From the photo on the main page, it looks like the truck was carrying the HRT and FPV cars. Looks like the HRT cars stayed on the truck, while the FPV cars have come off.

Smashing start to V8 Supercar series

The Bahrain round of the V8s Supercar series got off to a smashing start today when several cars were damaged when a truck transporting them to the track was involved in an accident.

After the carnage of the last round on the Gold Coast, most teams would have been hoping for a smooth start to this round.

But it is believed that truck carrying Ford Performance Racing cars of Mark Winterbottom and Steven Richards and the Holden Racing Team's cars of Mark Scaife and Todd Kelly were on the truck.

A V8 Supercars spokesman said he believed that the truck was cut off by a four-wheel drive as it neared the Bahrain International Circuit, where this week's round is being held.

It was not clear how much damage was done to the cars, but it is believed that one of the cars fell from the truck and another went into the back of the truck's cabin.

None of the cars belong to this year's championship contenders. The V8s championship has come down to a battle between Jamie Whincup (501), Garth Tander (492), Craig Lowndes (473) and Rick Kelly (466).

I bet Coldbum and Richo are pissed........... looks like their cars copped the most damage, but I'm sure they are fixable, they can repair a much worse damaged car than this overnight.

Skaife and Kelly's cars look pretty much unscathed

....and another went into the back of the truck's cabin.

Obviously a quailty strapping job .... wonder if it's the same delivery company that recently delivered a Veyron?

yeah I read the same they think that skaifes car substained the most damage and if the damage is extensive enough(damage to rollcage) then he may not be able to race.

Wonder who foots the bill for that one??????

Amateurs at the least.
truck driver should of paid more attention with such a hefty amount of $$$$ on board.

thats gunna be costly for the transport mob if they are damaged.

i bet FPR HRT have a few "choice" words to say about this one.

It is believed FPR is facing a bill of about $25,000 to get the cars ready for the first practise session tomorrow (Thursday).

Winterbottom, who was stripped of a pole position last round at the Gold Coast because of a technical breach with this car, said he could not believe the team's run of recent bad luck.

"I don't know what can you do. I don't think they can do anymore damage to it than we can do (on a track) so I think we'll fix it and it'll be okay but it's just hard for the guys they've got to go to work before we even start," Winterbottom said.

"It's not the way you want to start a weekend but you've got to deal with it and fix it.

"When they said four cars have been damaged I knew that the way our luck's been going it would be ours and it was, so it's just a bad run we're having. The problem with these rounds is that you don't bring many spares so it goes into your pool of spares before you even start which is probably the biggest down side.

"It's frustrating and it's pretty annoying but there's nothing you can do, Being frustrated or whatever is not going to fix it. We rock up tomorrow and the car will be fixed so for me it's not really a big issue but for the guys (mechanics) I'm sure their pretty frustrated."

Skaife also had to take a pragmatic approach with his car having been repaired after substantial damage last round.

"This is not the way you want to start a weekend, repairing a car, especially after my team has worked its bum off getting it ready after Indy," Skaife said.

The Desert 400 in Bahrain got off to a dramatic start for Ford Performance Racing (FPR) today, when the transporter carrying both FPR Falcons was involved in a road accident while taking the cars from the airport to the Bahrain International Circuit.

Despite initial reports that exaggerated the damage suffered by both FPR Falcons, the damage was purely panel related and cosmetic, with no mechanical damage whatsoever.

The accident took place at approximately 9:00am on the main multi-laned Bahrain Highway, when a motorist made a sudden U-Turn in front of the transporter carrying the FPR Falcons, forcing a brake lock and loss of control that saw both FPR Falcons fall to the left side of the truck, still strapped in their air frieght cradle.

The team was quick to send a number of crew members (who were waiting for the arrival of the cars at the circuit), to oversee and instruct the local emergency teams on the delicate process of re-loading of both cars onto another transporter.

This was successfully done with the use of a mobile crane which saw the main Bahrain Highway blocked to all traffic for more than one hour.

The same transporter carrying the FPR Falcons was also carrying the two HRT V8 Supercars, with Mark Skaife's car suffering the most damage of all the cars in the impact.

Both FPR Falcons are now in perfect condition and await the start of practice for the Desert 400 which starts today (Thursday) at 9:15pm EST (1:15pm local time). The Seven Network will broadcast all of the action from the Middle East, check local guides for more information.

Updates on FPR's progress in Bahrain, where the Prodrive team is defending its Desert 400 Champion status, will appear on this website throughout the event.
