yeah Im just a bit confused as to why utes are so popular.

Never driven one so would like some opinions. All I know is that some of my friends who have driven a ute say they are dangerous in the wet. :eyes:

Comfort of a sedan, look good + tonnes of storage space in the back.
Add the fact they seem to hold their value a lot better than the sedans

My VZ Thunder ute handles heaps better than my VS Series II ute I had when I was a rep...

don't need 1/2 a tonne of gear in the back to stop it breaking traction like I did with the VS, that's for sure...

They're a bugger to see out the side of (if looking over right shoulder - not using the mirrors) - the pillar is in the way.

SS :)

I tend to notice a lot of utes have got a dented back where people reverse into poles, I notice how hard it is to see out the back driving a ford ute.(work not mine and it was a horrid thing!)

I reckon the new utes with the right tyres handle sweet. My mate has a VS111 ute and he reckons he couldnt do the cornering I can do. Traction is no problem unless deliberately forced but I think that really has to do with the rubber. I got over 300rwkw and I think cornering and even wet handling is sweet. I think that the old mentality of a ute being a bit tail happy is gone by sticking IRS in em. I reckon they look nice, love the space in the back and I like the feel when you drive, they feel a bit like your in a cockpit rather than the cabin.

I only have one as it's primary function - a work hack, muddy boots, gravel roads, fill the back up with crap, you name it, and as it's a company car, it's all claimable. Sweet

they look shit hot.

good option for someone who doesn't need the extra seats.

good to chuck the surfboard / snowboard / drum kit in the back.

if it's an ss it hammers.

Most of the dents I have seen has been caused by dropping the tailgate onto tow couplings....easy done, especially when a raised tongue is used on a lowered ute!

first of all i reckon they look better than sedans IMHO. They are handy for throwing stuff into, DH bikes etc. i have absolutely no problem with traction with the tyres i got which seem to grip very well, and as SSidewayz said i also prefer being in a enclosed cab rather than a full sedan.

That's probably not as much a ute / sedan thing as much as the 3rd generation vehicles handle much better anyway...

They're also a bit cheaper, hold value well, lighter, handle as well as sedans and look quite different especially when they are sitting on their bellies...

I reckon the utes look so much better than sedans. Plus i use my ute for work and play, its great having that much space to chuck materials and toolboxes in the back, then dirtbikes etc on the weekends. Only downside is i miss having a back seat every now and then but the positive def out weigh the negatives.

Iv ownly ever had utes ... i just dont feel right driveing a sdn !!!! lol, lol

for me they look good go hard and you can through a swag in the back with the esky and bugger off for the weekend or to a mates place and not worry about drink driven or where your going to stay (camping grounds)

and a added benifet is you dont have a back seat so you dont get stuck carting 4 pist ppl around at partys and bbq's and when you wont to go ... you only have to grab one person and go ... not be stuck trying to get 4 ppl to go at once ...

yer thay can be a but slipery in the wet but you lurn to drive within the condishons of the road and are only unsafe when driven that way!!!!!

to be honest i never knew the dents in the rear tail gates were caused by the towball, lol
i was gonna get on fitted as i find it a pain in the arse parking the thing in reverse in my garage.saying that i rarely open the tailgate, i just lift the lid

I never could understand the utes, two seats! big v8 with no T/C, no weight over the rear to put the power down, my mum can over take me on her push bike in the wet, when you put your shopping in the back it gets smashed from side to side, and then i drove one, and none of that matter at all and had to buy one there and then, thats all part of the fun in having a ute, and for the looks well they are dam sexy and reading through the postd in this thread not one person has said that there not!
loves the utes

For me, i liked the ute because 99% of the time its just me in the ute (the big loner i am :lol) and ya dont need to worry bout keeping 5 seats clean all the time. That and they look awesome :D
Want chrome door handles, u only gotta buy 2 as opposed to 4 ;) lol
All the little things

Also, slap a hard top on the back and they handle really well IMO.

I used to buy utes for easy tax write off & doubles up well for Moto X on weekends... Never used to need log book for these just claim anything by receipt....

Well as a tradie my ute is very practical. I can hold whatever I want in the back and its at a perfect height to pull out heavy toolboxes when I need them. Whilst it is a ute, it is more than just a work hack. I can comfortably take the missus away for the weekend with a "boot" full of gear and still have the comforts of a sedan, good handling, good fuel economy, nice seats etc. I had a Ford Courier tray back before the VY and it was bouncy, got 250k's to the tank around town and had the worst seat (bench) ever in it.
I wanted the best of both worlds (sedan and ute)! Basically its a sedan with a really big boot and no rear seats!

Plus it look so damn sexy with a hardlid and dumped!:headbang:

The missus can have the sedan and I'll have the ute.

Cheers,
Adam

I use my ute for work as well and I found a great way of lowering my ute ;)

http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/8/23200385099.jpg (http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=6372234)

They are stock FE2 springs and shocks with a few hundred kilo of forklift pallet racking equip in the back :D The tyres had just tucked inside the guards and it didn't cost me a cent.

Hilux with the same weight would have had trouble with the front end lifting up and making handling a nightmare :vpo:

Extra bonus is, that I can put a mattress in the back and sleep in the tray when needed.

I never could understand the utes, when you put your shopping in the back it gets smashed from side to side.

Theres an easy fix to this one mate. I use a 120 LT tub from red dot and an ocky strap to keep it hard up against the tailgate and wallah. No more scrambled eggs before you get home.

Always loved the Holden utes.

VY-VZ utes are pure sex.

Plus the fact that the fastest ute in the world is a Maloo R8.

something about having a sexy car makes everybody want you to drive when you go places. having a ute is a pretty good excuse not to be designated driver :)

also, as stated before..they just look soo damn good!!

summer i throw my boards in the back, winter chuck my snowboards in and all year round i load up the bikes and head off pretty practical really.

ohh yeah its so sexy

i prefer sedans,
however i can see why people buy utes.
Cheaper for top-spec stuff, good choice if you rarely carry more people than yourself. practical. better resale.

Great boot size with a hard lid, and you can still get your shopping smashed in the boot of the sedan if you try hard enough!
You can do what you want to your ute and not have to answer to your misses!

They are Blue collar workers sports cars.

It's a 2 door sports car with a huge boot

I can claim my ute for tax reasons without having to keep a log book like if I had a sedan
