It's a bit like the GT - Ford trying to relive its past glories rather than moving on with something new for a new age. The Typhoon is the perfect example of how good the Falcon can be when they stop trying to relive the good old days.
It's a bit like Holden coming out with something badged XU-1, SL/R5000 or even LE Coupe. Move on.

I don't mind it... but 302kw? should have made it 308 in a dismal attempt to try and upstage a HSV.

it would have been a great car - if they had released it 5 years ago...Just how long did it take them to think of this ingenious concept..the blue/white Cobra theme is just so laughably predictable .To lift its image out of the also rans FPV seriously need to step up imo.

Ok, maybe my previous statement was harsh but what have Ford produced as a new concept in the large car market in OZ over the last 35+ years, drum roll please.... The Falcon. Don’t get me wrong I would love a XW-Y GT PhaseIII, even a XA-B-C GT with a 351C 4V.... then they produced the XD Falcon or as I use to call them “Extra Disgusting” come on Ford get your bloody act together.
Holden Stopped the @ the HZ and produced the Commodore and revived the Monaro due to pressure from the public to bring it back. BTW, it even got exported to the USA, on mass or did you forget that? Which proved it was not a flash in the pan as they say... so smokiebbear, please.
If Ford Australia produce something Unique / worthy of the same history as the 70's GT... I will be one of the first to sing it's praises, until then Ford can dream and follow Holden with it's tail between it's legs like the beaten dog that it is.

HSV calling cars "GTS"? Have heard that in the past, I'm sure....
Neither brand is likely to have a product with the same "halo" as the earlier motorsport derived models. Time has moved on. In those era's, Ford and Holden "owned" half the market, or more. The reality these days is far different...

Not to take side but just to correct a few things here.
1/ Ford are trying to sell cars, the Falcon is tanking as Orion gains mind space. Therefore they are doing specials, 400 GT40's helped the sales figures, 500 Cobras won't hurt. It will carry them through till Orion.
2/ The 302KW is marketing, its building on the original Cobras 302 engine. Model will be nick named Cobra 302 by fans.
3/ The 302KW is apparently on 95RON fuel, which if you convert to 98RON (HSV's 307 is on 98), the Ford is slightly ahead.
4/ 1, 2, 3, 77 and 302 are already spoken for, Ford also expects some current Cobra owners to buy one with their original build number.
5/ The Cobra wan't raced at bathurst until 78, but Ford are celabrating 30 years since the XC's 1-2 finish in 77 with this (and pretending it was a cobra since they can't wait till next year for this special model).
6/ The XC cobra was Fords attempt to move the 400 or so left over coupe body shells, history repeats except its to move 500 BF's and now they are 4 doors.

actually when you think about it this is a perfect clone of the XC cobra. The XC cobra was nothing more than a simple marketing exercise to get rid of cars they couldn't sell .Not much more than two blue stripes . Of the original cars the scariest feature was the venomous snake badge as most were very crappy 302 auto's .Come full circle here they are again trying to flog cars they can't sell with not much more than two blue stripes

I really like this car. It is a pity its not a coupe like the original but obviously that cant happen. Power hike is a good thing to. I also liked the 40th Anniversary GT to. I dont think a bit of Nostalgia is a bad thing myself although the Monaro is a poor example because that was what the public wanted, Holden was going to call it something else. I guess HSV using the GTS tag is a god example though.
Still IMO nice work Ford.

WHY stop at the top of the bar ??
IMO... Holden didn't do it right with their latest effort stopping the stripes on the bonnet ,though they got the width right..
.....as for the Fords width it looks like they let the bosses kid loose on the school holidays with a big fat felt tip marker and said go put some stripes on those cars over there.:spew:

The LE Coupe came out last year from HSV.
Why do people have to whinge for the sake of it? Yes it is to be replaced in 6 months, but that doesn't mean its not a welcome new model release. More power, R-spec suspension, limited edition that I think looks good.
The first pic is CGI, from the Typhoon ad, hense the intercooler, so don't go on that as far as stripe width etc.

When Ford released the original Cobra, they did an F100, a couple of utes and a Transit van in the same colour scheme for promotion. Naturally the copying then followed to all sorts of things.

"The Cobra will ride on GT-P rims with white inserts, machined face. Power delivery is reported at 302kw @ 6000rpm & 540nm @ 4750rpm
Engine changes are new inlet camshaft profile, new exhaust camshaft profile, new valves and valve springs, compression lifted from 10.5 to 10.8 still using 95ron fuel, heavily revised engine calibration…"
Max power now at 6000 RPM? The 290 used to make Max power at 5500 and was limited to 5850 RPM. Does this mean the Boss will now rev to around 6500?? If that's the case, I think there will be a noticeable performance improvement with this upgrade for a car that was always being said that it was being held back by a small power band. The extra 600 revs or so will really help this car a lot. Would love to see the Power/Torque curves of these cars...
My 2 cents.....

actually depends, cus if the new boss is tuned to run on 95, then running it on 98 probably wont increase the performance at all.
But revving to 6000rpm..... hopefully it'll improve times, but driveability around town mite be compromised.

Yeah, I agree with the performance being improved if the power bang is increased.
From memory the ford V8's have always required a second shift on the way to 100k's adding a few 10th's at least! ..... maybe the extra revs are going to remove that need......

I actually think it looks pretty good for what it is, which is a re-hash of a 5 year old package.. You gotta hand it to Ford, they certainly manage to stretch value for engineering dollar out of their platforms! Now how about something fresh???

was referring to bottom end torque. its reached higher and the max power is also reached another 500 or so rpm... plus even fpv said, when the BA GT was first released, that the boss 290 was already efficient, they said they did get over 300 kilowatts originally but that they had to scale it back to 290 to better the LS1's bottom end torque.

Looks like it might be a good thing, not that I would spend my $$ on it but I can certainly see the appeal. The BA/BF range of Falcons look pretty good IMHO and I particularly like the Typhoons leather interior. The OHC V8 also sounds brilliant when reved hard, so all in all with the COBRA badging it should sell quite well. If there is only 500 of them I can see the dedicated Ford guys going for them.
Ford muscle cars have had stripes for years and they don't look out of place like they do on some GM cars .

Mate of mine has bought one which is build no 12 (he liked the build number as it also reflected the 1 2 finish the Cobra had years ago.
H eis hoping to have it in next few weeks due to earlt build no. He previously had a TE 50 which my VE SS belted around Willowbank, despite how good it;s brakes were.
I reckon I will still beat him around Willowbank even though there was a $23K difference in price....Mine has leather so only major difference is his brakes which are costing him I think $4.5K as an upgrade.
Can't see the value in a $75K drive away GT with Stripes (Although the brakes are great).
My VE SS with leather, 19" Clubsport wheels Exhaust & tune has cost me $52K.........$23K is a whole lot of difference......

its funny there were plenty of people here who were willing to pay extra for those photoshopped "HDT" VEs that were posted here a while ago, and they were just VEs SS' with no performance upgades and only some stickers dodgy body kits and some retro wheels that looked more like hubcaps
none of you guys are speaking with any bias by any chance are you? haha

im just a "car wh0re" ill drive whatever car i like at the time of buying, i dont have much brand loyalty.....i grew up around holdens so i always have a bit of a soft spot for them, but at the end of the day when its time to buy a car i look at my budget then look at every car that fits into that and i buy what appeals to me most, if that is a ford ill buy a ford.....or european, japanese i really dont mind.....i'll be anybodies haha

I have owned a Mazda, several Nissan's, Holdens and a Subaru. Im as confused as the next bloke...
I had the sell the 350Z, so i looked at the Fords and Holdens.. didnt like how the XR6, XR6T and the XR8 looked the same bar the badges, at least Holden had cosmetic differences, plus all the wankers i come across while driving seem to be driving Fords, and i didnt want to be a wanker.. :)
Not to mention my Comp Insurance has dropped from $1400 to $600/year!

I reckon they look great. I'd never own a Ford myself as i've always been a Holden man but they look sweet.
Anyone who can seriously claim that the BA - BF XR6/8/T models look pretty ordinary must have vision problems.
I bought the VZ as like i said, i'm 100% Holden. But the Ford was the better looking car until the VE came out...
