It would only be logic to think that the VU ute is lighter than the sedans although i remember reading up that they are actually around 20kgs heavier? Anyone know the weight of both?

Rego stickers dont show the correct weight of the car unless my car weighs 1400kg. Turns out the ute is heavier, both VX S2 Auto's - Kerb Mass 1597 Sedan & 1621Kg for the Ute.

Bummer! Always thought the utes were lighter.

Guess the long wheelbase platform has a bit to do with it.

I'm no expert but I believe the utes have a ladder type frame construction and that's why they're heavier.

Many people think the utes are lighter because they don't have much roof and only two doors.
However, they have that extra long tray floor and inner sidewalls instead, combined with the long Statesman wheelbase, stronger rear suspension components and other parts.

And, when we corner weighted mine, the rear wheels have more weight over them.....empty.....than the Clubby Sedan we were using as the reference.

So all the comments about no weight over the rear is rubbish. Stock VZ Thunder has more weight on rear wheels than a Clubby Sedan.

Crap rear end, but more weight ;)

I think it is true regarding them being heavier..... and for me it's worse seeing as M12 must be over 20 kg lighter than me - that's why I'm usually just a whisker behind.... unless I red light!!!!!!! So the only other option..... without stripping the ute..... is more POWER..... and it'll be here next week. Cheers,

i went over the weighbridge at the dump in the crewman and it weighed 2050kg with me and what I thought to be about 80kg of grass and palm leaves in the back so i'm thinking 1870 for a crewman ss auto.

Has anyone checked there owners manuals.???

Im sure all the older (VN,VQ,VP,VR etc) are listed under specs or towing.

I challenge forum members for a VE ute weight..?? Its not in the manual...

tuna will tell you... he's got a VE SSV ute i'm sure thats been over the weighbridge??????

i'd say the utes would be heavier... that tray floor is a huge hunk of steel... so is the sides of the tray... and the rear firewall... and the tail gates are real heavy too... add 30 - 40kg for a hard lid sometimes aswell...

listen to the bloke who has corner weighed a sedan vs a ute - surely this man has not just told us a stack of lies...
