ive never been able to get animated ones to work for me, any particular reason for this, the one i have set now is meant to be animated, but seems to just stay still....... Can anyone help?

It seems that no matter what gif file i use, it doesnt work

Both images are quite clearly over the image size limit.

The 2nd one is 98 x 99 pixels, when you can only have 80x80 maximum. If you resize it using Ulead GIF animator or similar, it will animate fine
