Hey,

Im going to attempt to install my HID kit's tomorrow, (well today now) and im wondering if anyone has any helpful hints/tips to take note of when removing the front bumper on a VE SSV?

Cheers,

I'm guessing removing the bumper may make some aspects of installation easier but I've had HIDs installed in my VZ SS and now low beam and later high beam done in the SSV and the bars have never come off.

Having said that I'm guessing access on the VE isn't as simple as it took longer to install the VE ones than the VZ.

My front bar did come off (on a hoist) when I had the BRM (Big Rob Mod) done at Chev's. Looked very straightforward. Just make sure depending on the surface you do it on to have someone there to help you lower it so it doesn't drop onto concrete or something.

Only reason i was going to take the bumper off is because i've got a high & low kit i figured it might be easier to hide away the 4 ballasts... how've you got yours mounted? do you have pics? i'd love to see :)

P.S. had a mate come round this arvo and we managed to get both my GPS & Radar Detector hardwired into the 12v socket's power... works flawlessly, and you cant see any of the wiring except when it pops out to plug into the devices.

Due to my disabilities (hence Wonky :D) I just got my friendly local auto elec to install them and I hardly ever even look under the bonnet. From memory I think they got the first 2 (for low beam) siliconed up under the lights somewhere but I know one of the high beam ones (at least) is visible in the engine bay.

Given it's not hard to do it may not be a bad idea to pull it off in an effort to hide the ballasts given you also have four.

Both front wheels off, undertray off, peel back half of the wheel arch liner, top radiator plastic trim off, 4 bolts under the gard off and the captive nuts out... disconnect both headlights by sliding the red part of the plug up and a couple of screws later.... Put the ballasts in the top chassis rail. One in it and the other on the under surface. You'll need to drill a couple of holes, but everything is 'hidden' and in a dry place.
I bought Gerrards units for both hi and Lo beam. No need to use the relay harness supplied, just plug 'em in. Each head lamp is fused in the VE. No wokkers with the surge current. Had mine in for 6 months and working fine.

I want to take mine off to fiddle round with the CAI. Anyone removed & replaced theirs yet and if so could they give me a blow by blow way of doing it.
