Dad swapped his holden boot badge today for somthing a little smaller as he thought like alot of others that the original badges are way to big. After removing the original badge there was 2 vertical locating holes that needed to be filled or covered up.
If money wasnt a concern we would probably leave the boot bear but this would require getting the holes filled and the boot touched up with some more paint.
The other alternative was to replace the badge with a smaller one from the VZ sedan range which is half the size as the VE one and still cover up the holes. The VZ badge had 2 horizontal locating lugs that required removal for the fitment, that was easy enough with a pair of nippers.
Dads quite happy with the out come and im also lloking at it fo my own VE. It might not be every ones cup of tea but a simple and cheap mod for something different. The bottom pic has the outside ring of the original held over it for a size comparison.

Now why didn't they just leave it that way in the first place !!!
I like it a lot ... might have to do that myself. One thing, do you have any shots with the whole rear of the car ? I just want to see how it looks standing back.
Well done Tim.

definately looks better from the pics you have there.
Makes you wonder why theyve gone for bigger badges. Look at VY to VZ front grille, then VZ to VE rear boot for instance. Even the Barina has a massive badge on it and its only a small car.

I agree it looks good. At least it hasn't been swapped for a bowtie. Keep up the good work.

A friend of mine who used to work at Holdens here in Adelaide said the reason
for the bigger badges was to help people identify the brand of car.
To the uneducated motorised a car has four wheels, but to you and me it's a Vt SS
with a M6 lsd and tinted windows... you get the idea.
All the car makers went down this path a year or two ago.
If someone liked the car when it was coming the other way at say 60 kays an hour,
then this is where the badge size plays it's part.
cheers

yep, just yesterday a coworker was talking about another guy at work who drives a Commodore. After much argueing I was able to convince him it was a Toyota Avalon :puke:
"oh, they're all the same" were his parting words

Heres a few more pics as requested. You cn see there is quite a size difference when you look at the 2 close up pics, they are roughly the same angle.

its a pity they felt the need to go back to locating holes for external badges :(
Was it that hard for people to line them up?

We just need to do something for the front but whats availible? Dont want a Chev or Pontiac badge and with the make of the oe grill it would look stupid with a smaller badge stuck over top cause the centre is made huge for that stupid badge:vpo:.

Sweet as. I will be buyin one tommorrow.
I have gone for the chev badge that many ppl seem to hate on the grill of mine purely because of the butt ugly dinner plate that was on there before.
Really wish they didnt have holes underneath and I could just stick em too my roll cab!

I agree with Fleety, the smaller badge just doesn't look right on that bootlid. It's too small imho.

^^^^ HBD factory bling bling.
Over te last couple of years the holden badges have increased in size considerably. I like the smaller one, go or the vectra badge even smaller again.

Think I prefer the bigger badge on the whole. Anyone else also think that the really tiny Holden badge on the back of the Viva sedan looks ridiculous?

i think that the colour of the car would affect how good the small or large badge would look.
the darker colours would suit a small badge and the silvers and white would suit the large badge I think.
i wouldnt do it unless you can work out what to do with the front one to make it match.
