The missus just came inside with her rear vision mirror in her hand and not on the windscreen where it should be.
There is some sort of glue on a plate on the back of the mirror which then affixs to the windscreen. Does anyone have an idea what this glue is and what is the best way to stick it back?

mate best bet would be to ring a windscreen mob and find out what they use.
has the whole lot come off or has it just come unclipped?

The whole lot came off.
I took your advice, rang the windscreen mob and they fixed it for nothing!
For future reference, dont try araldite or any other glue. The glue is a 2 part glue called (wait for this) "Automotive rearmirror adhesive" The stuff drys in 30 seconds, but you cant adjust your mirror for 15 minutes.
Mods please close. :)

For everyones info, the main reason not to use araldite or super glue is because they can't expand with the heat like the proper adhesive. Often the mirror will fall off with a chunk of the windscreen glass!

guy at work had the same prob, went to supercheap got said product and fell off, then does it again ,same result.i fix my fishing rod runners and some things in the boat with 2 part apoxy(supercheap)he uses this and guess what? it has'nt come off in 2 months now.maybe he did'nt prep the area properly but he said he cleaned it with metho, many variables but at this stage it works better than the rear veiw mirror glue and has a rubbery dried finish.

The mirror glue instructions must be followed EXACTLY, or the product will fail.
Tell the guy not to park the car in the sun during summer when a few clouds are passing through, as these conditions create fairly sudden temperature changes in the glass (rapid expansion/contraction). He might lose a chunk of windscreen...
