View Full Version : Tuning offer for a Melbourne member
macca_779

JezzaB in association with macca_779 are offering a one time offer to someone in Melbourne who is keen for a cheap tune. We're doing this as both Jezz and I have been tuning and communicating with each other for quite some time now. I'll be heading down to Melbourne to meet up with jezz on Sunday the 30th September and we thought it would be a good opportunity to combine our knowledge and tune a car together.
If anyone is keen it will cost you nothing bar a smile and a carton of piss to feed myself, jezz and the lucky volunteer after we're done.
We'll tune what ever the owner has be it an LS1, L98 or LS2 in either MAF or MAFLESS configuration.
Mods I know this isn't strictly abiding by forum rules but we aren't making any money out of this and are just doing it as an enjoyable exercise for both Jeremy and myself.

Ok guys this is completely non profit. Its for guys havin a smile on their face ;) Its just for making people appreciate the forum;
We both are chipping in to both pay for the license ($60EA) but a few beers would be appreciated
You will be a happy chappy for a tune and you can PM any one of us and we will help you day and night if there is a problem.
Jez
One example of my tune is a L76 with a full DiFillipo system and it made 262rwkw with just the exhaust and 2 hole mod....

If the person chooses the MAFLESS option it will incorporate EFI LIVE's custom operating system 5. This includes retention of dual spark timing addition of Semi Open Loop fuelling and also IAT/VE correction to compensate for temperate drift. This is going to be a balls out full custom tune done by us with a high degree of attention to detail. The car can be A4, A6 or M6 it doesn't faze us in the least.

This is a great offer from you blokes. Considering the time, you may have to wait (until a decent hour) for a response, although at that stage, you will most likely be overwhelmed.
Pity I'll be in Qld, as I won't get to see what will possibly turn into an ls1forum 'tuning' day!
Good on you both.
Cheers,
Macca

I'm happy to give it a go. First A6 for both of us would be interesting. Jez and I really didn't discuss how we were going to choose the car. So it could be you. Maybe people could write a, why I need a good tune speal or something like that. Bit of entertainment for the forum in what people could write. We'll discuss it either way.

Sounds like a great opportunity for a lucky person.
However, you may struggle on 30/9 as that's the day after the AFL grand final.
Gonna be a lot of sore heads and sleeping in.
Best of luck

Gee fella's i'll put my hand up, if you still need someone. the missus VT SS A4. now that would keep her from giving my car a hard time, when she drives it. but she'll be quicker than me if that was to happen:bawl:

I have a 1999 VT SS stock except for a 2,5 system from cat back. Would this be a candidate? Certainly a fantastic offer.

I have an interesting one for ya!
Depends when you want to do it.
I expect to have my Burb up and running this week after a HEAP of mods.
Marine Intake (only one in Oz) with 42lb injectors.
4L80E (again, only 5.7L Burb in Oz with this trany actually, I believe this may be the only one in the world to have been done...this configuration).
Whipple
Twin two speed elec fans
Polished TB with the restrictor removed
Running EFILive cos3 (no need to buy a license).
(currently mafless)
All running via the 0411 PCM I swapped in!
Oh, and I'm driving to Sydney in 2 weeks (I hope...Lol! )

Howard your combo would be very interesting to have a play with. You can bring it around if you like and we can throw advice your way. Jezz's got a bit more FI experience than myself so I'm sure it would be beneficial. Still though this offer is for more of a hard luck case of sorts. Doing a touch up on an already tuned car isn't what I'd like this to be about.

No worries Macca....but...this is NOT a tuned car.
This is all new and I'll be starting from scratch.
I want to be driving this to Sydney so I can datalog on some of those long hills on the other side of Gundegai.
Could have been an interesting project for both here (only Burb on these forums) and EFILive (I know Jezza hangs out over there).
What you guys are doing is a great gesture...I hope the recipient appreciates it.
Thanks anyway

thats pretty much my car guys. stock as a rock HSV senator with only a 160 stat PT style OTR and no rear res. The gains are huge.. I've done a 100% stock VY UTE in the past and also had good gains.

L76 Ute with just a 2 hole mod = 245kw, full DiPhillipo system and 2 hole mod on a Sedan 262rwkw
Shows its worth doing mods. the second could take more but we were being safe as it had 3000km on the new engine.
Stock cars can be done but you just dont get the max out of it you could achieve. The engine is just an air pump, if you can suck in (2 hole mod. otr) and cant blow out (extractors etc) you arnt running it efficiently and to its maxium potencial
Jez
macca_779
23-09-2007, 09:42 PM
to add to what jez mentioned it also depends on the model when tuning from stock. Now obviously a VX is going to net more gains than a VZ will as the base tune in the VZ is already a better starting point. But even the later models still get noticeable gains in the seat with no bolt ons. I've done L98, LS2, LS1 that have only had my tune done to them. And every one of them has been happy with the power and economy improvements.. Its just as jez said. Pipes and intake make the motor more efficient at getting air in and out.. and that is what its all about.

A tune would be nice!
Did the 2 hole mod and headers when the Clubby was new. ( 88k on the clock )
No edits around in 2000 and the fuel economy has always been terrible. ( 19-23 on average )

I'm in the same boat, my car definitely runs better after the tune. But when it was tuned (Only 6 weeks ago) I was asked no questions about what I want or what fuel I am running in it, nothing. told me only BP afterward.

Hi Guys,
Not sure if this is what you are after or not, but i have a totally stock VTII senator, live in ringwood and am available day after grand final day.
Am planning on getting VY2 HSV induction and exhaust fitted over the coming weeks, so it may even be a way of doing a tune on a stockie, then doing all the mods, followed by another tune to see what difference it all makes?
Just a thought

Ok Jez has left the decision in my hands (thanks mate.. no pressure). The decision wasn't an easy one to make as there were quite a few more cars than we were expecting. There was a select few that I was really keen to have a play with. In the end I've decided to choose Hman with his VTII SS A4 to receive this offer. The main reasons he was chosen was that his car being a VTII will net the greatest improvement over any other stock model due to its restrained factory tune. It also has a cat back exhaust already and I'll discuss with him intake modifications prior to Sunday. Hman is also a new member that seems like a genuine guy, and what better way to acquaint himself with the forum than a meet and greet with a few members. Hman's car will be tuned in either MAF or MAFLESS guise @ his choice and Jez will show us his magic with A4 calibrations.
Thanks for everyone that offered their rides for this and I hope to see a few new faces when I'm down on Sunday.

Well done, great stuff Jezza and Macca. I know where I'm going for a tune when the time comes as I've heard nothing but great things.

Well i guess im the first one to reply post (semi) the actual day!.
Apart from the rain, the nosey conrete truck (who im sure was just there to scab a free tune), and tuffy (i think it was?) slicing and dicing his hand with the hole saw, I had a ball.
Beers were flowing before the day even started i think!.
Saw a two hole mod being performed before my very eyes, before jezza and macca fired up the portable nerd boxes and started the tuning frenzy. Unfortunately i didnt get a chance to see the end results of the tune, how did it all go?
Thanks for a great day fellas (even if it was short for me). Always good to be part of a group that has similar interests!.
Looking forward to having you guys work over my tune very soon.

Hey all, it was a good day and great for me to finally meet a few melb members. We had a few issues with Hman's tune that had both of us stumped. Both Jez and I had never done a custom OS A4 before. I had made up an OS5 tune earlier but due to my limited A4 experience I left the trans cal's stock 04 Clubby for Jez to work his magic on. For some reason when we applied the OS the car would not start in anything but 3rd gear. We ripped the tune apart and had no idea as to why. In a frenzy we made another tune out of one of Jezz's old OS5 tunes he used to use in his car pre turbo. That tune wouldn't idle. So by then we were frustrated and really in need of a beer. We ended up putting the MAF back in and tuning it off the stock OS. The car came up really good. I learnt some good tricks for tuning A4's off Jez that I'll be applying to my own tunes in the future. For now Hman's car is singing well on the MAF tune. Once we sort out what was wrong with the MAFLESS tune, Jez will get the car back to finish in off in the way we intended from the begining. Shame I wont be here to see it.
My highlight of the day was taking Jezz's UTE for a spin in shitty weather. I have a new found respect for large capacity FI engines. The power is not something to take advantage of. It will bite you if you don't respect it. Just trying to hold the boost from building to maintain traction on a hair line trigger was great fun, I was giggling like a bitch behind the wheel. I didn't have a problem with driving it as its quite manageable off boost, but longed for a racetrack to use its potential. I think im in love with Turbo's now.

Easily explained.
The car rebelled against the mafless tune!! Its an uprising!!
This car was the first, but will not be the last, mark my words!! The cars have had enough!! :toetap: You can only oppress a whole species for so long.....There will be other cars that strike back upon attempted removal of their mafs....or as the car sees it....attempted castration!! :errr:
Finally the cars are standing up to tuners when it comes to this barbaric and cruel operation.....Justice will be done, and all LS1's can finally live in peace! :yahoo:

Glad your enjoying the car Hman. As Jez said there is still alot more in her once the MAFLESS tune goes in. I've been at bathurst so hence the late reply.
