Hey guys - bit of a different post for this forum, but here is a link to a video of the FireBug in action. This is a dedicated comp only single seater buggy, with 40" soft compound tyres, big axels, 2 speed powerglide, atlas transfer, and lots of other goodies.

GenIII from a VY commy, mafless tune, etc. Don't need to hit it hard to often, but as you will see a bit of power can get you out of some serious situations (and into some).

This is a still pic from that goes with the video (as a teaser):

Enjoy.

Now that is insane. Just watched the sequence where that still shot came from again, that would have puckered my buthole for sure. That looked like it was going over for sure. The suspension articulation (not sure if that is the right word) is incredible, as is the traction of those tyres.

Cheers,

Tim.

Incredible stuff, nice to see it all finished & running.
Have been keeping an eye out for it on 4x4 TV,you make rock climbing look so easy!

Cheers guys.

Articulation is the right word Timson, and the airshocks on each corner have 16" of travel a piece. The pucker factor can be pretty high, but you do get used to being in stupid positions.. well, you get 'more' used to it.

Keep an eye on 4wd TV - there is more FireBug stuff coming up.

The next comp is in Grafton (at the speedway) on the 17th November... that's about as close to QLD as we'll get this year I think.

For more info on upcoming comps, check out the website: www.TeamFireBug.com

haha it should be governed that the vehicle must obtain at least half throttle at all times.

Very impressive. One question, no window nets? I would have thought that would have been a requirement for this type of competition?

In OZ Rock we run a wrist restraint on the 'driver side' so that your arms can't come out of the cage in a severe roll (and there probably 10+ rolls in a weekend).

The rules also recommend window nets, but they are not compulsory. There are also rules governing how close the top of your helmet is to the roof (for hard rolls so you don't hit the roof when upside down).

So, 5 point harness, helmet, wrist restraints, and clearance... and suspension seats are also recommended (ie. not hard plastic or aluminium seats, but something with some 'give').

You see some nasty rolls, but it is rare that someone gets hurt and if they do its a strained wrist or something small.

Do the insane angles ever play havoc with the way your engine is running ie oil levels, fuel etc?

In his other thread he was getting oil from the PCV system running into the TB. There is a great thread about the build of the buggy which shows you the fuel tanks etc so no issues there. Its rare to be on the crazy angles long so no oil starvation issues that i can see and the rev's arent that high. Just the PCV issue id say.

loved every minute of that clip very cool... just had me in awe sitting here going "no way" about 90% of the time... wondering if dad's hilux would even hack it as the tow vehicle for this thing!!!

Nice work... I must say the days I remember as a kid with these comps are far different.. I thought it was amazing as a 10 year old and I think its still amazing as a 35 year old.... Does that mean I haven't grow up yet

Im sure it :sucks: Loads of fun to be had there thats for sure

Thanks guys.

I have never had any fueling issues, and we have been on every crazy angle imaginable! I have had some oil issues... on a very steep nose down I had some oil come back through the TB and out the air filter (will install a catch can to solve this).

On a VERY steep uphill I managed to get her 'ticking'... and then it oiled up and was enveloped in a cloud of smoke (you'll see it at the end of the video).

Oh - and I did install a rear bulge sump to help oiling on extended steep climbs.

The FireTruck was my red Jeep! She has passed on to one of my sponsors (ABT 4x4) so she'll still be around at some of the comps etc.

...by the way, dunno how the Hilux would go, but I tow the buggy to events using my VZ SV8. Tows great... I installed poly airbags inside the rear springs, and ran the air lines up into the boot. I've got 2 valves on the drivers side inside the boot on top of the wheel well.

When I'm towing I just pump the rear airbags up to 40psi and away we go! Also use the load leveling kit (part of the heavy duty tow pack).

Don't worry dude, he just don't understand!! I just stopped the 4wd'ing thing, it is the coolest to watch. Great buggy.

Some people get bored hanging around the local garage looking at each others motors. To each their own!!
