Was at the drags in the US the other day and spotted a 6L GTO running 12.5 in the quarter. Was curious and went to talk to the guy and see what he had done to run mid 12's.
Stock tune and unopened engine. Cold air setup with larger duct and K&N filter. Nitto street radials on the back (slicks with some grooves to be street legal). It was an automatic. He said the Nittos made a big difference. No wheel spin with the TC off.
His personal best was 12.2 on a really freak air day...still and cold. He ran in the brackets and won a lot. Made good winnings.
Does this seem realistic? 6L GTO running mid 12's unopened, untuned, stock exhaust?
Cheers.

If his tyres were so good then what were his 60ft times?

Sorry, thats bullshit. Tell him to tug using the other hand.
If it dont sound cammed, then he must be stalled at least. Definately tuned if NA. Did you check for a hidden sniper shot of NOS?
i have to agree, surely a stocker couldnt get the mph to support such a quick ET?

might be BS but who is to say.
The US have been getting some freak track conditions this year, a lot of records have been beaten. Most notably the US finally taking the Top Doorslammer quieckest ET back from Zap.
Anyways, maybe he bought the car as is with no knowledge of previous mods or maybe it had diff gears or stall. Good work to him though whatever the case

Id say that is the most likely scenario.

Thats still very quick for what would have to be a very mildly modified car for it to be mistaken as a stocker.

I know a few people that love telling people there car is stock when its clearly not... :1peek:
Just the other week, exactly the same time 12.5, but a Maloo... He told his mate who is a mechanic over the road from my work a very similar story, anyway, he was telling me about his mates car that ran 12.5 stock bla bla bla, and i explained that it was total BS, anyway, after a while, he call's his mate and starts asking questions, his mate just said straight out he was stirring him up... And he took it hook line and sinker... It's amazing how many people like to talk BS ;)

Speaking of BS,
my brother got a msg from a mate claiming to have run 10.8 or something on street tires.
The car is a 355 VR.
I'll believe it when i see it. :bs:

That is hard to beleave. There is a husband wife team here that has an A4 05 GTO with a 2800 stall, tune, LT's, drop in K&N filter, street radials and maybe gears. Trapped at 12.2 @107mph with a 1.69 60ft. The quickest I heard of on a near stock car was 12.8's.

The GTO I saw had a K&N & street radials, and he was working hard on the intake/engine with water to keep it cool. He normally uses dry ice. Maybe it is the husband/wife team. Are they in MD? It was an 05 A4 (Feb 05 Man Date). A light metallic blue color. Or maybe a metallic grey. Cant quite recall.
This link below points to a GTO that ran @ Cecil County MD 12.82 @ 110. Only mod was a shifter (?)....nothing else.

So maybe with really dense air (Density Altitude was 1350' below MSL when the A4 GTO purportedly ran 12.2) they have been getting on the east coast this year, the Nitto Drag Radials, larger intake duct and K&N filter...it is possible. When I saw it run 12.5, it was very cool (53F?) and quite breezy...racing into a breeze...
Air density can be a big factor as some of the die hard racers on here know. One day back 27 or 28 years ago, street racing at AIR one Saturday nite, the breeze dropped, it became dead still, clear night, the air layer at ground level cooled by several degrees, the DA obviously went up just a tad, and most racers picked up 3 to 5 tenths in the finals...just like that.
Interesting.....
