Hi Guys
I currently own a Crewman Storm V6 and am looking at upgrading to a Diesel Captiva, currently i have a rather large skiboat weighting about 1.5tonne on the trailer and the crewman struggles to tow this, will i have the same issues with the Captiva Deisel?
I dont tow the boat often maybe 25-30 times a year and only about 200km round trip.
Whats everyones thoughts?
Cheers

Well a Captiva with 1.5 tonnes on its arse would certainly be a slug.
A v8 would be the way to go really.

don't think it would be a slug...just not a rocket and would drive very nice for the 99% of the rest of your driving..
find a dealer with a demo and tow bar and take it home overnight.. friend of mine did this with a patrol (and still bought it:rofl:)

My petrol captiva tows my 1.5 tonne trailer with ease. You wont pull the trailer off the ball but thats not the idea when towing. Handle wise it is excellent and the sls works a treat never letting the rear sag like every territory i've ever seen tow more than a 6x4.

captivalx - thats what i was looking for, thanks for the response, but your right thats not the idea when towing and having heard that and taking a diesel one for a test drive now its time to convince the boss so to speak!

I'd be suprised if the diesel didn't pull better than the petrol to be honest. My 99 rodeo turbo diesel handles towing around 2 tonnes very well. It's no rocketship, but hangs on good. The new diesels would be strong with common rail injection so i reckon it should be a good thing for towing.

IIRC the Disel captiva tow capacity is 1600Kg compared to 2000Kg for the Petrol.

Thankyou so much! You really helped me there. I have been tossing up between these two suv's for a while now, mine will be used also to tow a 1,500kg odd ski boat.
I do not have the boat yet, but a boat heavier than this weight to 1,700kg's could this be a problem for the captiva?
or as with the territory (heavy duty tow pack to 2300kg) can you get a similar tow pack for the captiva?

The low down torque of the Captiva diesel engine would quite probably do a better job than even a V8, especially an LS1 Crewman.
Crewmans are very heavy vehicles. That's the main problem. The last 6 litre ones would do the job a lot better, but using up to twice the fuel doing it, compared to the Captiva.

The towing capacity of a Toyota Prado Diesel is 2,500 Kg.
I think the Captiva is "marginal" at best and you would not be pleased at being at or near the limit

Hi All
I took the captiva and ski boat out for the first long trip on the weekend and i was MORE than pleased with the performance and fuel usage.
A trip which i would normally use 1.5 tanks of fuel to do in the V6 Crewman, i only used half a tank on the captiva diesel.
The car happily sat on 100km/hr, and whilst the take off and overtaking wasnt the greatest, using the tiptronic function helped alot.
I am more than happy with the car!
Cheers
Matt
