Hi there
First post on this forum.
Must say reading all your comments has been of great assistance in helping me choose my new Commodore, a Calais V.

Placed my order at my local dealer over the weekend and was told of some changes that are coming and will be included with the Calais that I will receive in about 6 to 8 weeks.
The Calais will receive a small "lip" spoiler on the boot lid and a change in the suspension.
According to the dealer, the aim of the new suspension will be to give the Calais a more compliant ride, similar to the "Sports Luxury" suspension on the WM Statesman.
Evidently this is a new development, somewhere between the "Country" (FE 1) and the "Sports" (FE 2 ) suspension.

I'm wondering if any of you guys have heard of this and have opinions please.

The other change is the SS V will receive a rear spoiler the same as on the SV-6.

cheers

the small lip spoiler for the calais is the same as the Pontiac G8 Spoiler

and yes the calais will be getting a sort of FE1.5 setup that makes it more luxury...wont be called FE1.5 but something like that

Just found some photos of the Pontiac G8.
That lip spoiler looks very smart.

Thanks for the info

The lip spoiler does look OK, but one would hope it would be an option rather than standard.

That's great news about the spoiler as it will make sourcing one that much easier, as I was after one anyway. I'll have to sample the ride of the new suspension to see if it is worth "softening" mine to make it smoother. Thanks for the update.

Is Holden going to do something about the cheap and nasty look and feel of the Calais interior? I'd love to see a lighter colour option instead of the "all black, all the time" look that it has now.

Sure that's not the other way around, ie the SV6 getting the big rear spoiler? I can't see Holden making the SS V spoiler smaller...

Racketsportsi have the part number for the spoiler and went on saturday to see my mate at spare parts at holden to buy some other stuff and asked him to see what the deal is.

the part number i was given by another forum member had a description stating G8 spoiler EXPORT on the holden system
only when it becomes available on the calais will ppl in aus be allowed to buy it as holden stopped a few years ago selling export items through dealers like chev badges, etc.

the price is pretty reasonable compared to what someone told me the hsv senator lip cost

I'm sure the publicity sheet the dealer showed me had the SS-V being fitted with the smaller SV-6 one.
Also, a couple of car colours are going in the Calais range ( Impulse was one, can't recall the other) and those parking sensors will be standard across the range of Commodores.

I think the revised suspension may be a step backwards. The Statesman/Caprice's current set up is designed to cater to export markets and feels very soft to me. It is very neutral, but there is also a lot of body roll. I dont care because I dont use my Caprice for carving up bends, but its a shame that future Calais "sleeper" projects will now have to involve a suspension upgrade to keep everything together. Oh well, just another excuse to lower the ride height.

Its a nasty result of Holden's accountants and marketing people telling the engineers to come up with something more suitable for the lowest common denominator. Lets wait and see what people think once they start buying them.

The lip spoiler is a great idea, but I agree that it should be an option only as it detracts from the Calais beautiful rear bum. The Statesman always needed one to square off that nasty wedged off bit at the top of the boot, but this is not the case with the SWB cars.

Any news on wheel designs ?

...

What about the light urban interior option?

There have been a few whispers around and if they do add a little lip on the back I think it will even look better, just lower it and it done.
Cant wait to see it
