As the title states, on Monday my VY M6 will be going into see Dale @ CHE for a Mafless tune and OTRCAI. My car atm only features a cat back zorst with 2 straight through mufflers.
I have been informed by Dale and a few other guys that i WILL definatly feel a difference in the performance of the car throughout the power range. How do you guys find your rides after the operation so to speak:eyes: What sort of power are you guys making on the dyno with similar mods? How is the power delievery on the street compared to stock?
I know its not like im going from NA to forced Ind, but i do however have my hopes up for a decent change, thats the impression i have from people anyway....
Am i expecting too much??
Cheers,
Jason.
PS, will be at WSID on Wed to see what difference it makes:burnout:

You'll notice a bit of a difference.
smoother power i'd say as opposed to the standard lazy pre 2500 rpm.
You'll love it mate, and worst of all... you'll always want more :D

Yep, throttle response will be greatly improved, even a rev at standstill and you'll hear the revs climb and drop much quicker......sounds and feels a lot more crisp.

VZ-SS 5.7 has Pacey Tri-Ys to 3" pipes (cats removed: not illegal in NZ :xmas:), 3.73 gears, tuned, waiting for alloy OTRCAI and MAFLESS...
Growls and goes like my first girlfriend....burnt rubber!!! Seriously, the car pulls off from standstill with a fair amount of g-force on the driver, and it feels like it gets a boost at 3000rpm as it keeps pulling...
Cam is next..

The mafless tune itself will make the most difference, the OTR difference is like changing a paper panel filter to a K&N, maybe a few tenths at the drag though.

207kW MAF tuned with DF twin 2.5" catback
MAFless tuned with PT copy OTRCAI 232kW (ie 25kW gain)
SOTP results:
Much snappier engine response
Much better low down
Pulls strong al the way to the redline
Much more noticable than when I went from stock to MAF tuned and catback
Nice induction growl when the foot is buried
I must say that when I had it MAF tuned with the catback it wasn't the experience I was expecting based on some members advice on here, but when MAFless tuned with the new OTR wow, much more noticable and snappy throttle response!!! :burnout:

Surely you wouldn't have gained 25kw if your original air box panel filter was a clean K&N.

Both CUSTOM tunes were through forum sponsors here in WA and the readings taken off the dyno sheets provided by each after the tunes:
MAF tune - Chipmaster
MAFless tune - WA Performance (ie Street Tuna)
Also, when MAF tuned the ute was fitted with the original MCAI opened up and fitted with two bell mouthed intakes.
The MAFless tune was initially a mail-order, and then I added the OTR, and finally I had it custom tuned when ST was over here. After going from MAF to MAFless I could definitely feel the difference in response and down low punch that kept going through the rev range, but when the OTR was fitted it just felt that much better again. The custom tune only picked up 7-8rwkW over the mail-order and OTR combo, but I could not notice any difference SOTP, however it just goes to show how close the mail-order was straight out of the bag (pun intended).
So yes there was 25rwkW difference, but on two different DD dynos on different days with different operators, but the results are fairly typical of what most others seem to get with similar mods, but I do feel that the MAF tune result was perhaps a touch low.

I got my MAFless tune done by Dale at CHE as well. You will definitely notice a difference especially when you give it a bit. What everyone is saying about crisper throttle response is 100% accurate. The only mods on my VX are HSV headers, twin 2.5 inch cat back, MCAI + 2 hole mod and GTS MAF pipe. Pre tune it made 207 RWKW and post it made 230 RWKW.

How much should an OTR and a mafless tune be? i've had one quote and it seemed a little overpriced.

Mafless mail order is $500 and a second hand OTR is between $200 and $400.

I had Dale do the exact same thing to my car. Only had the catback before I saw him and got the tune with a OTR.
Expect a lot of sore cheeks from smiling so much on the way home. You'll love it!

Well, just got home from CHE, and what can i say, happy as.
Had a bit of a funny thing happen though. Picture this.....
Car gets strapped to the dyno, first pull as driven into the shop.
226KW.........
Both me and Dale were very shocked as you would imagine. Especially since the car only has a cat back.
Dale then downloaded the tune and it turns out the car already had a HSV tune in the system... (I brought the car from a car yard too)
Anyway, off came the standard inlet setup and MAF, On went the OTR setup and after a bit of playing around we ended on a figure that had us both shocked of 244.2Kw. The car did pull 247kw at one stage but couldn be done a second run unfortunatly...
So as you can imagine im very happy with the result:smilesandbanana::smilesandbanana: Car has a hell of a lot better throttle response as you guys mentioned, and very free reving now throughout the power range too.
The figure was aparently the most they have made with standard cats and manifolds, which is a plus i spose and shows what is capable with the shitty OEM gear if tuned properly.
Where to from now.... Dale was kind enough to list down all the mods i will be looking at doing in the future and the nice price list aswell... Goin to have to work on the missus a bit i me thinks:bow:
I will be at WSID on Wednesday to give it a run and see what its got, hopfully have a low 13 if the clutch holds up. A 12 may be possible but wont hold my breath.
Wsih me luck:jester:

Congratulations and most of all enjoy :)

Yeah, happy as with it. Good to be a freak some times:)
Just took it for a good thrash around the back roads, fukn flies compared to before. Snap 2nd and it just drifts.... Until the clutch starts to slip:bawl:
New clutch and RipShift are diefinatly my next mods as soon as i can come up with the cash. Will be scary to drive hard with a strong clutch grippin all the way, no more suburb thrashing... gutters are too close:confused:
WOMBIE what brakes were you getting on your car? which one was it?

you have definatly got a freak there!

Damn, makes me even happier with the output i got. I am going to have to find a way to come up with cash for the clutch faster, once thats done i can concentrate on spending money on making more power:evil:
Thanks for the tune Dale, great to finally meet you after talking to you on the phone on many ocasions over the past few years. You will definatly see me back at the shop real soon thats for sure...

Well, what a waste of time. Waited frigen 3 hrs to get even close to the track, after getting half way along the line, only to be told we are all in the wrong lane, having to reverse back, loosing like 10 spots:flipoff::flipoff:
By the time i got to the burnout line the inlet was hot as, only did small burnout not wanting to heat the clutch up too much, took off nice n easy, then tramped in 1st, slip......, slam 2nd,slip.......,mash 3rd,slip...........into 4th,slip....... Thanks for commin 13.8@103mph, what a joke:bawl:
I didnt even get to use any of the gears as by the time it gripped i was almost near redline and having to change gears again.
Anyway, now i gotta save some cash n get the clutch and shifter before even attempting to run it again
Ran against a nice blue Monaro, standard bar a small vortech charger, ran a 12.9. Even had standard manifolds n all. Runnin MT Streets n auto would have helped no doubt.
