Need a little assistance!

hopped in my car after work today, and noticed that the trip computer screen that tells u ur speed n fuel usage and all that, has gone nuts!
all the little icons are on it, and its all black! what the hell?
has anyone else got, or had this prob? any help will be much appreciated, btw its a vy ss.
ive disconnected the batt, the black stuff goes away, but once the batt goes back on its there again, i dont kno what the hell is goin on but its sh*%%*$ me.

We have had this problem in an '03 Statesman. Exactly as you describe.

Holden tried to fix it, all they would do is replace the entire gauge / display module. We're out of warranty and it wasn't a cheap proposition. Ours has come good through winter but the heat gets to it.

come to think of it, it does happen when it gets fairly hot, but now its much cooler and the thing is still on???
what is the price to change over the display module? any rough ideas?
ive had the car for 3 years, and its only happened 3 times, and this time is the worst, might leave it out all night with the windows down, lol
come 2am i'll have frost inside the car. :rofl:
