and spurts to help maintain the set temperature. In the cooler months this is just a total waste of fuel and an unnecessary drain on engine power. It may not be all that noticeable in the V8, but there is a huge difference on the V6, you can really feel the engine 'gain' more power when the air con cuts out under heavy acceleration.
90% of the time I run the climate in manual mode, but keep the automatic selection of vents and fan speed, but it won't run the air con even if the cabin gets warmer than what the temperature is set to. On days around 28 degrees or more I run the system in auto, which will use the air con when needed.

If you switch it to Windscreen and Floor mode (ie, the setting to the left of windscreen only if you don't have dlimate control) you can have the A/C off if you want - I go with that after using Windscreen mode to initially clear the screen.
