The world premier of the new VE Commodore Sportwagon and the Motor Show debut of the new VE Ute range headline GM Holden’s stand at this year’s Australian International Motor Show.

Holden’s display includes an impressive 22 vehicles, across several segments, representing one of the most comprehensive vehicle ranges in the Australian market today.

The VE Commodore Sportwagon unveiled today takes the sedan’s sporty design and engineering advances and integrates them into a stylish and practical wagon with strong family appeal.

Currently arriving in showrooms, the VE Ute is the latest iconic model in a line-up that spans almost 60 years of Australian motoring and is displayed today for the first time at an Australian Motor Show.

Also making its Australian International Motor Show debut is the Special Edition Calais V-Series International. In showrooms late November, this sedan elevates Holden’s luxury Commodore to an even higher level.

GM Holden’s Chairman and Managing Director, Chris Gubbey, said the Holden stand reflects the impressive array of choice that is now on offer from the GM world.

“We have vehicles here to meet the needs of a diverse range of customers and all at Holden’s great value for money prices,” Mr Gubbey said.

“Whether you’re looking for a small, sporty, luxurious or flexible vehicle, Holden has something in its range to fit. And with several diesel models recently joining our line up, that choice becomes even greater.”

VE Sportwagon
The VE Commodore Sportwagon unveiled today is a production-based concept vehicle. It is the first glimpse of the planned production model scheduled to hit Holden showrooms in the first half of 2008 which will appeal to both family and business buyers.

The vehicle draws on the VE sedan at the front, with a sleek and sporty silhouette at the back and offers new levels of luxury in a Holden wagon. This is the third VE derivative after sedan and the newly released ute range.

Special Edition VE Calais V-Series International

The Special Edition Calais V-Series International takes Commodore’s sports luxury motoring experience to the next level.

Available in both V6 and V8 automatic, extra features include 19-inch SuperSport alloy wheels, a unique interior trim combination, chrome surround exterior door handles, colour satellite navigation, alloy faced pedals and a host of other extras.

VE Ute

On sale this month, VE Ute is Holden's first completely new ute design since the VU series in 2000. It offers more features, more useable interior space, greater storage flexibility and more performance than any of its predecessors.

The new VE Ute strengthens Holden’s position at the premium sports end of the ute market by introducing an all new SS V model to its VE Ute range.

Reflecting the trend towards premium performance products, VE SS V Ute offers enthusiasts an exciting level of high-end performance, comfort and style.

It is powered by Holden's 6.0-litre Generation IV V8 engine which delivers 270kW of peak power and peak torque of 530Nm*, teamed with flagship six-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission.

VE Ute SV6 has the High Output Alloytec V6 engine matched with five-speed automatic transmission, 18-inch wheels and dual exhausts. Standard features include sports facias and sports suspension.

VE and WM

Several of the award winning VE Commodore range and WM Statesman and Caprice will be on display including the sporty VE Commodore SV6 and SS V, featuring many of Holden’s accessories.

Launched in July 2006, Holden's VE range has won a host of accolades including Wheels Car of the Year, News Ltd's Car Of The Year, MOTOR's Bang For Your Bucks and Drive.com People's Choice Award.

A strong focus was placed on active and passive safety in the vehicle’s design with features such as Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) now standard on all models.

The Holden stand also features the special edition VE Commodore Lumina which offers an impressive level of standard features and outstanding value for money. Extra features include 18-inch alloy wheels, rear parking sensors and a distinctive front grille.

The top-of-the-range WM Statesman and Caprice models on show, offer more differentiation from their short wheelbase siblings than ever before with more luxury features as standard.

Caprice is currently experiencing a record breaking year and in September - when combined with Statesman - accounted for an impressive 69.3% of the upper large < $100K market.

Captiva

Holden’s popular mid-size Captiva SUV range on display includes the seven-seater LX and the sporty five-seater MaXX.

The choice of five and seven seats delivers a flexible and highly specified range that is proving an appealing choice in the medium and compact-sized SUV market with the added attraction of ESP® as standard.
Captiva MaXX is powered by the high-performance Australian-built Alloytec 3.2-litre V6 engine, producing 167kW of peak power and 297Nm# of peak torque.

Holden’s new responsive and economical turbo-powered Captiva variant will also be on display, powered by a 2.0-litre common rail turbo diesel engine, compliant with Euro IV emission standards.

Available with a five-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission with Active Select, depending on model, Captiva Diesel is very fuel efficient, with the manual variant returning 7.6 litres per 100km and the automatic 8.6 litres per 100km (ADR81/01).

Captiva Diesel retains the intelligent active all-wheel drive system found on the petrol variants and contributes to Captiva’s versatile appeal. It is fully integrated into the ESP® and ABS systems, improving vehicle control and active safety.

Rodeo

Launched earlier this year, the powerful turbo diesel Rodeo on show features several design enhancements, increased braked towing capability and a new five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission to manage the increased torque and retain a light shift feel.

The workhorse also boasts redesigned front and rear fascias, including front and rear lamps, updated over-fender flares and a bold bonnet air-induction scoop as part of the new turbo diesel’s exterior changes.

Improved driver and passenger seating, new steering wheel, HVAC controls and interior trims, updated instrument clusters and interior side vents, plus redesigned transmission levers, makes Rodeo an outstanding range representing great value for money.

The 3.0-litre VCDi common rail engine delivers 25 per cent more peak power while meeting strict new Euro IV emission requirements. Peak power of 120kW is achieved at 3600rpm (up from 96kW at 3800rpm) and peak torque of 333Nm is achieved at 1600rpm (automatic) and 360Nm at 1800 rpm (manual)**.

Epica

GM Holden’s new mid-size sedan, Epica, will be on display with its generous interior space, excellent standard specifications and stylish fit and finish.

Epica is available in two variants (CDX and CDXi) with a choice of either a 2.0 or 2.5-litre in-line six cylinder engine, depending on model. Each delivers a refined and smooth ride and returns better fuel economy than some of the four-cylinder rivals in the mid-size sedan segment.

Epica’s impressive fuel economy (ADR081/01) is 8.2 litres/100km for the 2.0-litre manual variant and 9.3 litres/100km for the 2.5-litre automatic.

Small car range

The sporty AH Astra SRi turbo coupe, with its sleek silhouette and lowered stance, is alongside the Astra turbo diesel five-door hatch which delivers outstanding performance and improved fuel economy.

These cars will be joined by the flexible Astra CDX wagon and the stunning Astra TwinTop which brings retractable hard top technology to the small convertible market at an accessible price.

The segment-leading TwinTop has a three-piece retractable hard top allowing the roof to fold tightly, ensuring the rear of the car remains space efficient and in perfect proportion.

A functional and stylish vehicle, it seats up to four people and boasts 205 litres of storage space when the roof is open and 440 litres when the roof is closed.

Complimenting the small car range, the Viva hatch and Barina three-door and sedan models will be on display with levels of standard equipment that represent outstanding value for money.
