Today's Herald Sun has an article claiming the Holden Effigy Concept "may" go into production.
The attention gained while in the states has seen million dollar plus offers for the car by quite a few Billionaires, Oil Sheiks, and even the Russian presidents brother.
Holden claim they may do a limited production run of 100 which will retail for more than the $1.2 million the original hand built prototype cost.
Mmmmm, supercharged 6 Litre !
I for one would love to see one on the road :yummy:

Thats an interesting proposal. There are a number of coach builders (most in US/Germany/England) that you could contract to hand build 100 or so. They would be very steep in price, but given a world wide market, you could sell 100 pretty easy. They would be exclusive and a pretty interesting alternative to the lastest million $ supercars. I could think of 10+ people who wouldn't think twice about dropping the cash to have it as a occasionaly show off car. Just think of some of the LA crowd, UAE Sheks, English Footballers and others (Jay Leno, etc).
Would be a fun project, probably not a big money spinner, but in terms of engineering reputation would be a real turning point. Just imagine the Stig putting down a time or Clarkson in a full on slide in one.

I would say not a chance. The buyers market for them would be extremely limited, and therefore they simply couldn't make any money on them after paying for tooling etc.
GM/Holden is not currently in a financial position to sell a lossleading car purely as an engineering feat, like the Veyron was

that'd be awesome if the EFIJY was built... however i don't think holden can afford to do it...
they'd start building them and realise the cost would be double what they originally thought... then it'd be like the 427 monaro... goneski's...

Not for me!
Car is mint but if that was a realistic price i would much rather take the money to someone like Foose in the states or Labrese in oz with my personal wish list....Im sure it would be as spectacular with no threat of someone else having the same bragging rights!

Whos to say they wouldn't just go to Foose or Bodington and say, make us 100. Sell them at cost. No need to be a loss leader, plenty of people will drop a million to have something that exclusive even if they never drive it. Remeber how good the reception has been in the US and Europe for it.

It wont happen because holden would have to spend so long basically re-designing it to meet ECE/FMVSS standards etc......there is no way it would be worth their while doing that. its a much bigger deal than just handing another company some drawing sheets and telling them to build 100 or so

you couldnt be more wrong about FOOSE...

“Overhaulin’” star Chip Foose—Hot Rod Hall of Fame’s youngest inductee and Hollywood’s custom vehicle builder of choice—makes his stamp on a Ford favorite by designing the 2008 Ford F-150 Foose edition. Foose’s design visually lowers the truck, giving some hot rod style to the iconic American pickup.
He also did a limited edition Ford Mustang http://www.chipfoose.com/press14.aspx, Cadillac XLR http://www.chipfoose.com/press3.aspx and many more so you cant say hes not known for working with other mainstream car companies.
