View Full Version : What options do I have if I know the speeding camera fine is wrong?

A few weeks ago I was running late for work in the morning it was about 6:50am I was travelling down a main road which is a 70 zone but I was going just over 80 - 82km/h to be exact.
There were alot of bushes on the side of the road followed by a vacant lot and somehow the sneaky coppers placed a speed camera van right at the end of the bushes so nobody could see them coming.
Anyway, I got the mail today from dept of transport they clocked me going 94km/h and fined me $350!!!
WTF thats just flat out wrong I know what speed I was doing because as soon as I saw the flash I looked at my speedo so they reckon I was 20 over when I know I was only 10.
How the heck can I prove this?
Or can't I and have to pay the stupid excessive fine?

yup
Go to a sponsor, throw it on their dyno and see if its calibrated correctly ;)

If yours is calibrated ask to see the recent date the coppers radar was calibrated.

The speed cameras are checked before and after use each shift. You might have to get your speedo checked out. If it is genuinely out (as in no changes to tyres etc that will affect it) you may be able to contest the matter with a stat dec from an authorised/recognised specialist. After all that girl in NSW had a win on the fact that her cruise control was "faulty".

if he was hiding, go and take a photo of where he was located and take it to court, they have to be in full veiw, no exceptions.

Not in QLD they dont. They hide here all the time. None of the 2 warning signs you get in NSW either. Best get the speedo checked (diff change at all?)

even if your speedo is calibrated correctly, you cant prove what speed you were doin. it really sucks mate. But speeding is speeding i know its more money and maybe another point but thats what you get. it will probably cost you more cash to resolve the issue in your favour. i would cop it unless you stand to lose your lisence. good luck though!

A guy was able to show in court how fast he was going by his GPS markings, so if you have a satnav, you could organise the times where you were etc????

only the very expensive sat navs log full trip data and times to memory, PDA's etc some give you some basic info but you need roads, times and speeds logged.

Cop it on the chin dude you're guilty till proven innocent in all matters concerning the road, best just to pay the fine and move on.

I'm still burning over my lonesome *one* speeding ticket near 3 years back when allegedly travelling at 119kph ..speed alert was set at 110Kph and SV8 was fitted with OEM wheels and tyres...my *Generous* estimate was 105 tops....attempted too fight it and copped twice the fine for my trouble..:bawl:
HOWEVER I console myself by thinking had I been nabbed but 5 minutes earlier ,I'd still be minus any license at all ....so in the law of averages ...it kinda works out square in an odd sorta way .

it sucks when you know you were not doing the speed they say, and you can't prove it and have to pay.

I don't usually watch the current affairs shows but there was something on one not long ago where an expert was showing how people can get out of many camera fines because there are very tight parameters in which they have to operate.
The only one I can remember is that if the picture is taken front on then the exact centre of the photo (left to right) MUST coincide with the passenger side bumper bar (from memory about a foot in). If it doesn't it means they haven't set up properly and therefore the speed reading could be wrong.
I'll see if I can find a link to it for you.
