Hey all just wondering of some opinions from some of you's with 6spd autos and 6spd manuals, are the autos quicker then the 6spd manuals or does it depend on how good the pilot is at changing the cogs? Ive ordered a 6spd manual and hope its not a mistake, the demo that i drove both an auto and then a manual out of the 2 the manual felt like a more responsive package in terms of both car feel and feeling like more of a sports car.
Some help would be appreciated.

You made the right choice. Are you going to actually drive the car. Or just point it in a straight line and press the go pedal. "Flame suit on"

Thanks for the reply, yeah i intend to drive the car and also take it to track days at race tracks and things like that, so i think the manual its the box for me.

For track days the M6 will suit you well, where the A6 will frustrate you down changing where it unbalances the rear when hard under brakes. Because you've mentioned track days I'll assume you know how to pedal a manual.. Enjoy the ride mate.

Wow
Very interesting response seeing as though you at the forefront of drag M6 VEs at the moment! Are you referring to just the standard clutch or a bigger problem?

yes the standard clutch will slip but i loved it . The biggest problem is when the clutch stays on the floor or only comes back half way then the next gear change is shit. Even with the tex in it the clutch still stays on the floor not as bad though diff is now it dont slip .If you drive it like a granny the clutch system is fantastic but if you want to do track days or drags i have had a few headaches.inc a new slave cylinder.
The auto isnt to bad the last time we went to wakefield nicks had his auto there and he was doing very well not much diff to my m6.

Interesting info. Thanks
Im yet to see anyone (russo, delco, tuna, phonsey, HPF, etc etc) pedal a A6 quicker than a high 12 yet :(
Someone will be the pioneer and it will be interesting to see it develop.

Has anyone done 12 with an auto?
my guess is they will be a bit slower off the line may loose a couple of tenths.
But would be more consistent and not as many break downs.

i havent had any issues with the clutch in mine
maybe i am not punishing it as much as some or something
i do drags, track days, sprint days, skid pans, etc and find it fine...
still stock clutch in mine and havent had it stick the floor not once

you may be one of the lucky ones but with 274 rwkw running 13.5 i think your not punishing it at all.

I would have thought more break downs :errr:
The 4L60e were shit, and the supposedly weaker 6L80e's should be a gamble.
Delco went 12.93@107mph in an A6 with CAI, exhaust, tune and factory rubber.

practice will get me there and also playing with my setup
the car is a daily for me so busting out a low time and destroying clutches, drivetrain, etc just to have bragging rights on this forum is not worth it.

Im sure your times will get lower mine droped after a few nights at wsid i think takes about 20 runs to learn car and how it launches best.
My point was the clutch was crap if your clutch is still good that may be because you baby it because you dont want bragging rights me on the other hand want bragging rights otherwise i wouldnt waste my money makeing the car go faster if im never going to use it.

My SS is still stock, but I haven't been babying it and the clutch is still okay. Gets a little of the shudders at low speed/revs when cold, but other than that - all good. I've driven an auto SS-V and found that quite nice too, but the manual is much improved over previous models - I definitely enjoy the manual more!

Im the opposite, looking at picking up a VE (maaybe VZ instead) early next year. The wife wants a A6 but Ive been leaning toward a M6 due to issues racing an A6. Thought the well sorted T56/Tex/Rip would be a much safer option.

In any given day-to-day situation the A6 is the way to go. If you intend to use the car for track days etc, or just want to "drive" the M6 is the best choice.

i love my manual and wouldnt have got the auto...but thats me.
i drove chipmasters auto recently and as much of a nice car it was to drive with the mods, etc i just love my manual too much.
sure its hard to launch at the drags
and ppl whinge about having issues with a manual in peak hour traffic etc but i am in peak hour traffic everyday and in the just under 6months 14,000km i have had mine the peak hour traffic still doesnt annoy me with the manual
its a real personal preference at the end of the day

I totally agree with you
it is a personal choice...but I would rather drive a manual than an auto anyday

I drove both and the auto was very good - probably the best auto I've driven, and one I could live with if I was forced to. However, IMHO the manual was still better and I don't regret ordering the manual one bit.

Thanks for all the reply's guys, i sppreciate it. Im glad ive ordered the manual and cant wait to get it, first Holden for me and hopefully not the last. The only thing that does worry me is how long the clutch will last me, in 3 yrs in my XR8 ive only done 30000 kms and should be around the same in the new one. In all honesty i only take off spiritedly every now and then and might take it too calder, i dont sit there and drop the clutch and things like that so hopefully i get a few good years out of the stock clutch.

Id just like to add. I've got a VE SS A6 and I wouldnt trade it for a M6 at all. I've driven both and found the auto a lot quicker off the line and not as sticky through the gears. Im not sure if i was driving a dud M6 but the Auto all the way for me. Although when in the auto they do occasionally flatten a touch when braking hard going down from 2nd to 1st then back to 2nd when slightly accelerating around a corner for example.
Dont forget mate, the A6 has the triptronic option, so to say ppl in autos dont "drive their cars, they drive them" is a bit far-fetched. If you drive with the trip-tronic all day, you'll be ripping it a lot harder then some of the manuals going around, without the clutch slipping out from you.
Each to their own I guess, I mean I still love the M6's they are absolute weapons when you know how to drive them, but if uve had a shitbox day at work and driving through bulls**T traffic the last thing ill wanna be doing is riding my clutch all the way home. With the optional A6, you can drive it similar to a manual when you want but have the comfort to do nothing when your feeling lazy.
Just my 2cents of course. But either way, your getting a VE so who cares?? Both are sweet as man hahaha :P

True. The stock clutch in the VE is feather light and is piss easy to drive in peak hour traffic.
My other car however with the 8 puck, twin plate, ceramic centre and 1500pound pressure was a real pain to drive in heavy traffic.
I heard the ford ZF6 speed auto is actually better to drive then the manual? Anyone driven a F6 Typhoon with the ZF6 Auto?
