Just got an email from a seller of bikesales.com.au and it just seems a little odd to me. it is as follows

Hi James

Please take a few moments and read this email carefully because you may be the next owner
of this beauty.

The price for it is 4,200 AUD. The bike is in perfect condition and has no mechanical
problems. No scratches or dents, no accidents. All services have been made at a Honda
Service in time. The bike was mostly garage kept and it have the logbook. It is AU model
and can be registered to your name without problems.

I will wait for your email to let me know if you are interested in knowing more details
about the purchase and please reply asap and let me know your full name and where are you
located (your full shipping address) to calculate shipping cost.

Thanks.

More info:
1999 HONDA CBR250RR SPORTSBIKE ROAD
Kilometres: 36,260
Transmission: 6 speed M
Engine: 4 cylinder Inline ( 249 cc)
Rego - ******(changed so not known on here) (Exp: 6 2008)

SEAN.

The odd things are, i asked why it was painted yellow, as i do not see the point in respraying a bike, unless it has had some damage.
He has asked for my details to calculate shipping costs! That is a big weird bit!
Seems pretty cheap to me for what it is..

Good deal if it is legit.

Thanks
James

Not really that good a deal ... pretty normal price e.g. http://www.autotrader.com.au/iteminfo/adnumber_W71029247981_kw_honda+cbr250_loc_locRZSQr egtAVSCdistRZSQAVSCstateRZSQ9AVSCregRZSQ_off_12_se ct_Automotive_sort_otRZSQ1BJDZfdRZSQSearchDisplayP riorityIndAVSCotRZSQ1BJDZfdRZSQFirstPublished_sqt_ 0_stpg_1_subs_Motor+Bikes_

The seller should only need your postcode to calculate shipping - nothing more

Not sure in the paint, I doubt he would have to change the Color because of Damage, more likely to be a custom paint job.
I personally wouldn't buy without riding, many things could be wrong ie bent steering head or twisted frame or motor probs , electrics etc. I am not too sure on the no accidents , wouldn't be too many 250 on the road that haven't been dropped of that age

I am bit suss of the
" read the email carefully as you could be the next owner of this beauty" sounds he should have put in his email " and if you buy now we will give you a set of 6 steak knives for free"

and what's this AU Model thing and why put " and can be registered in your name without problems

Seems all a bit suss and not sure on the price.

I think maybe it is a import Judging by the AU model and registered comments,

So it's a possibility it has no compliance plate, and that is going to hard to get.

Just some of my thoughts,

try and search for other bikes in the same area and travel to have a look at a few if you can't find 1 in your area.
I would find something else and ride it yourself or get someone you trust to ride

Hope I have been of some help

Sound Like a scam like all the others around except this guy is trying to blend in and put a half beliveable price in rather then a silly price. Its like a 350 GTS monaro for 10k everyone knows its a scam now but if he puts 30k people might actually tranfer the money in to his swiss bank account. COD is the only way IMHO anyway

Got another email back, shame he doesnt mention on bikesales that the bike is actually overseas as he does in the email.
IF it is and he is legit good on him, i am not interested in a bike i cannot see/ride before i buy so i told him that.

Shame its a nice looking bike :P

Hello again James,

As I've said the bike is in perfect mechanical and esthetical condition and the
pictures speak for themselves. The price that I'm looking for it is 4,200 AUD.

You have to know that the bike I am selling is 100% working and great looking, no flaws or
dents, no scratches or any kind of damage, no flood or wrecked.
Genuine reason for sale I just moved to Germany because my wife is german and she wanted
to be closer to her parents as they are old and very ill. The bike is here with us as well.
We are expecting a baby in a few weeks and I really want to improve the old house we bought
when we moved in time for the baby. I have bought and registered the bike in the Australia,
but unfortunately I wasn't able to register it here in Europe. For that I have pay a
very big fee and I will also have to start an individual procedure for the motorcycle
through the Government and I really can't afford those expenses right now with the baby
on the way. Those are the reasons why the price I want for it is just 4,200.00 AUD.

The transaction will be made under SafeTrader's buyer protection plan. I am a
SafeTrader and BikeSales member and I want to make the deal thru them cause I have a $8,000
insurance policy with them. They will act like a THIRD PARTY and we will be both 100%
protected. The money will be HOLD by them into their escrow account and I will give you a
few days to test the bike and to see that nothing is wrong with it. I made few deals in this
way and it worked very well.

This is how it works :
1.The Seller will open the transaction; 2.The buyer has to make the payment to Financial
Department and they will deposit the money into their escrow account;
3.The Seller will receive the confirmation that the payment is done; 4.The seller will
ship the item to the buyer and he has 3 days to test check it;
5.The buyer will contact SafeTrader to tell them if he is satisfied or not; 6. SafeTrader
will release the money to the seller (in case the buyer is satisfied) and to the buyer(in
case that he is not satisfied).

I'm a serious man and I prefer to deal only with a serious buyer. If you consider
yourself one please e-mail me and let me know if u want to move forward this deal. I hope
you agree with me, because I think this it is the best way to protect both (seller and
buyer).
So, please reply back with next information if you are really interested in purchasing
this bike so we can start the arrangements:

Full Name ;
Address ;
City/State ;
Post Code ;

My best wishes!
Sean

Mate anything overseas is normally rubbish. Seen it many times. Not worth the risk. Stop all contact.
Dont talk any further to him but report it to bikesales. They can confirm if it is rubbish or not by requesting ID from them or risk the add being removed.

Another way that may assist is get him to scan or take a digital photo of his drivers licence and rego papers. My bet he will reply and say his scanner is broken or he does not have a digital camera.

Another way is that scammers always do long speals on their reply emails as they get e-mails from many people, their phone numbers do not work, and the address is bogus. They just cut and past e-mails and wait for the gulable ones to send money. Once I found a address of a scammer and it was a church in melbourne. Of course it was not correct.

Just find a desperate person with a similar bike maybe in money trouble and do a deal.Deal and wheel and good luck.

Report it so noone does send the cash.

My cousin nearly did this with a Clubby. I checked it out and then reported it to said site as a scam.

Agreed, stay well away from it James.

Some of the JAP import CBR250RRs I've seen have been in aftermarket colours BUT in my experience bike fairings are only ever repainted for 2 reasons:
1 (& most likely) it's been dropped.
2. Owner aesthetics.

Stay well away from it, you can get an equally good if not better bike in Aus and without all the risk that this one carries.

Shipping from OS
Potentially wrong paint colour = dropped
Blurry disclosure of details surrounding the bike.

All adds up to too much risk for the buyer and STAY AWAY FROM IT & cease contact with the "seller" !!!

Scam - report it.

NEVER DO BUSINESS OVER E-MAIL, it's the best way to never see your money again.

Just got a reply to my email telling him i am not interested (its under his)... He is pushing so i will report him, as it seems a little dodgy.
Although i did ask for pictures of the bikes VIN (whatever its called on a bike) and he did send it, although it was on his rego and stuff not the bike itself.
Im not going to reply as well i have told him im not interested.
Thanks for the advice, the only reason i emailed is there was nothing saying he was overseas!

James,

Firstly, I will send you the bike for examination and test drive. You have 10 days to test
the bike. First of all you have to make the payment and once they checked it i will ship the
bike; i need to check if you really have the money for my bike, because i don't feel
safety to ship it without any warranty! If you don't like the bike, you will GET your
money back, (the payment is guaranteed by SafeTrader departament and you will be sending the
payment to their department NOT to me). Because you pay the money transfer commission, I
will pay and take care of all the papers, temporary plates and all that is necessary.

You will provide payment details by email ONLY to SafeTrader, this way your safety is
insured because they keep strictly your payment info and they will only provide me a
confirmation of payment, the funds will be released to me only after you buy the bike and
confirm them the sale from your email address.
The payment must be paid in cash, but I think this is not a problem, as you already wanted
to give cash money for the bike. As soon as the transfer is confirmed by SafeTrader, I will
send the bike in the same day.

If you agree to all these I will contact SafeTrader and start the process with them. I
will need your full name, shipping address. As soon as I have your confirmation and details
they will contact you with payment instructions.

I hope we will solve this as soon as possible and after all is complete maybe we will
drink a beer together when i will come back in Australia.

Waitting today from your part.
Thanks you. Sean

Thanks for your help with the compliance plate pictures, i will delete them now.

Good luck with the sale.

Eergh! Send payment details over e-mail! This guy's game!

The quicker you block his address from your e-mails the safer you will be!

Look at the structure of the guys language - he is not from Australia, thats for sure.

Also, his persistence in wanting you to send personal details even though you havent agreed to the purchase probably means that he wants to fake up some good looking documents.

You should do a bit of the old
"Payment has been made today, please send bike"

"what do you mean you haven't received the money? I paid into your nominated escrow account. Please send bike immediately"

Then start giving him fake numbers. He'll be caught up trying to trace his stolen money.

He might think the bodgy escrow have screwed him

Atleast give him a run around.

Though that being said, he's not exactly working hard for the money.
Infact, this is probably what all those "Earn $1500-$2000 a week" emails are probably all about.

Once you are 'working' for an organisation like that, they might be asking you to do the selling of the item, telling you that you are doing so on behalf of someone else.

I like the fact that he said and after all is complete maybe we will
drink a beer together when i will come back in Australia.

Do they let you drink in prison?

Explain to him that he expects you to trust him, so in good faith he should trust you and send you the bike, once it has arrived and is as promised you will send him the money.

Could be an interesting reply

its a well known scam mate escrow accounts are easy to fudge.
beside it you are going to get a 250 try a single less maintenance costs more torque and easier to ride. inline 250 fours sound like buzzing knats on there way to a snuff party...

It was a scam, i sent an email to carsales.com.au (they run the bike sales, or whatever its called) and they replied today telling me they investigated and found it to be fraudulent :D:D:D:D

Another win for the norms....

Ive had that EXACT same email twice now. Word for word witht the details of the bike changed.

I know of about 3 other people who what had it too for various other bikes. Thing is, they are normally advertising the bike considerably cheaper than others on the market. This one doesnt really seem any cheaper than any other CBR.

DEFINATELY 100% A SCAM.
