Just something I have noticed as I walk home from work. The road I walk next to is slightly bumpy. It seems that almost every second VE that goes past I can hear a distinct rattle coming from under the car.(It appears to be from the rear).

At first I thought it was just a one off but then I started to take more notice and it definetly is only with the VE's.

Has anybody else noticed this or am I imagining this?

Yeah my VE does this..... It is the metal clip thats on the brake pads. Its kinda loose and rattles when going over bumps. Some bumps it does not make as much noise. But I have had Holden tighten the clip and after a few months it rattle loose again. I have learned to live with it and hardly notice it when Im driving these days.

Holden should find a fix for this problem ASAP as a car that rattles gives the perception of poor quality.

I've noticed a metallic rattle coming from the front of my VE while going over bumps with the window down. The brake clip sounds like it could be the culprit. I have to book it in to get a few other issues looked at so I'll mention it to them at the same time.

Holden should of payed more attention to quality so that rattles and squeaks would not surface :(

I have a similar problem with my motor mounts (I think), they make a squeaking sound whenever I go over bumpy roads. It's very irritating! :vpo:

You would think that after all those millions of KM they put on the new VE they would get these kind of problems sorted out..

I didn't have a rattle, but really bad squeaking from the back, like even when someone would sit in the back, go over slight bumps/dips etc.

Rang the dealer, got it booked it in, and now they're changing out the rear suspension. There was no fuss or having to argue with them, which I was surprised at.

I get it back tomorrow, will give it a thorough test to see if that does the job. My dealer said they've had a handful of VEs with the problem so far.

its an easy fix under warranty they use some brake pad gear to stop it all moving mines as quiet as now

Picked up my R8 on Friday and i have the rattle. Only over sharp bumps and its from the front end. Definately a metalic rattle. It detracts from the experience and the last thing you want on a brand new car. Absolutely love it otherwise.

What is the fix and if it is brakes, then should the R8 be doing it as they have different brakes?

My SSV has a clunk coming from the right front over sharp bumps, I will get it looked at at the 3k service

VESSVFAN: is yours a fairly recently built car? I had a very similar clunk that turned out to be the sway bar end, which was replaced with one of an updated design. You may have the same problem if your car was built early this year perhaps?

No fuss from the service dept as it is a known issue with the springs. Apparently the issue lies in how the new springs were cut. Mine were replaced a couple of weeks back and the squeaking when going over bumps and when you get out of the back has disappeared. Touch wood!

Yup, my ve suffers from right front suspension noises over bumps and potholes as well. But not always reproducable though. Sometimes hitting road reflectors will cause the noise but other times not!

I took it to a dealer for the 3k service a couple of months ago, the foreman and I were on the road for half an hour to try and reproduce the noise but we couldn't! But on the way home, any bump/pothole I hit produced the clanking noises! How annoying...

Hi Marco, mine was built FEB 07 so I will keep this in mind when getting the 3K service done.........Thanks

Bingo - mine was built 13 Feb so odds are we got sway bar ends from the same dodgy batch...

Got the car back, and it's all good. And call me crazy, but it looks like it's slightly lower in the rear than before. Maybe it's just an illusion, but it does look like it...

My VE had a rattle in the rear end too.
After the best of a week with the car in the workshop they figured out that it was the petrol tank. Not sure how but the noise is gone....for now.

I have had exactly same problem on my R8, more from the front though, it has driven me mad..But its improved with time...i have gone to Holden 3 times, they said the brake pads were made from a high friction compound that makes that noise, I argued how that would make that noise, but now i read some u guys are saying there is some clip on pads that makes sound..Has anyone fixed this problem..

Hopefully JKGMH will see this and explain. He had the same thing tried on his car but I've done a search and can't find his post to refer you to. :vpo:

From memory it was something above the petrol tank which required the petrol tank to be removed. Something rubber above the petrol tank meant to stop it hitting the body???

Wonky, I think I have spotted that post you're referring to.
I only got my 'rattle' noise after they fixed the 'clunk' noise in the rear end. The service dept mentioned something about baffles. I think they were just keen to see the back of it after chasing the problem for a week.

Maybe I should just refer Holden service department to this forum next time I go in with a problem :) Might save them some time, eh?

Unfortunately that has a ring of truth to it....... You'll often get answers on here to problems that have some service departments scratching their heads.

I have bad rattle or knocking coming from front of my LS3 maloo after 250k trip to day
hit some big pot holes and bottomed out big time and has made it worse it sounds like to bits of steel hitting together or something loose could it be the sway bars as i had tien coil overs fitted last week so wouldn't be the HSV springs ??
