*EDIT* BUILDING A SUPERCHARGED IRS OUTLAW see post 28 for details

And here begins the path to a 9 second street car. With drive train sorted ideas are flowing in which would be the best engine combo for a streetable9 seconds!

Frank and Mick have been talking about the idea for a couple of years and with the grand opening of one of their other companies THE AUSTRALIAN LPG WAREHOUSE they now have a little more time to get back into the drag racing scene again.

With the proven success and extened development of APS FRANKSTON'S stomping 408 ci stroker, running adjoined to a whipple 3.3 litre charger, it seems that is the easy option, BUT. That combination is likely to be attached to another project, something a little more extreme! Have news to tell in coming weeks of this... Stay tuned.

The car is currently with John and Tony @ A+J PAINT AND PANELS being fixed and prepped for the push back across the road to APS FRANKSTON where the performance guru Pete weaves his magic on the tubs widening them as much as possible to suit IRS. Here follows a few photo's of the shells used one a written off VX SS and the other a VT rolling shell. Some of John and Tonys work can be seen on Jays Monaro in his thread.

TOP NOTCH BOYS :headbang:

More photo's and updates as the car progresses... Cheers Nathan

So the project has gone a little southern of what you guys would expect a street car to look like! This is purely for ease of use and we all know what happens in a crash at upwards of 150 mph SO, we have to run to some of drag racings safety guide lines which means a roll cage and parachute etc... Which means unfortunately its really not a real street car! And probably never will be. BUT, it is a package that is sold by us and if you have the desire to drive your car to the track run a nine and then drive it home it can be done.

This car is the platform!

In fact i think you will find most of what has gone into this car is driving the dusty streets of the Northern Territory in a car we built for a customer Scott.

Enough is enough! Its turned to shite im afraid and the street car attachment to the heading of this thread is now a sham! To hell with the street car! Its anything but, now! So We have changed the tune and its now a supercharged outlaw. Mick @ Aps frankston is going in tommorow to write the tune for the bohemeth and with some luck monday we will be running it up for some power numbers. Most of the mechanical was completed today just some running of fuel lines and trivial crud to complete then comes hanging the panels. Took some photos today will have more in the coming days..... After spending the most part of the weekend on the car its finally coming to life. Today Panels were hung, interior fitted, crank breather can and rad overflow fitted along with the battery relocation and isolator switch.

Mick spent the morning going over the tune file in readyness for a run on the rollers this week.. All going well the VX should be ready for the test and tune @ Heathcote Park Raceway this coming sunday... Its going to be a pretty heavy week but the forcast is some good numbers so were all in it till stumps..

9.99 SECOND PASS!

We turned up APS Frankston @ 7am ready to load the cars on the truck and trailers and make the move to heathcote. We arrived around 12pm got the cars scruteneered and fine tuned a few small things.

Dry ice was packed into the intercooler of the VX SS and a last minute flash in of the race tune was sorted. Rob (the driver) ran a nice burn cranking the tyres up to temp. The noise this thing produced caught everyone standing near by off guard.

The VX took off and ran a 10.50 @ 135mph first pass! The next was a 10.05 at 136mph. The third pass was the one we were all waiting for. Rob now sorted and confident with the car he gave it stink out of the 60 foot running 108 mph half track and eventually a total of 138mph to a 9.99 second ET!

With only three runs under of the belt the VX SS, it is fast proving its potential for low 9 second pass and with a diff gear change maybe 8s! All in good fun and by the smiles yesterday there is bucket load more to come. :eyes:

Will post some footage up as it comes to hand.. Cheers Nathan

Im partialy deaf today because of it! I had some issues with engine breathing on the VY SS. Frank told me it would! I thought id just run it and see. It pumped the dip stick out 3/4 track and splurged oil all over the windscreen, turbo and manifolds causing a fire. I managed to pull up next to the bloke at the end of the track ( who seriously looks like Ned Kelly ) and grabbed one of his extingushers to put it out. No serious damage. After cleaning it up i had to leave it run for a long time to slowly smoke all the oil off the the heat wrap on the manifolds by that time Frank had finnished running his ute so i borrowed his engine breather and only got 1 last run in before the track closed! GUTTD! Its great it wasnt the LS1 NATS though!!! The beauty of a test and tune. Will you be running at the NATS this year?

We couldnt get a proper power read out because it had my re55's on the back. Kept shredding. The trans is a glide with 8 grand of gear in it built by Dave @ RVO AUTOMATICS. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

With full interior it ran a pb of 9.94 at 138 mph. Without having the time to set up the suspention we let it go without mods and it still ran a best of 1.52 60 foot.

Frank and Mick have decided to change the suspention stance and torque converter for an improvement on e.t the next outing. All in all the ls1 NATs was a great weekend we all had fun and are looking forward to the next mission at Heathcote park...

An update on how the VX is travelling......The guys decided to load the car and head to Heathcote for the Ford Forums meet on Friday. I rang Frank and asked if we were on for the trip up on friday and he said 'for sure'... Well that was the last i heard because they all jumped in there cars and bailed without me!

FRANK YOUR A BUNSEN MATE!!!!!!! Na jokes.....

The VX full interior with only a ride height change was in fine form. The 60 foot mark was proof the small changes made were a success with 1.49 second launch. The MPH was through the roof at 150!! And the e/t was improved with a 9.86 being the best for the night.. Unfortunatly the torque converter was not up to the task of a burnout started on the grates with virtually no water and decided to lunch itself ending the nights racing for the VX.

Next time out the guys are talking dropping the stall to a lower rpm which will give the car more torque to use out of the stage.

All in all a good night was had and still running the full interior turned a few heads and got a few of the guys jawing as to what the VX would run stripped. But thats not on the cards at least for a while because its the only thing that will keep this thread going as it is still a full weight car thus retaining some of the heading of this thread.

Although its no where near a street car it does have a full chassis and a full interior so i reckon it deserves the wrap. :)

Nice work fellas.

Athough this is posted up in drag racing i thought id chuck it up here for anyone subscribed to this thread....

Well it was all systems go for us down in Frankston sorting the VX for another run on the black top but this time @ CalderPark..

Getting scruteneering sorted we headed to the in field. When driving past the track it noticably well prepared with a shiney glaze refecting light accompanied with a sweet smell to the air. TRACK BITE! After the last few weeks a couple of changes have been made to the VX SS with front suspention modded and stall converter replaced. These both proved to be a success with Rob piloting the car to a first and best of 9.70 at 149mph! The car hooked up better than ever leaving the stage with a solid stance and sounding crisp gobbling the bloody freezing Calder night air. The mph was down due to a speed trap malfunction but after a few calculations using The link below the car was actually running 149 mph ( 239 kph ).

Congrats Boys all time invested in the car is paying off at rapid rate of knots!

Hi Scott, Mick is upping the boost and will be fitting a trans brake for the next visit the the track.. He said it will have around 16 psi adding to the already ridiculous amounts of torque! Looking forward to the next visit to the track! Will let you know anything as it comes to hand.... Cheers Nathan

G'day mate, top machine you have there, just curious as to who you got your 1000hp cv's and axles through and were they a bolt-on affair or did your hubs have to be modified.
Cheers.

Gday Frank here at APS Frankston can sort a set for you no problems. They are a bolt in unit that we sort from the USA. Good for over 1000 ponies! Give him a buzz on 97838300 and tell him you spoke with me here on the forums for a members discount... Cheers Naith

Just an update on the progress of the VX SS for the LS1 Nats. After stripping the engine for a check over the boys have decided while appart to upgrade to an LSX block with 6 bolt warhawk alloy heads in the pursuit for more power. So the block will be bored out to 418 ci with a 408 extreme polished crank to hang the rods and new slugs on. The 3.3 litre whipple will be spinning at around 20 psi with a 60 shot of gas to cool the intake charge. The power glide has been checked over and the car stripped of its interior to lighten the load. 15psi Procharged, this setup has made 900rwhp in the states!
