Hi all, i was just wondering if anyone out there has had any dramas with a creak or cracking noise similar to plastic shifting on screws in dash but much louder in the dash. it sounds like its coming from behind the instrument cluster area or just below the windscreen rhs. i have pulled the dash apart, pulled poked and prodded every mount i could get my hands on and couldnt replicate the sound. It happens when i am driving and go over a slight bump or corrugation in the road it is most noticable but sometimes happens for no apparrent reason. could it be in the front end strut assembly? it sometimes happens a lot like every 30 seconds and then wont make a sound for 10 minutes.... it is driving me nuts.:cussing: Any help would be greatly appreciated and yes i have done a "search" to no avail.
Michael.

I thought I had a similar problem and was driving me insane also. Half the reason I got rid of my last car was all the creaks and rattles.
Noise in my current car turned out to be the crappy little Nokia Car Kit speaker the installer just placed up behind the fuse panel....not secured to anything. Moved it down to lower position under the dash lower panel and big thick cable tie pulled tight fixed that. Easier to hear now too.
I still have the standard drivers window seal creaking that just about all VT-VZ have and some occasional small rattles from the rear tailgate trim area that I haven't been able to track down. Will need someone to ride in the back to find it.

I have the same problem in my VX SS, the dash on the RH side rattles too, it drives me crazy also so I know how you feel.
It happens for no apparent reason too, then wont happen for a while, I also have a rattle in the back also, no idea what that is either, both of the rattles drive me insane, after alot of searching still cant find what is causing either one. I know it does drive me crazy though !!
If you find out, let me know :)

It could be something as simple as a loose tweeter speaker up under the panel near the window as there are 2/3 clips that hold the cover in place.
If you have had the dash apart or someone else has the clips that hold the fascia may not be attached to the plastic making a loose fit.
I had one in my vx ss and thats what it was, only prob is after pulling it apart it has moved on me to near the stereo so out with the dash fascia again.

Hi,
in the vx you need to open the door and undo the screws of the air duct.
Then be extremely careful when removing the grill thingy in front of the window as it was clips and can break. can remember if there are screws. so be careful.
There is no need to remove the cluster when checking the tweeters.
i will try and have a look at a vy dash this week as there is one out of a car at a mates place at the moment that we have to put back iun so i will look at that and get back to you by thursday.
its about a 30min job to remove the fascia etc and surround on a vx.

I know what you mean, sometimes the vents in the middle dont line up properly and make noise.
Just pray you dont bend any of the vacum hoses behind there or you hear the vacum leak when dial is in the right spot.

make sure it's not your E-tag, mine drove me crazy until Swingtan found it one day.

Thats why i have never heard of it as we dont have them in SA.
another revenue source, they will get to it soon enough, and the E-tags rattle and it sounds like it is coming from behind the dash, in the meantime enjoy your free roads.

Yep had that one too! It tricks you into thinking it's in the dash, even though it's up high. Bastard of a thing.....:vpo:
