gday all, im looking at changing my power steering fluid shortly and am going to use the syringe method. but where do i get such a big syringe from? or any syringe for that matter? i have no idea where to even start looking...

and while im here, using this method, wont there be old oil left in the lines/system, how can i get rid of this before refilling it with new oil?

thanks in advance...

try maybe a chemist or vet. I think the vet will have bigger ones, especially a horse vet

I don't use a syringe..I use the pipe/squeeze handle out of a squeeze bottle
(Bought at Bunnings for a cupla bucks)..and keep the reservoir for things like soaking paintbrushes or whatever.... :)
and after emptying the pump reservoir
I 'crack' the pressure hose when it joins the spool assy
while I pour in new fluid...and let it run out while pouring
that way I flush probably 90+% of the fluid out

don't forget to tighten the hose back up when you are done!

hth

Try a hydroponic outlet.

Go to Supercheap my friend :) they have an item called the GROZ suction pump, it is a hand held pump a little bit like a grease gun with a clear hose on one end and the suction/pump handle on the other end, it is designed for just this purpose and best of all its only $20.00 plus you can pull it apart clean it and use it again to suck and refill fluid into your gearbox and diff, it is usually kept with the grease along with the grease cartridge guns.
Best $20.00 but I have had in a long time, I used it the other day to refill my HQ diff with oil, took about 15 sec to suck out the old fluid and the same time to refill it.

Both Repco and Bursons sell the MacNaught unit - $57 for 0.5l capacity. For smaller jobs, like getting brake fluid out of master cylinders, I use a turkey baster. Has a long plastic nozzle with a big rubber bulb on the end. Works well.
