Gday all.

I am in the planning stage of building a 28 ford tudor street rod.
Im flying to Perth on Saturday to organize moving the body shell that I have had sitting in my warehouse over there for a fair while over to Brisbane.

The decision has been made to get stuck into the build and so far I have chased around for a few quotes on getting the chassis done at some of the local shops.

the plans so far are:

Steel 28 tudor shell (ours is a genuine steel Ford built shell from California)

It will be sitting on a 32 Duce chassis Hi-Boy style (fender-less) with the front and rear chassis horns removed.

Adjustable 4 bar rear end with panhard bar.

Sheet metal 9 inch with large bearing 31 spline axles and large pinion centre (ratio un-sure of but looking at about 3.5)

Aluminium adjustable coil overs all round.

Stainless rod city independant front end and manual rack ad pinion steering.

32 Ford grille assembly and 4 piece bonnet with louvered sides.

Fuel tank relocated behind rear seat (usually hangs out the back and looks :spew:)

15 x 6 inch front rims with some kind of skinnies (like 195 / 50's or something)
17 x 8 inch rear rims with 275 tyres (I cant remember the profile but I saw a rod with this set up and they looked horn!)

Falcon stud patern and disk's all round

Fully tricked up C4 auto with high stall to suit the engine thats going into it.

World products "Man - O - War" 460 cube small block (yes that is right its the same size as a 351 windsor!) windsor crate motor, quoted output of 627 hp and well over 600 ftlb of torque!

NOW!.......................

My question is. For any one that has taken on a rod build up in Brisbane.

1 who did you buy most of your gear from?(chassis rails, brake kits, etc etc)

2 who did you get to do the trim? and did the person that did the trim take a lot of time with you getting your ideas down before starting on the trim.

3 who did you or would you see for the steel body work?

the reason I ask these questions is that while I am pretty good on brake and mechanical I am useless on trim, panel and paint and there will be too much money going into this thing to cut any corners!

Cheers all Ill post up some pic's of the shell when I go to get it. (good for a laugh!)

Whoa!

Great Pic's Voodoo cheers mate!

OMFG! that is one serious drive line going into that little 32! Bloody beautiful looking injection set up. What are the specs on the motor do you know?

he will be REAL tight for room with all the turbo pipework under the car (and have hot feet LOL!)but it looks like he has gone even further with the rear end than I am going with the floating axles and that custom four link set up.

Good stuff.

is he / she doing it all them selves? as it looks like it. it must be good to have a workshop. thats my next thing on the list of things to get, a workshop that is.

Something I would really like to find out for my car is who did the headers and exhaust? as they look fantastic.

Hi There Wagnman,

Hotrods eh, they bring back some good memories. I grew up with my Uncle building these from scratch from as long as I can remember. He used to be in a crew from Syd that were called the Bay Area Street Rods, also had a lot to do with the Dragons rod club. He helped organise & Co ordinate the Hotrod Shows that they used to have at Bankstown Square back in the day. Did many a trip to Valla Park & heaps of other rod runs etc when growing up. He has wound things back lately but still does chassis builds from scratch & also does work on many a Hot Rod that needs a bit of old skool knowledge. His fabrication & painting skills still amaze me.

Sorry to dribble, it is just that this thread bought back a heap of memories & all I can say is enjoy the ride & good luck with your build.

Cheers

the 8TB setup is just sitting there atm (its an impressive engine stand more than a car atm) All work is done himself. Pipework isnt an issue... you have hollow chassis rails... think about that for a bit..

I dont think he knows what the engine will be yet. Here is one he built for someone elses hotrod
