View Full Version : United Petroleum - is it any good?

Just after some advice - I've received a discount fuel offer, some sort of promo between United Petroleum and Collingwood Football Club to use their petrol. Does anyone know anything about its quality etc. I always use Vortex, Ultimate or Mobil 8000 premium unleaded in the Monaro, I am hesitant to use United - anyone out there used it?
Cheers,
Paul

I've been running the ute on Plus ULP for most of the 3500km that I've done thus far, and compared to Vortex 95, the Gen IV uses a little more fuel, but the price offset makes it about the same running cost...

Thanks mate, I'm not really concerned with the price as I have a novated lease which includes fuel (and removes the GST) but my concern is the quality of the stuff -

They have a Boost 98 which contains ethanol...and that concerns me...

My reaction ... fill up a jerry can with it, see how far you can throw it, and trust it a bit less than that.
(Having said that I'd never used United. Had a couple of bad experiences with Gull years ago so have stuck to BP 98 ever since ... and Vortex 98 now that it's available over here.)

I wont go near anything at United again..
I used the Boost98 in my VY.. had all sorts of idle problems, stalling problems and lack of power issues.. Went back to BP/Mobil/Caltex/Shell Premium Fuels.. and havn't had any issues since..

I ran Boost 98 in my VZ SS for about a year without any problems after reading in a thread on here (linked to actual test results by an independent party, plus Street_Tuna's excellent results with an LS2) that it actually gave more power than any of the other 98s like Ultimate. By my SOTP meter it actually did feel better than any of the other 98s and I never had any of the problems BLKVYSS mentioned.
I have been a bit more hesitant to try it in the SSV given it may have to last me for many years now that I'm no longer able to work but after I finish my trial with V-Power Racing (frigging expensive!!) I may go back and try the Boost98 again. I'm still on my first tank of Racing and want to give it a couple more.

i heard this was due to collingwood supporters accounting for a larger portion of fuel thefts than supporters of other teams. the scarves hanging out the window of the xf falson wagon is a dead give away.

United fuel only use shell or mobil as its supplyer. I should know as i do all the United deliverys in Melbourne. Makes me  when i read quotes like the following " I will not use united fuel I will stick to Mobil, Shell, BP "
You are paying MORE $$ for the same fuel you get at shell or Mobil & Bp.
BP petrol is loaded out of Mobil Yarraville Terminal.....

If my memory serves me correctly this was the result of using fuel from a U_____d service station:

BOOST 98 is good shit. I personally don't use it as I get caltex cheaper and the ethanol component increases fuel consumption because it lowers the stoichiometric rate of the fuel. But mates of mine with hipo cars swear by the stuff.

Filled up on V-Power Racing again today and will try Boost98 for the first time with the SSV next time. V-Power Racing was $154.9. Over 30c more than normal V-Power - that's bloody ridiculous!

Been using boost in the wags since i bought it 18 months ago, never had any issues, and actually found i got better fuel economy from the boost than BP98 when i did a return trip from echuca....boost on the way up and BP on the way home.....

Geez mate, that can't be good economy - a tank each way to Echuca and back seeing its only about 200km each way!!!

Actually Torrumbarry to be exact, so it's a little further than 200 clicks, bout 250, and that also includes some extra caricular driving while i was up there....i was up there for a week skiing. Don't know the exact k's, but it was about 50k's more with boost.

Well I've put a few tanks of Boost 98 in the Munro and must say I am pleasantly surprised with the results......it runs better than on the Vortex and fuel economy is not compromised....and at 7c a litre cheaper than other 98 octane petrol it has won me over...
My mate at GMH tells me the engines are OK to run on ethanol based petrol so there is also no risk of damage....

I filled up on just plain V-Power this morning (ACT) and that was 144.9c/l, id hate to imagine how much VP racing would have been if there is a 30c diff..!!

United bought a few servos up here over the last 12 months. Like 5 or 6 mobils. All the operators changed with the purchase. Wierd but everyone one of them are indian operators (that I have seen buying milk there not fuel) and hard to understand. Is it the same down south.
Not be racest at all just what happened to the poor buggers that used to work there before they took over everything.

I have noticed the same trend in Newcastle... Possibly a coincidence.

We've been using Boost 98 for ages now and are very happy with it. Even down the 400m haven't noticed the difference although in saying that all I've got is 230rwkw, might be something else with more rwkw

Similar thing happening in Newcastle as indicated by ole mate Macca.
Nearly all the United's in Newcastle region are owned by the same person.
If you want an idea of what's happening with United servo's "down south" ...
