Desperate for help!
My son owns a Holden ss ute, and let the rego lapse and now has no plates, so its got to go over the pits, which has been left to dear ole dad to do, (he is working up north) hers my problem: the battery must have gone dead flat, because (1) the electronic key wont open the car, even using it as a normal key will not open the door, and don’t set any alarms off when I try to open the doors, so I think it must be completely dead. I cant get into bonnet to recharge or change the battery, I cant join the RAC cos it don’t have any rego number. In desperation I am thinking about busting the window, to get the bonnet open, anybody got any help??? It’s a lovely car to look at, but that’s all you can do. Cheers.

Consulted the expert ,my son and he says that you should be able to open the door with the key, it may have been double locked or deadlocked and when you are turning the key to try and open it , it will feel like it is going to break but just needs an extra bit and it should open sesame, kids hey handy in some ways not in others, hope this helps and you get access

Try this ... lift the drivers side door handle and SLOWLY turn the key in the door lock.
It will feel like the key is going to break off but do it SLOWLY and I think the door should open.
It's possible that the battery in the key has also gone dead.
EDIT: Beat me to it Leilani :bravo:

Please don't think I'm being insincere, but if the car is already out of rego, can it wait until your son comes home to deal with it himself?

I had the battery go completely dead on my GTO and it was deadlocked - using the key manually did nothing. I called the NRMA and he jacked up the front of the car and attached batteypack booster leads - one to the Starter motor and earthed the other lead - and presto the key fob worked again to electronically open the door. I reckon a fully charged battery and a couple of jumper leads would do the same trick.

Ahh very wise grasshopper!
I would never have thought of that....... I guess that's why I am a member of the RAC!

A battery that dead probably wont recover well. It might be wise to spend $90 and put a new one in.
Once you have power back, if you find they key doesn't work, cycle it through the ignition to re-sync the code.

It's actually just going through the motions of trying to start the car with the key in the ignition. The key reader will read the mismatched codes, and re-sync them. This then gets the remote unlocking side of things working again.

a old thread i know, but i just did a search an viola! my WH has been sitting for 2 weeks and i had the same problem, got the drivers door and the bonnet open and am now waiting for the RACV to come out and give it a jump. question is though.... I have an Optima battery (2 months old!) and it appears to be completely dead!? I dont have any big stereo setup that could possibly drain battery that quick, but do have a full ACCUAIR airbag set up, could this have caused the problem....? Big thanks to all who have posted the valuable words of wisdom here so that I could get the door open, any further help would be much apperciated.
