It will be manly for weekend and the od ride to work every now and agian.
I am thinking about getting one of the following all 2006 models!

YZF R6
was even playing with the idea of the GSXR 750 but thought it might be to much of a hand full!
What are your thoughts on the bikes above?

Mate the 750 is the best of both worlds when it comes to road bikes, more grunt and easier to ride than the 600's and less grunt and easier to ride than the 1000's, but in experienced hands it will take a 1000.
Have a good look at the triumph 675 tripple, good power great torque and well priced, its been the master bike pic of the smaller capacitys and has one the overall befor.

yeah will have a better look at the 750 class, just checked the insurance and it only about $100 per more for the 750 over the 600 so that no biggie, but will def have a closer look at the triumph 675.

Hey Lee,

Good to catch up with you on the weekend.
How come theres no ZXR on the list, don't you like green???
All of the 600's are very capable bikes and can deliver performance beyond the skills of most riders. It will be a pretty big learning curve (600 or 750) if you haven't ridden one before but if your sensible you should be OK. Depends how long you plan on keeping it and what sort of riding you like doing. It seems everyone ends up going bigger at some point!
Let me know if you get one, my poor ole girl is rusting away in the shed and I've got no one to ride with up here.

Cheers,

Ben

The 600's nowadays are far more bike than most people can handle and you will almost never use all the power. No real need for a 750 or bigger in my opinion. Having said that, i own a TL1000R V Twin and a DRZ400SM. Since buying the motard last year the poor TLR hardly gets ridden. The TL will more than likely end up being my track bike as too many coppers in the hills now and no fun putting around town on it.
My main reason for getting the TLR was it had the highest ride height of the super sports bikes at the time and i wanted a V Twin :):)
If i were to buy a new sportsbike now it would almost definately be a 600cc.
Cheap insurance and cheap rego :)
Good luck and be careful

Hi Ben

Yeah was a good day, and good to meet some more petrol heads in the hunter area! nothing against the green machine at all will have a closer look at them, but from what i have been reading think that the 600 will be plenty of bike for me!
looks like your a quad man as well, i got (well by bro has) a banshee great fun on the dunes, will have to go riding one day!

Lee,

If you're concerned about the GSXR750 being a handful ... I certainly would not recommend the R6 as an option. They're an awesome bike but the power to weight can be a little scarey.

They're all good bikes but if it were me, this is the order of preference I'd be looking at:

Yamaha R6
GSXR750 (if you're gunna get a 600 you may as well go to a 750)
HondaCBR600F4
SV650S

They're only my preferences and nothing against the green but I've had 2 Kwakas and they were both duds.

Smart idea ... ride them all and decide for yourself. :yup:

I'm probably showing a fair amount of bias here but if you havent considered the ZX636 (ZX6R) then you arent getting the full picture. 6 months and 6,000klm in with my 636 ownership experience and I couldnt be happier. Insanely flickable and a doddle to ride, but plain nasty if you want to give it some berries.

Other than that, I would suggest the SV as a good first road bike, something not too cranky to cut your teeth on but still fun, after a year or two then you can upgrade to something with some more nuts :)

Go the Kwaka's!!!

I've got a ZX-6RR (600cc not the 636cc) as a race bike and I love it.

If I was buying brand new but, I'd be definately getting the R6. They are magic to ride and also very easy on the eye.

the new gsr600 suzuki naked bike looks good , and you dont have to look like a boy racer when you ride , nice comfy position and you can see the motor , not hidden like many of todays "sports" bikes

Yep.......ummm I mean nope!

They are a total bucket of shit'e'. There is, after all, a reason for thier cheap sticker price.........

Iv'e ridden both the 250 and the 650 and wouldn't go near either.

As a learner or 'P' rider I could see the appeal of the 250 (cheap and fairly tame) but for any other use I won't be Hyo'singing thier praises!

Now that was a SHOCKING play on words!

Seriously now, definately try before you buy. If you are at all tall (anywhere over 6') you might want to think about a CBR 600F or a ZZR 600 or a sports tourer of some description. Almost all of the Super Motards are awesome too if you like to chuck a bike around! In a perfect world I would have a WR450F SM with a full time mechanic to service it!

I'm 6'3" tall and on any of the mid size sports bikes, I just plain look rediculous.

That is of course not to say I don't look rediculous on any other bikes either.....just less so!

Purely for the look and riding pleasure of them, my next bike will be a Super Blackbird, and soon!! $15,990 on the road is a fantastic price for such a lot of bike.........

Hi mate

they are all much of a muchness these days as you can tweak them all just like an ls1.

my sugestion would go sit on a few and see what you feel comfortable on.

For me a gsxr seemed to long a reach.

Honda seat was strange

zxr seemed heavy

R6 felt perfect so thats what i bout.

Then i took it straight to a place that set up the suspension for my weight etc and i have made adjustments as i have got use to the bike in regards to lean speed etc.

but i would look at the r6 its only dangerous if you =treat it bad. i havnt had a tank slapper at all in 7years of owning r6's and i dont have steering dampners. Just set up the suspension and that should avoid them.

I picked up my 06 CBR600RR about 2 months ago now, and couldnt be happier with it. I came off an SV650 and was a little worried about the lack of low down grunt, but the CBR is the better of the 600s in this regard, its starts moving around 6-7 grand rather than the others which do nothing till 9ish...

Mates dad has a 675, and while they're nice bikes they're too stiff for the road, he has since turned it into a track day bike. Also they're bloody skinny, i'm 6'1 and made the thing look like a kids toy.

Hi

Thanks for the help guys! I think from what most of you have been saying I need to have at least a sit on them and a test ride!
Am not the tallest person out there at 5ft11, but all bike will be different!
Think i will be taking a trip to the bike shops in Newcastle on the weekend to see what feels best!

As you are 5 11, i would be looking at the 750.

I would think that the seating position of the R6 may be a tad cramped if you ride it on week ends etc.

im 5 7 and the r6 suits me fine but my brother who is 5 9/10 finds it a bit cramped. mine is the 02 model but from what i have seen of the specs they havnt changed much.

best of luck keep us informed of how you find each of the bikes etc, will halp make the choice easier for others.

I'm 6'1 and the only bike I find uncomfortable is my mates Gixxer 600, CBR, R6 and ZX6 are all pretty good, i've done 100ks plus on them in a day and the only cramped one was the Gixxer

The LC4's are heaps of fun in the twisties and and in suburban areas but they are not much chop on the open road. The front end gets really light and fidgety at about 100 or so and caused me a few nervous moments at speed. From what I remember the big lazy single didn't like cruising, 150 no worries sounds a bit optimistic, well with the standard gearing, it would be reving its tits off.
I had a ball riding it though and the lean angles you get out of it are ridiculous. Makes you want to misbehave!!!

I did the same thing you are doing, bought a new 03 CBR600rr decided it needed a devil pipe/filter and changed the front sprocket up one tooth for more lower end. beat a lot of liter bikes off the blocks but topped out at about 230.
Great bike with no dramas, but decided I liked the twins better after i rode a 749r.
Personally i would definantly look at a low km 2nd hand749r as they hammer , sound great and handle like you wouldnt believe, all depend on taste and your wallet size, or better still get a 999 or 1098

Sorry to head slightly off topic, but did you like it better with the -1 sprocket up front? I'm thinking of doing it to mine for a little more drive out of corners/off the line and also a little better wheelstand-ability (on my extra long straight driveway of course). You dont really need to hit 270 odd anyway lol

if you put a larger front sprocket on the gearing becomes "taller" it has the same effect as removing about 2.5 teeth from the rear sprocket, therefore giving you less bottom end.

if you wanted more bottom end you should have dropped a tooth on the front

Given what he said i.e topping out at 230 odd I figured thats what he'd done, just written the wrong thing.

Do yourself a favour and get your leg over an 07 CBR600RR....... Have had mine since April and love it... :eyes:

I wasn't sure which 600 i wanted either so i checked out all of them.
How i came to my decision....
GSXR600 - Didn't fit right.
ZX6R - Feels too big to be a 600. (did like the green though)
R6 - Didn't like the look of the rear end, and was a little tall. (but did have a slipper clutch)
600RR - Perfect fit (i'm 175cm), love the underseat pipe, totally redesigned bike for 07, sounds awesome, looks unreal.

In saying all that though, enjoy looking around and test riding, i had a ball. And you'll know which one is right for you after you've ridden them.

Its not an all out sports bike but more of a city squirter and weekend occasional dip into the mountains

It's fine on the long trips mate. I often go for rides up Bells Line of Road from Windsor to Lithgow which takes a solid couple of hours and my arms are fine. Legs are good too but i don't stop so the butt gets a bit sore towards the end. I don't do a lot of k's so it might be cos i'm not used to it.

oops yep drop a tooth i think it went from 16 to a fifteen? heaps more lower end, did seem to suffer badly on the low gear downshifts as i didnt have a slipper clutch in.
but i reckon for my riding it was way more fun.

I understand what you mean by extra weight on ones arms. but then again it also depends how they are setup in regards to overall balance as the triple trees can be adjusted to change the pitch of the bike.

Also the seating position can adjust that, moving forward and back on the seat can ease the load on your arms. as does how the springs are setup, compression dampner/rebound.

If you understand that you can have a cruise setting to absorb bumps better and a twisty setting that is real firm feeling the bumps.

So that is the next step, checking what can be adjusted and then set up the bike for yourself (weight wise) as you then have to adjust rear settings if you have a pilion as the balance of the bike will change. and these changes dont take long at all. 5 min max.

so get the sales man to explain it and setup a bike for your weight etc then take it for a ride now that you have a favourite.

I saw a new bike that had diff settings left to right in the front forks so always check the suspension as one click can make a bike tip in quicker/slower
