Just curious fellas, has anyone in Vic had a go at this?
Looks like alot of fun.
A friend has made inquiries about setting one up here in Bris and I guess I might go in as a partner.
Obviously safer than street dragging and a good way to spend a wet afternoon, flogging your car indoors against your mates car.:)

ImpullyourselfSSV...We could line eachother up and test the shopping trolley against the blue barge. Better being indoors, your hair won't get messed up then.

People put joking crap on each other on the forums all the time ... sometimes it goes too far and we kill the thread, but most of the time it's harmless.

I've made enquiries for a corporate day in Melbourne.
The site looks good, anyone had any experience with them?

IwantaSS,
The thread is genuine mate, I want to know what you guys think of the concept of dragtag.
And the Fugly Bungle, lol, is a mate from work and yes we take the piss outa each other all the time, plus we are both around 40 years of age :-(
That thread he started about Carey and Wheels mag was taking the piss, some of you take things way to seriously.
But the article written is genuine if you get this months Wheels mag.
So, don't label him as a troll, just cause he has a VW, he could easily have lied and said he had a Commie as well.
So, back to the topic of dragtag, it's looks fun, kinda like playstation using your own car.
I look forward to having a go at it next time I'm in Melb.
It would be awesome if some of you local blokes went and checked it out and put your thoughts in here.
Would really appreciate it as the Fugly Bungle and i may set one up here in Bris.
Thanks again.

Just wondering, has anyone been there yet and had a go?
They say you can either have a drag race with your mates, or they can dial up tracks ie: Bathurst, so you can see who can get around fastest.
All without smashing your car.
I'm looking forward to any feedback you guys have.
Who knows, down the track people here could post their times around Bathurst and see who is the best LS1er in this site.

The DragTAg web page has most of the info.

I spoke with the Manager last week about a Corporate day and or Group Bookings using thier cars, as individual cars need the fitment of a roller tiedown.

He said " just let me finish off by saying that it truly is an amazing experiance and one that everyone will remember forever...it is an addictive adrenalin rush where competitiveness amongst freinds and colleagues cannot be matched. "

The races are over a total of 4 Laps. The initial Driver completes 1 full lap and on entering the home straight for the
second time he/she does not cross the finish line, instead they pull into the pit lane. At this time the driver and the
navigator physically swap positions in the car and take off for the remaining 2 laps.
The first team to cross the winning post at the end of the 4 lap race is deemed the winner.
That team then exits the system and allows the next set of competitors to commence racing. It is in this downtime that
competitors can watch their opponents’ race while having a bite to eat and chat about their own driving skills around the
track and compare race times which are printed out and handed to all competitors after each race.
The teams’ fastest 4 lap race time of the day is shown on the leader board throughout the days racing.

What I was told that the fitment of the roller tiedown was a one off thing and could be left on under your car for later use at DragTag.
I think it is some sort of thing that they can clip tie downs on to when your on the dyno.
Is that right heavychevy?

Key word,"observing".
I'm wanting the opinions of people that have actually had a go.
Of course it isn't the real thing, but atleast it gives more variables to going in a straight line......
And it would be a just for a laugh thing to do.

Yes, I do relise what the pm rubbish was about, don't need a noggin to know that.
Testing investment waters? Not really, it's your comments that keep the thread at the top of the page, I'm just answering your concerns on this matter. I was just interested if anyone had been there and tried it.
You have made your opinions insultingly clear, but if that's the way you choose to offer your opinions, fair enough. I have been dealing with customers for over 20 years, so have a thick skin, not that I really needed to.
Business is very successful and still growing.
How much money has Willowbank made out of you for all of your still counting runs? Quite a bit I imagine. But, I was mainly interested if anyone here had tried it. I have zero to do with the people that own it in Melb but I'm always on the lookout for new things, no harm in that.
That sort of business would most likely loose more money than it makes for a number of years anyway. Cudos for anyone else that has a go with it as it would be a very long term investment.
If the moderators on this site choose to delete this entire thread, it would not worry me in the slightest, because I have zero to loose.
In fact, I would recommend that they do as obviously it has been hijacked for reasons unknown to myself, though I can guess why.

Well to get back on topic....

I haven't tried it. But I think alot of people are missing the point of Drag Tag. It is in no way a replacement for the real deal. If anyone thinks that it is a replacement for going to the 1/4 at a dragstrip (or real racing at Bathurst) then I think they need to get to the real track and see what it is all about. Hence I agree 100% with markone2 on that.

But IMO what drag tag is all about, is offering another, totally different, form of entertainment. I mean you don't hear people complaining that casual paintball is a waste of time, because its not the real competition thing with proper teams etc. Nor do you hear people complain about Go-Kart racing (you know those povo ones where the cars are really slow and the track 20 metres long), because it's not real car racing. The same with virtual sports like Virtual Golf, it lets people play at times/situations where they wouldn't be able to, and for some provides more fun than the real thing.

We have corporate days from time to time, we have done Paintball, LazorZone, Virtual Golf, Pitch and Putt, GoKarts etc. Of course these are all fake compared to the real sports they imitate. But it makes them more reachable for the majority, and it can be alot more fun to some people than the real deal. ie. Virtual Golf (or pitch and putt) takes an hour and has alot less hazards and probability of frustration than real golf, so alot of casual people enjoy it more.

Back to drag tag. Unfortunately for alot of us the nearest drag strip is 3-4 hours away (or more), so it isn't the easiest thing to go and do, especially when you might get 2 or 3 runs for the whole night. Not to mention if something brakes, then a nice $500 tow back home, and no car to drop the kids off the next day. This is where drag tag would allow people to have a half-virtual half-real taste of what it is like, and may ultimately bring more people to real drag/circuit racing.

Want proof. Well I am one of those people that has grown up playing racing games with a cockpit online with people all around the world (I still do and I know plenty of others that do like delco etc). It ultimately raised my interest in racing and ended up being the reason I now participate in real circuit racing. Would I give drag tag a go? Hell yeah. Would I use it to replace real drag/circuit racing? Hell no.

Just my .02 dollars worth.

PS - Oh and mark has done plenty for us LS1ers so I wouldn't criticise his offers of help. Agree to disagree maybe?

bejay
02-10-2007, 01:47 PM
To the OP. I have tried it and it is fun. Not the same fun as real drag racing and circuit racing, just different fun.

You wont know what it's like till you give it a go. Just use their cars first to try it.
