Hi all,

I was just after some advice with regards to the removal of resonator from the end of the exhaust.

I have been advised it may not be a good idea to a possible loss of power due to reduced back pressure through the exhaust system. The exhaust guy I spoke with said LS1's could suffer a power reduction due to the resonator being removed.

Has anyone else heard the same?

Cheers

mate of mine removed the rear resonator off his VX SS, sounded like absolute sh*t.

Better off leaving it till you can get a proper exhaust for it.

Don't know about lack of back pressure being true given one method for increasing power in LSx's (and most cars) is to put a freer flowing system on it. Removing the rear resonator may make it sound louder, can sometimes sound pretty crappy, but will almost certainly increase drone markedly.

I did it on my VY SV8 and it actually sounded reasonably good, but my wife and kids hated the drone so I got an aftermarket system. I was in the car by myself 99% of the time and could cope with the drone due to the fact that the exhaust sounded better.

Replace the middle mufflers with hot dogs. Don't take off the rear ressie.

Also, i'm so sick to death of this backpressure bullshit people always spout around. I'll say it once and for all, backpressure in an exhaust system is BAD - PERIOD! What you need to worry about is gas escape velocity. If you go too large a diameter pipe then your gas velocity will decrease and reduce the efficiency of the exhuast system.

The higher the gas velocity, the greater the scavenging effect and greater the power gain. HOWEVER, velocity must be balanced with flow. It's no good having a 1" exhaust with huge gas velocity but flowing only 1/3 as much as needed.

I did that to my Clubsport and it sounded good, but went now where, like everyone else say's leave the stock exhaust on and save your cash and buy yourself a good exhaust
