First off, this a very nice forum and I wish we could get your cars here in Canada. The GTO never got here, but I hear the Pontiac G8 will. It will be my next daily driver when it does.

I am building a new motor. It will have a Harrop Hurricane 55mm intake on it.

These are the other specs for the new 455 ci motor.

-LS7 block, Darton MID wet sleeves bored to 4.190
-Callies CompStar 4.125 stroke
-Callies CompStar 6.125 H beam rods
-Wiseco Pistons, coated
-AllPro heads, 2.100 intake, 1.60 exhaust
-Jesel J2k Mohawk rockers
-Morel Hyd. lifters
-1 7/8 Kooks headers

My goals are:
-emissions friendly through cats
-very mild idle
-570+rwhp, my 412 made 506rwhp through cats.
-streetable car with all the factory gauges, cruise control, AC, Stereo

The car is a 1999 Firebird Formula WS6.

I have picked out lots of the mechanical parts, but now I have to start deciding some of the most import parts. What kind of cam does a Harrrop intake like? I currently have a Comp Cams custom ground 242/250 .610 .614 114 LSA, it has +4 degrees advance ground in. This was in my 412 ci LS2 has been a great cam for the FAST 90. Will this work in my new motor, or would I be best to order up a new custom cam? Next tuning, in North America there are only a few people to ever work with one of these. What is the best tuning approach for a set up like this, HP Tuners, EFI Live or Big Stuff 3.

Big Stuff I am unsure if it can used in a street car, but it usually will make more power. EFI live and HP Tuners will have no trouble with the street manners, but maybe more difficult to tune with.

Thank you in advance for any help.

We really have not yet found the limit with these manifolds.
It seems "bigger is better" ... Although I am contractually bound by a NDA with a customer, (not allowed to disclose too many details), you are heading in the right direction with the cam. You can get well into the 260's and down to sub 110LSA & still have an almost-streetable (flame-throwing) beast. However, it will certainly not be emissions or cruise-control friendly!:eyes:

Compression ratio?
Hydraulic lifters may be any issue if you go much bigger than you already have.

I have confidence that HPTuner will be the tool of choice, however the race applications I know of are primarily using Motec.

:)

Thank you for the input.

The compression will be 11.2:1 for 94 octane.

HP Tuners? I will have to track down some one local that has some good experience with Speed Density tuning. Most of them want to use a MAF.

The Morel lifters are supposed to be good to .650 lift. I was thinking of increasing the cam just a little, but I will start with this one and see how it goes.

Thank you again Ken.

By the way I did get a PM with some information and suggestions, thank you.

I am not ignoring you, but I do not have the privilage to reply to it in the form of a PM.

I also can not post my email. So I can only communicate with you through the forum threads.

Thanks

Dont forget Efilive with the Throttle position vs Rpm setup that doesnt rely on engine vacuum. I would reckon that combo would be a perfect candidate for that system. Or setup as part throt vs rpm and part vac vs rpm. it very flexible.
And no I'm not an efilive rep, just a user.

I do know a couple people locally who have switched and been quite happy with it, but still no experience with Speed Density.

So you think it may work as an advantage over the real time programing of the HP Tuners?

My current set up was done originally with LS1 Edit, and is currently done with HPT. I was happy with both, but there was a MAF in there to correct things missed.

I really do appreciate the input from the people that have seen alot more of these intakes than here in North America. I believe there are only 3-5 of them here and I think only 1 or 2 are even on a car that is up and running here.

I am still considering Big Stuff 3, it would be similar to Motec, it seems to be used on all the big turbo stuff here. It has a stand alone pcm and harness but is supposed to be able to be piggy backed to the factory one too.

You can google it since I can not provide a link.

I take it since there has been no response that you have not seen Big Stuff 3 over here?

We use this manifold on a gts that we race (sergens GTS) we have tried several cams ( 250+@50 with 650+ lift ) and idle has never been a issue. they work great. the last time the car was on the dyno it was a 383 combo it made 470hp at the tyres through a 5500 converter on 98ulp (before nos)
