I wanna know how you can have a car like that with ONLY 475km on it !!

Wouldnt you just look at it, and want to drive it !

Looks like the speedo was wound back.

If it was they didnt do a good job as the numbers dont line up.

I've just read that's what can happen so always look for it when checking out used cars. :D

If that is all correct, one would assume the tyres are original.....anyone know if the 225/50x15 Pirelli P7 tyres were what it came out with (i know nothing about tyres)....or do the re-produce tyres for the restoration market???

I can tell you they didnt come out with simmons wheels, that is for sure. It is almost identical to my geniune a9x hatch that i sold 15 years ago.

Personally if it had done 30,000km (all of them hard) I don't think I'd want it any less. Affording it would still be another matter.

Ron Hodgson had been running a very successful team racing Holdens and he purchased three of these shells in 1977. Two were immediately transformed into race cars and the other was a spare in case of a major accident requiring a re-shell of a car. Two years later after the model was to be replaced with the first of the Commodores, Hodgson's chief mechanic Peter Molloy was instructed to build up the untouched shell into a complete car, utilising a new spare Group C specification 308 engine, gearbox, suspension and brake components

Interesting reading;

So its not an A9X?

Its a GMP&A shell filled with bits and pieces! No VIN numbers and never registered.
Bit like having a 12" c0ck and becoming a priest :lmao:

Shame it wasnt used as a nice race car :yup:

This car is mint and the real thing. It sat around in the albany extravaganza museum, owned by Paul Terry, for years. I remember seeing it for the first time when I was about 15, and it had low 400s (Kms) on it then. Read the story that is posted on the auction web site, link was in the first post. We were talking about it the other day and some friends of mine remember seeing it do a couple of laps of the "Round the Houses" race in Albany.
This is not the only low Km A9X in WA, the street machine giveaway car from about 1986?? is also in Perth and was recently advertised over east for $600k. This one has only 14km on the clock.

My guess is that this car will be bought by someone who knows it's history anyway, and will go for around $500k or more.

It is a truly beautiful example and the race body makes it even more special.

I wish I could afford it.

WOW!! My all time favourite classic. What a car. This "race" version A9X will fetch plenty as its likely to be the only one in existance (at least in that condition anyway).

Sorry guys this car does not appeal to me at all. I suppose you need to understand the car's history to appreciate it. But paying Porsche 911 for this seems absurd.

I agree. Like the early GT Falcons I understand the passion for the cars but the current prices are crazy to me. So many cool cars can be bought for this sort of money and I know where my money would go. Still if that is what people are interested in spending their money on who am I to knock it? As a long term investment I doubt these things will stack up as expected but time will tell.

Hi there, maybe I am suspicious but I would've thought all the "0" would be level if it was a genuine 475k's and never been rolled over? Typically they only start to tilt on these old odometers when they are with a few k of going to 1000, 10000 or 100000. The picture of the speedo, clearly shows they are not level?

Cheers

I think you will find we are not saying it is good bang for buck, but we are saying it is one of the all time favourite Australian muscle cars.

True, but what's a 20+year Porsche worth these days. I think this along with Pete G's 350 Monaro best looking Holden ever.

Its very strange that its got LH Torana paintouts across its guards............
LX Toranas from my memory had the black bonnet on slr 5000 and a9x's and the hatchback just had the black around the window frames. Certainly didnt have the black stripe with pinstrip under

It's a factory GHMP race shell, they were delivered only in white with no stripes ect. they have probably put the earlier strips on to tart it up a bit.

this is a rare and nice car though i couldn't justify paying the large sume for it. I could buy something pretty supercarish for that much.

I knew a lady that used to buy stuff of us (we have a fruit and veg deli) and she owned/worked for biante model cars. She had heaps of cars including a peter brock race A9X and she had a red HK monaro with like 10km on the clock or something like that. Pretty cool aye.

But she moved away from the area and haven't seen her in ages so not sure if shes still got them. Peter Brock and other race drivers used to stay at her place when over here in Perth.

Don't buy it then if you don't think it's genuine, simple.

Think you'd find that the auction house would find themselves in a large amount of legal trouble if they were advertising it as genuine and it was not. Like I said, there is another one over here with only 14km on it.

I agree,
It's a shame the Klms aren't original (they don't line up). In my experience, I've been informed by various sources that this is a sure tell tale sign of fiddling the odometer.
Nice car though...

If your gonna be silly enough to fiddle with the kay's. you'd think they'd put say 20 or 30 thousand on or sumthin to attempt to make it a little more genuine.

for the sake of some sort of authenticity an effort to stick the correct model paint outs would have been the go I would have thought

Has anyone actually been to the website and checked the story? This car has just sat around. It was it a museum here in Albany.

Who called in the Gauge Police to do a CSI Miami on the odometer? Anyone? An inspection of this car, if it is still in the condition that it was when I last saw it, about 15 years ago, which it most likely is because it has been sitting around, would surely give an enthusiast a chubby.

When it was sold from Albany it was not registered, and was presented as a race car. The history of the car was known at the time of sale. If you had some forethought that this would be a valuable investment, I think that it would be difficult to attempt to register such a car and use it as a daily driver. It's not just a SS Commodore that there were thousands made, there was 33 race bodies only.

This car is just like a GTHO, no ordinary guy can afford one anymore, they all get put away and no one gets to enjoy them. They are not like a Camaro or a Mustang, where you can still get a LH Quarter panel. You even see less of these cars at the Historic races. No one wants to bend a $750k HO. We had a car show in Albany recently and there were 2 genuine HO's, one was an ex-Race car, and the other belonged to a guy who bought it new and was a driven car. It had dust and stone chips, but was great to see one that gets used. Apparently the guy had been offered $500k as was, and refused.

Whatever, it is a very rare race car and the auction will tell.

Nothing on their results page, just a blank for that and the GTHO.

Someone must have had a bit of money though. A 1924 Vauxhall Tourer went of $340000, a set of NSW plates with 40 printed on them went for $254250.

Very curious though. Was told about another auction on the weekend where a GTHO was passed in at $680000. Only word of mouth on that. Not too sure on the accuracy!!

I heard the GTHO part of the Sydney Motor Show auction was passed in around that money. But yeah wonder what the Torana fetched.
