:)Can someone tell me will there be much difference in sound and performance bolting up to hi-flow cats and a 3.5 sureflo loud system. As i will be going from my hsv short 4 into 1's to pacemaker try's next week then its ready for a hi-stall and tune.

So what your asking here, is will there be much difference in sound and performance after you replace your HSV 4>1's with paceys when you already have hiflow cats and a sureflow "LOUD" system.................I'm thinking yes, I noticed a difference going from the HSV's to Paceys 4>1's. The car seemed to loose 200kgs and felt lighter and toeier on the road.

I have Sureflo 3.5 medium with hiflow cats and have just
recently gone from Tri-y's to 4-1. The car sounds a lot
beefier and more of an old school note with the 4-1's.
Even the other half commented on how much better it
sounds. Also picked up a slack handfull of kw's, but some
of those could have been the dodgy cats pipes that were
found when the exhaust came off.

Get a twin 2 1/2 and it will go even better.

Doubt it, I went from twin 2.5 to the sureflo, been through more
exhaust combos than I care to think about lol. Only way to go
for me now if I wanted to pick up a couple of kw would be the
twin 3 inch :)
ps...Like andypower said, twin 2.5 sound lame compared to
the single 3.5 :yup:

Thats right BLACK 346 i have had about 5 exhaust systems and sureflo is by far the best for sound and quite cheap got to love the deep sound of a 3.5. When getting it hammered past you while someone else is driving it sounds like a bloody race car as i done this test last night to see what it sounds like before i get extractors fitted. As the hsv 4>1 are ok but i think the try-y's would do a better job for flow etc.

Andy,
I have pacemaker 4 into 1's into a twin three inch custom system and i am very happy with the note (especially above 3000rpm).
Its the perfect system for around town as it sounds great when you give it a bootful but is relatively sedate (but still tough) when sliding past the boys in blue!!!
only cost me $1600 bux fitted a year ago
good luck either way you go, but the four into ones sound awesome!!!

About to go down this track with a set of Try Y's off a forum member.
I will be purchasing new metal cats, extending the looms myself, getting an exhaust shop to flange it up and weld in cat pipes, then getting a tune to correct any errors that may get thrown up, but most of all for :burnout:

Have done all of the above, Tri Y's, magna flow cats, 2 1/2" Pex loud system.
If you buy the cats for the right model of car, they already come with the correct length of looms. Just clip them together and tidy with zip tie.
Couldn't be easier.
A few above have mentioned sound quality of twin vs 3 1/2 single.
Mine absolutely sounds like armageddon out the back.
What I can't understand are the benefits of going to a single system which overall is smaller than the standard system that Holden fitted in the 1st place.
You put 5 or 6 inches dia overall of header on the car going through the same of the cats, then you step it down to a little over half that?
Getting the gases out quicker means you can suck more air in quicker = more power.
The above system that I bought, all inclusive, cost $1900 and it was fitted for me in just over an hour.
I did the unpacking so I know that they are all genuine parts.

G'day Andy.
I have done alot of research on headers in particular and have found that the Advance Tri-Y's are the best performer for un-cammed, un-boosted, un-stroked street engines. I think it was Sam's Perfomance who did a engine dyno test on headers between 4 different brands and Advance Headers made more peak and average power and torque in the test. There is a dyno graph on Advance Headers website.
I have Advance Tri-Y's Twin 2.5" system, X-pipe and 2 small resonators and it sounds like a touring car and has bagloads of torque!!!
Only has a Enhanced Automotive Mailorder tune and has made 254 and 256 rwkw on 2 different days/dynos...
good luck mate!

More likely you will notice a big difference in sound and bugger all
in performance, that was my experience with headers on an
unopened LS1 anyway.

Honestly mate same the money I changed my vy2 HSV 4into1 long extractors to Pacemaker Try's and it made no more HP and I have lost some fuel economy.
They do sounds a tad deeper in sound I got to admit but money wise a loss.
Actually I am seriously thinking of sending my HSV extractor to Melbourne to get ceramic coated and putting them back on.

Always interesting the results from extractors and exhausts.
I put a D/F twin 2.5" cat-back on mine and had it dynoed at 195rwkw.
I then put a set of D/F 1.75" 4-1s and their hi-flow ceramic cats on and it made 206rwkw.
The car was un-tuned at that stage.
I certainly had an improvement over the HSV 4-1s, however, the cats may have contributed also.
Sam's test was done a few years back and it would be great if someone else was able to do a similar test nowadays, with improved/modified/new systems on the market.
I definitely think that extractors improve the flow of exhaust gases, whether that equates to better power/torque/fuel economy is up for argument, but in my experience, I achieved improvements in all three of those areas.
You can be confident that the exhaust sound will be better with good extractors fitted.
Cheers,
Macca
