The best oil and fluids:

Coolant:

Hi all, I'm wondering what type of Coolant (Anti F/B) people here have found is best to run.

I know that years ago the Toyota coolant was considered the ultimate (however it was also known to put a crusty coating on the inside of the pipes)

I would be interested to hear from guy's that have noticed any good or bad results from their brand of coolant.

Diff - Gear Box:

What type or oil is best to run in the 5 or 6 speed man box.

I'd also like to change the Diff oil with the best oil and considering using a LSD additive (like the GM one) to add a bit more protection. (is there any time you cant use this additive?)

Engine oil:

I'm sure that the old what oil are you using has been done before or what oil is best. But I did a search and I could not find anything.

After doing a bit of my own research I'm keen to learn more about what oils guy's are having good results with or poor results with. I have heard that using Mobil 1 oil in most of the GM engines can cause oil consumption.

I have also had a few guy's tell me that they are running quality mineral oils (15w 40) with great results.

Anyone got any info to add or share?

I've been using holden oil 10w30 which is synthetic comes in a 6 litre container, tends to stay clean upto the next service.

As for the coolant just use the genuine coolant can't go wrong.

I used Penzoil 20w-50w mineral oil in my old 5.0L was a good oil but used to blacken quickly. For the race car I use Castrol Edge 10w-60w in the engine and Castrol Syntrax in the gearbox. Filter and oil get changed after every meet and there is never any discolouration. Engine rebuilder was so amazed at the condition of the engine after the last tear down he has started recomending it to his other clients.

Nulon coolant and Titan GTO 10W30 synthetic in the engine of both the 3.8 V6 and the 5.7 gen111. The Titan oil quietened the noisy V6 with 160000 kms from the first start after oil change. Very happy with both.

Redline oils are good, not great value though, use Mobil 1, in the race car engine gets replaced after every meet, shockproof in the box and diff, replaced end of every race season

As I said before with the holden oil, they use the titan in the holden bottle.
GOOD SHIT

I have tried many oils over time and i found the Valvoline Dura Blend 5w-30 to keep my motor running super quite and it retains it colour well with in the 5000k oil change . but at the end of the day its still only a semi synthetic blend witch allot of people i tell that im using will raise a eyebrow ! It retails for approx $40 for 5 ltrs. I think at the end of the day it comes down to personal preference use what your comfortable with !
