Hi Guys,

Just put new rotors and pads on all round 2 weeks ago. DBA 4000 6 x 6 slotted rotors front and rear and Bendix ultimate pads front and rear. Soon as they heat up, any light braking causes squeel. Is that normal? Anyone else had similar issue with this setup?

Much appreciated!

I think depending on the type of pads some squeak a bit, some cause lots of brake dust, some stop better than others etc. So basically i'd say thats probably normal for that particular type of pad. Have you spoken to the place you brought them and asked them what they think? Or maybe the pads and rotors aren't friends just yet and will take a little bit of time to get used to each others company.

Not uncommon at all. :)

Ferodo TS2000 did the same thing with mine. I did a circuit day and cycled some SERIOUS heat through the pads and they haven't squealed since.

Some VERY hard repeated stops might be a way to try and eliminate the squeal.

Also be prepared to have some serious brake dust on your wheels :banghead:

Thanks guys for the comments, i'll give em some more time to bed in and hopefully it will go away. Yeah tell me about it, have noticed they do create a bit more dust than previous pads, but at least I know that if I need to pull up in a hurry these things are going to stop me a lot better than the stockies that were on there before - so a small price to pay for piece of mind.

Just take your car out somewhere nice and quiet and stand it on its nose a couple of times from high speed, that should sort it.

Is this true? Would this be the same for my VZ?

Mine make sweaky noises only on light to medium pressure. When i apply some decent pressure the noises disappear and they are quite as.

What should I do?

Heat cycles allways help to remove squeal.

My VT Wagon was a biatch for Squeal. Heat cycles helped. Replacing the entire suspension cured it. ALot of squeal on light application can be problems with bearings or bent rortaing parts.

Many of us have had problems with Bendix Ultimates squealing their tits off in light braking. I couldn't stop them making noise when I had harrops in my SS. EBC Redstuff did sort out the squeal but more dust which was a small price to pay for stopping the ear-piercing screeching! I think the Ultimates are simply predisposed to squeal. Some people have had good experiences with them but if you search around the forum you'll find that it is not uncommon to have them make lots of noise.

I fitted a new set of stock rotors front and rear (same price as getting the old ones machined) and had Bendix ultimates fitted all round. Yep, you guessed it, squeal on light pedal pressure! That's not the most annoying part. It's the groaning you get as you gently release the brake pedal from standstill! oh' and more dust than an afghans boot........:cussing:

I had these pads my previous car, and got rid of them. The stopping power was awesome however the dust was ridiculous and they wore through the stock discs very quickly.

Went back to OEM ones after that with hardly any dust, from memory the old OEM ones still had asbestos in them, but I could be wrong. I'm sure someone will correct me.

We optioned our VZ GTO with AP 6 spots--ferodo ds2500 pads. So, in view of "issues" of which I became aware after becoming a member of this forum, I rang Competition Friction in Canberra & asked how to bed in the pads. I think it was Dave (good bloke) who said "get on to the Freeway, & give them 10 quick hard stops from 100kph, down to 10kph, BUT DON'T STOP, AND GET EM SMOKN' IF YOU CAN-THEY'LL LOVE THAT!. So that's what I did, sinse when I've never had a problem--YET!--except for HEAPS of brake dust.

I've had squeeling brakes since I bought my Senator with the Harrop 4 spots all round. New pads did nothing to stop it and it got progressively worse as they'd heat up. Just took it out then down a nice long quiet backroad and hammered it, gaining speed and then jumping brakes. Well firstly the Harrops sure work a treat, sucking my face off etc. Secondly on the drive back all squeeling had stopped! We'll see how long it lasts but hopefully it's eliminated, gave them a hiding, could smell them working overtime. I've also been told that braking hard whilst reversing at speed can help? Any info on that one?

Sounds like you should just follow the break-in procedure - most pads have them in the instructions.

I recently fitted Harrop 4 spots which came with Ultimates. They squeeled badly on light low speed work as you described. I tried endlessly to bed the pads in, deglazed the pads and discs, chamfered the pads and fitted anti-squeel goop to the backs of the pads. Nothing made a difference for any more than a few light stops before it returned. In the end I changed the pads for Bendix Heavy Duty pads and the problem disappeared. The dust is much better too.

Ha ha I like that well put .Exactly what I did with mine to sought it out and it worked. Felt like I was on the gravatron at the local show:spew: but at the same time was impressed how quik she pulled up from 100kmph in the dry.
I think it may have warped my disks though gets a wobble up under brakes. :vpo:

I did that with my Harrops and Bendix Ultimates and the pads were cracked when they came out! I cannot recommend Ultimates at all.

Maybe its just the VZ's mate but mine also groan from the rear sometimes if i slightly let go of the brake pedal, though if i let go quicky and touch the go pedal its fine

yeah, it's only when you're slowly releasing the pedal that it groans. quickly releasing the pedal doesn't create anything annoying!
